 This week we see a firmware update from Garmin for the Vector 3 pedals which addresses a number of really interesting side case issues that you may or may not have come across. So the Vector 3s have been out for around two years now, they had a very troubled start to life, especially here in the Llama lab. My original set have been replaced and since then, well, the return set sat on the shelf for a while because I had another set of power pedals I was using. Since then though I've done things such as updated the batteries for the single battery, more on that in a moment, and I've been testing them against other power meters and smart trainers

68 Beta I was using resolved all the issues I was encountering, but I also used 3.8 for this outdoor ride the other day. I'm just drilling down into the data here for a hill climb, no drops, everything looks pretty clean, that was with an Element Roam, no problems at all there, and the left right data looks pretty good. Cadence wise, that is, well it looks like a dog's breakfast but that's what happens with cadence data, so any of the steady state stuff, happy days, that's looking pretty good for me

 Standard Llama lab test with the Vector 3s up against another power meter. You can see here in my steady state efforts there, something's going strange there. I had a theory about what that might be, I replicated that at the end of the ride and I could make it occur again. So a quick email over to Garmin about this, they sent back the details of the beta firmware for the Vector 3 pedals which was 3

 Fix right sensor missing error appearing during a coast, you may have come across this if you're a Garmin user with the Garmin Vector 3's. And there's a number of other power issues and spike issues and things fixed there and also improved pedal wake-up detection, that's a good thing, and improved communication with Garmin Connect Mobile. That has been troublesome lately with iOS 13, but give it permissions, it should be good to go and even better with that fix installed. Jumping over to the Garmin forums where the true nerds hang out and we can see here a little bit more accurate information of how to get this firmware installed

Garmin Vector 3 Power Meter Firmware Update 3.80 // Lots of Fixes!

 I've called it problem avoidance today We go through my experience of my replacement Vector 3 Power Meter pedals Firstly a quick recap of the Garmin Vector 3 pedals if you're not familiar with these So they're the third generation power meter from Garmin. So everything should be sorted by now No external pods or external batteries required. Easy install and easy bike swap No torque wrench required just a 15mm wrench or spanner. We'll get them on

 That's that's happy. I'm okay with that and Then so this is the third hard sprint and then to the overs and unders We ignore the little wonkiness there. That's me sort of getting a bit sloppy on the pedals after a hard sprint Fine looking good after that So numbers wise they're looking pretty good and I put those offsets after the sprints down to just settling the pedals down because you Saw after the third sprint everything was happy days a quick wrap up of the maximums across all three llama lab tests here and all Power meters that I had on the bike. So the first llama lab test here was 1165 max 1163 1133 with the three power meters I had that's looking pretty damn good llama lab test number two Maximums 1096 versus 1106 so within 10 watts there of the two That's really really good and the final llama lab test 1177 versus 1162 So very very consistent numbers in the sprints for maximum power between the Neo and the Vector 3s That's pretty cool Okay, jumping over to the outside ride with the Vector 3s up against the stages left right as mentioned the right hand side of my Stages reads a little low so I expect the numbers from the stages to be just a little bit lower than the Vector 3s That would be consistent with what I'm seeing indoors across multiple tests and here we go Overall 195 versus 199 the Vector 3s being four watts higher there happy days

 It's been 12 months since I've ordered my Garmin Vector 3 Power Meter pedals I have the replacement pair. These have been sitting on the shelf for six months.  Well, it's all documented here on YouTube I've spent a week or more a while ago trying to get these things to work and I did a six month follow It just wasn't happy days at all So the first pair that I had were a little troublesome to say the least the power numbers that I had coming from them Were not in line or consistent with other known good power sources and I tested multiple power sources So I still wasn't happy with the numbers I was seeing from my original set of Vector 3s I then encountered the same issue as a number of other people with the battery doors Batteries moving around causing spikes and dropouts Garmin did supply a new set of battery doors, which solved that problem No spikes or dropouts, but I was still having some issues with the power readings I put out some known calibrated weights and did the static weight test on both pedals and that indicated Something was up with the pedals I wasn't getting the same reading from both sides so taking myself out of the picture Taking any other power meter out of the picture and just doing basic physics on the power meter pedals and they were different So Garmin took them back and supplied me with this new set So these replacement units have been sitting on the shelf for the last six months. I called it problem avoidance I've been using my Asioma Duos, the P1s. It's been happy days with those I tried to return those for a full refund But they wouldn't take them back because they are a return set from Garmin or a replacement set It got all too tricky So I kept them on the shelf. This week Ray has put out his DC Raymakers Power meter by his guy for 2018 and gave the Vector 3s a pretty good wrap because his experience has been pretty good I thought it was time to put these on the bike Take them out for a ride I'll take them in for a ride and get some data as well and see if my experience was any better with these replacement sets Look, I won't take you through the full unboxing and installation process It was the same as last time but do note these pedals are pretty stiff out of the box You can screw them onto the crank pretty much holding the pedal body and then just locking them down with a 15mm wrench The pairing process was a lot easier

Garmin Vector 3 Power Meter - Revisited // 12 Month Update

36v, respectively for the stock LR44s, with no spares included. I will be returning this item and going forward with a second set of a competitors pedals I have been using that cost $200 USD less per pair. I strongly suggest that you do NOT purchase these from Amazon unless they are being provided by 'Garmin' - go to your LBS and get a pair that you can confirm are new. There is no sense in dropping a $1000 on used pedals, and having to replace batteries in them immediately

80 of the firmware. Confirmed that the battery holder is the newer version, and still after less than two weeks of use I'm starting to see power drops during my rides. Attaching a screenshot of one of them where I got over 20 drops in less than 30 minutes.  I'm returning them and looking for alternatives

 Still, the power drop outs/disconnects continue. It seems this is a design defect where the batteries still jiggle inside the pedal and causes power disconnects, especially from the right-to-left pedal Bluetooth bridge. You can solve this by permanently disabling the right pedal and use the left one on ANT+ only, but then you just paid $999 for a very heavy paperweight.  Garmin refused to give me a refund, even after the second pair of warranty pedals kept disconnecting

I've had two pairs of Garmin Vector 3 (left and right power meters). I've tried all the service bulletins, including adding baby oil to the battery contacts every time I change them ..

 You can solve this by permanently disabling the right pedal and use the left one on ANT+ only, but then you just paid $999 for a very heavy paperweight.  Garmin refused to give me a refund, even after the second pair of warranty pedals kept disconnecting.  I'd say no to recommending this.

 It comes with the same cleats so they're cross compatible. The same set of shoe spacers and then I can also see here you've got the other options to make it fit different profiles of shoes so that's all the same also. All the bolts you need to attach the cleats to your shoes. A few more spacers here to change the stack height and then you've got a few shims here to change your cue factor which is basically the distance from your pedal to the bottom bracket vaguely and then in these various little bags you've got the charger so you can see that this runs off a normal USB and then that's a splitter cable that goes to two USB C's that then plug into these little units at the back here which then obviously connect to the pedal and you can just see here you've got these obvious metal contacts that just slide into place like that and then that's going to charge away and you can do both pedals at the same time so a nice easy click charge system with one USB cable

 Nice and simple and as always a couple of product information booklets in there too. So let's get into the nitty gritty of the features so most importantly they are accurate between plus or minus one percent so that is up there with the best power pedals out there. In fact power systems out there as a whole so these are going to be about as accurate as you can measure your power out there on the bike and they're going to come in both single and dual sided power options so the single sided is just going to read your left leg's power and it's going to read that within that one percent accuracy but then just double that data so it's still really good for training but it's not going to give you that ultimate left right power so if you're recovering from a particular leg injury or you need to get that specific data to improve your pedal stroke then the dual sided is the best way to go but obviously the caveat to that is that the dual sided is more expensive so that comes in at £850 and the single sided comes in at £550 so it's quite a big difference in price there but I guess fundamentally quite a big difference in data if you want that accuracy and we'll talk about how these prices sit against other pedal power systems and general power systems a little bit later on. So about 380 grams for the full set up with nothing else needed so when you're comparing them to something like the Garmin rally pedals that come in at about 326 grams without cleats it's looking like a really similar weight set up so nothing to really worry about there even for the weight weenies

Wahoo PowrLink Zero Review // Best Power Pedal in 2022?

 Grabbing this data through here. What's this? We have 22 minutes 198.4 to 200 again some start stops in there which will affect the numbers just a little bit all looking really really good there What I'm looking for there is just a consistent separation that I see with some other meters If you're playing a long game, you know exactly what I'm talking about and what I've seen with other comparative tests. That's looking good there We'll jump into this section here through the forest 167, 167 again some stop starts a few little short bits here and there But again to be expected with two different types of power meters But overall when I'm looking down in the head unit, there was no major consistent separation Indicating any problems

 I've been using these for the last 12 months. I've done a lot of writing on these So yes, today's review is a long-term review on launch day I can confirm the delay in release of these pedals wasn't due to any technical issue with the pedals themselves It was simply supply chain. The data from these pedals both indoors and out has been pretty much spot-on from the get-go I can trust them to compare other power meters to both indoors and out And I've already done this in a number of reviews here on the GP Alama channel. So that's the summary Let's get straight into the details Pulling up Wahoo's technical specifications of these pedals There's both a dual sided and a single sided version

Wahoo PowrLINK Speedplay Power Meter Pedals: Details // Long-Term Review

 But let's talk about the other big product from Wahoo and that is the all-new Speedplay Power Meter pedals, the Powerlink Zero. So in this video, I'll talk about what you get in the box, the specs, how to install them, and answer the most important question, are they as accurate as Wahoo claims? If you are not familiar with the Speedplay pedals, these are lollipop-shaped pedals. They offer more adjustability and lower stack height. They are also dual-sided, so you can clip in on either side of the pedals

 The new smart bike started to measure a tiny bit higher towards the last couple of intervals, but overall, they were within three watts of each other. Finally, let's take a look at this 15 by one-minute workout I did. Again, the power was almost exact between the Wahoo Kickr 5 and Powerlink pedals during each one-minute interval. Looking at all 15 intervals here, the difference in power between the two was less than 1%

 All three power meters were very close. The Powerlink averaged three watts higher than the Kickr, which is expected from a pedal-based power meter. On the sprint section, the Wahoo Kickr overshot by a little bit here, but the Powerlink was moving along with my crank-based power meter, so I'm trusting the crank-based and Powerlink here. In the first sprint, the Powerlink responded faster than my crank-based power meter, but on the second one, the Powerlink and crank-based were almost exactly moving together

 Again, the power was almost exact between the Wahoo Kickr 5 and Powerlink pedals during each one-minute interval. Looking at all 15 intervals here, the difference in power between the two was less than 1%. So overall, the pedals worked well, and I'm looking forward to taking them outside and test them out further once the weather get a little bit warmer here. The Powerlink also measure and broadcast cadence, and that was also spot on

Wahoo POWRLINK ZERO Cycling Power Meter Review | How to Install | Accuracy Test

 But ultimately, you know, I do think that the Wahoo Powerlink Zeros are providing good, accurate power data, you know, if they're properly calibrated and they're connected and communicating correctly. But at a thousand dollars, it is a very expensive product for a dual sided power meter. Comparing it to other power meters on the market, it's one hundred dollars less than the Garmin Rally pedals. So is it reasonable? You know, I think so

 Which one is correct? You know, I don't know for sure. But but I've always thought that my cork has always been, you know, very generous with the watts. And I would say that's definitely just how I like it. I will take all the help that I can get

 The power meter will work with, you know, any cycling head unit or bike computer that accepts power. It transmits data, you know, over Bluetooth and ANT+. I was able to connect these power meters to two Wahoo units, a Hammerhead Karoo, a couple of Garmin computers, two Brighton bike computers, as well as my iPhone and an iPad via the Bluetooth option. And these pedals will transmit both power as well as cadence information to those head units
