I really can't see a reason not to go with the Quaderno gen-2, both options you mentioned are outdated, unless you only want to use it strictly as a PDF reader and you do not intend to write on it.

If you’re going to be reading two column academic papers, you’ll probably want an A4 size device. In that space, if you’re looking for a current gen device that’s not app-focused, there’s really only the Quaderno Gen 2 and the mooInk Pro. The latter can handle epub as well as PDF but it’s more expensive; I’d just get a Quaderno Gen 2 and use Calibre to convert your epubs to PDF.

I read a lot of academic papers (PDFs) and I am sick of having to print them all out. I also enjoy reading normal books (PDFs ans EPUBs). All I would want in a tablet is to be able to read these and annotate on them. I don’t want any extra apps or videos or whatnot, because I don’t want to get distracted. I’ve heard some people say there are issues with pdfs on these readers, so I am asking for suggestions. Any thoughts?

<p>ETA: I’m not sure frankly what a reasonable price on these are, but my budget isn’t great. Ideally less than 300 but maybe 4-5 if it was a great product. Would also try and buy used so could maybe get a bit higher MSRP</p>

Has a really smooth finish to it, feels fancy writing on it with a nice pen (G2 pilots for me). I used this in place of planner when I was in school  Product is 10/10 but bonus points for how it affects how you feel. Made me feel more put together and professional, has a luxurious appeal to it at an affordable price

My favorite notebooks

 The size is perfectly between an A4 and A5 so you get a bit more room to write on the backside of the page before your hand starts resting on the spirals, which was my primary issue with A4-sized notebooks. As previously mentioned, the paper is very FP-friendly, but be aware that some particularly wet inks may take an extra bit to dry.
