Fujifilm X-T2 vs Nikon D3500

The X-T2 is one of the best APS-C format digital cameras for shooting at the high sensitivities you'll use in dim lighting.

it sucked lol. Using a D3500 with a nikon 17-55 2.8 lens. I couldnt auto-focus on anything because it was so dark, and the lens wasnt letting me manually focus! I switched it to M instead of MA on the lens but when I was spinning the dial it wasn't focusing, I was trying to make it infinty focus

I think the better deal is to buy an X-T2 body plus the 35mm f/2 XF WR lens. You end up with a very portable powerhouse of a camera that is all I have needed to get outstanding variety and quality of images on family outings. That's my review and random thoughts as someone who has a D750 and lots of lenses for work, has used an LX100 for personal family shots for the past two years, and now owns an X-T2 with the 35mm f/2 lens. and, they even managed to screw everything up by going to a 55mm filter. After a hundred and 57 years of 52 mm filters this kit 18-55 zoom requires a 55mm filter. and then there's The annoyance of the constant reminder that you need to extend the lens first before you can start shooting.

2) Superior focus system "Superior to what?" you might be asking. While I don't know if the XT-2's focus system beats out other mirrorless cameras (it might, I just haven't done the research), I can say with certainty that it's light years ahead of any DSLR I've shot with. DSLR cameras use what's called phase detection autofocus, while mirrorless systems use what's called contrast detection autofocus. What's the difference? Phase detection is generally a little faster, but it has one huge drawback: it can be pretty inaccurate

Unfortunately, its autofocus system is very basic, with only 11 detection points. It's not especially reliable when it comes to face or object tracking. Also, it isn't the best option if you're interested in recording video since it can't record in 4k, and its FHD video quality is mediocre overall. Despite that, it's still one of the best cameras to start photography with, and most beginners will be happy with it

Then there are the physical controls that photo nerds love. Fujifilm has altered the locking mechanism for the shutter speed and ISO dials, making it way simpler to adjust those settings on the fly. You just press once to unlock, and again to lock in your current selection to prevent it from accidentally being changed during shooting. Fujifilm again gives users six function buttons, plus dedicated autoexposure and autofocus buttons

To be honest, the only reason why I bought this was because all modern digital cameras lack the manual control functionalities of the camera. Nowadays, everything is "automatically" managed by the computer within the camera which, in most cases, ruins the pictures. I am so glad that I made the switch to this camera! It does everything that my other cameras does not do! It allows me to manually adjust the focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and so much more! I will admit that the camera can be a bit "much" to those who are new to the DSLR universe, but I will say that after you play with the camera for a while, you will know all of the menus, options and their locations like a pro! What I love about this camera is that you have the ability to switch out the stock lens for a macro lens (those insane close up photos) or for a telephoto lens (for those far distant pictures) if you choose! For me, personally, the stock lens does more than enough, but if I have the urge to buy one of the other lenses, I can do that because the camera is made for expand-ability! Contrary to what others may say, personally, I believe that the JPEG images are super clean and crisp. While you are not supposed to use JPEGs for post-production, I believe you can get away with some minor post with these files

With Fuji’s OIS, I have dropped the shutter to 200. I plan to start shooting at slower shutter speeds until I find the sweet spot where my hand shake does not affect the image. Overall, I would buy this camera again. Actually, at this point, I’d buy the X-T3 for a little bit more money

But I'm willing to order refurb direct for the VR edition of the lense. Got the standard option because I hate lenses with no IS (or VR in this case).

The one con, and its a norm thru all mirrorless experience is the battery. If you are shooting all day, without flipping the camera off during pictures, you will drain battery very quickly. Remember in mirrorless, it's adjusting exposure and composition of picture everywhere the focus goes. I normally just turn camera off when not shooting, and turn it right on when I need to

My biggest issue with Canon cameras was the poor battery performance. I used to lug around three spare batteries to feed be beast with Canons. With this camera I can shoot all weekend with one charge. I must also mentioned that the the great deal Amazon gave me on this camera on the Black Friday deal

Although most reviewers do not comment about it is video qualities I must say it is does make impressive videos. It is outstanding for landscape photography and wildlife photography. I do not use it take photographs of people or events so I cannot comment on that. In terms of weather situations, it did very well in hot Indian weather and can handle a drizzle without a problem

Get the Canon if you want 4k video capability and a fully articulated touchscreen, but if you're new to DSLRs, the Nikon is a great alternative budget option.
