 Hey guys, welcome back to another video and if you're new here my name is Edward Smith and welcome to my YouTube channel and in today's video we're going to be looking at the brand new Focusrite Claret Plus 8 pre USB audio interface and we're going to be comparing it to my old Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 generation 2. So as a lot of you guys know for the past 5 years I've been using the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 USB audio interface for all my recordings, whether it was for a microphone comparison or working on a specific song, I've been using a Focusrite audio interface and I've really been looking for a brand new audio interface to upgrade which is a little bit better but still not crazy expensive that it doesn't make sense for a home studio type setup and as you guys can see I already have the new Focusrite Claret Plus 8 pre USB audio interface set up and ready to go because I just couldn't wait to just upgrade this piece of gear because everything else in my studio setup has been upgraded and I'd like to give a huge shout out to Sweetwater for sending me this audio interface and for sponsoring today's video. Another nice addition that I like with this brand new Claret audio interface is the left and right output levels which isn't something that you got with the older 18i20 which I think visually is nice and it's also just a nice indicator to show you what's going on when you play your tracks

 Now the final thing we have to have a look at is the price difference and when I first purchased my 18i20 around 2015 2016 it did cost me around $500 and the upgraded version the third generation which came out about a year or two ago it's also around $500 $550 and I must say in terms of value for money these audio interfaces are great with 18 inputs 20 outputs a lot of XLR inputs which is nice if you want to record multiple microphones guitars all at the same time and for a studio setup this is an audio interface that's going to last you three four five years easily without needing to upgrade because it is also big enough but if you're looking to upgrade and you want preamp quality you want to be able to hear the quality in an expensive microphone and not record with an 18i20 or something cheap but you want to hear those details and you're paying to hear those details it is a good investment to pay for an audio interface like the Claret that's a thousand dollars that will also last at least five to ten years before you really would want to upgrade and it's just going to do such a good job and give you the vocal quality that you deserve to have when you're recording and making your music.  I use lowish (30 ohm) cans that are very efficient, and find that it plays loud and sounds great. But beware that this is where Focusrite cut corners.  Finally, the bad news. Focusrite's software is a minor horror show

 Support is nonexistent, most help that would be gotten are for the Scarlett series of interfaces, which from personal experience, actually work and are simpler to install.  I was hugely disappointed in the product. I expected better of Focusrite.

It was too much trouble to get working; It forces you to install a control app that doesn't detect the interface the first few times around and the USB drivers cause too many issues. I wasn't able to get an signal to or from the device. Support is nonexistent, most help that would be gotten are for the Scarlett series of interfaces, which from personal experience, actually work and are simpler to install. The last time I did something similar, several months ago, this would have consumed 10-15%. Perhaps one of the iPad updates since I last used the Audiobox changed something on the iPad to remedy this extra battery usage. Presonus' claim about the "trickle charging" may now be valid.

 Don'T work, don't nothing's happening sitting gon na come back over here, every plug that bad boy. In only to have it do it again, this sucks so updated the firmware. I hooked it up to my regular computer and my PC updated the firmware and that didn't work either. This has been going on for since I bought it, but usually you disconnect the USB cable and it go, and it will start right up

 I got the videos, but I can't you know why, because my audio interface sucks. So let's talk about that today on June 4 to 14, so this is her. Ah pretty Sonya Presonus Audiovox I to pet it for a while and when I go to use it, let's see, let's just plug this in real quick by them. It does this

 The new one I bought, the iTwo is junk. It sounds good, when it works. But I never know if it is actually going to work, that's the problem. I plug it in and there is no sound(you can't leave it on because it disconnects from the computer and doesn't reconnect when the computer comes back on, so I was told by tech support to unplug it when it's not in use - very inconvenient)

 Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The computer says it's hooked up and reading it, but no sound comes out of the headphone jack. I have been back and forth with Presonus about this TWICE and tried everything possible to try and get it to work consistently with no luck, and they won't do anything about it. They won't honor the warranty and replace the unit

 But I never know if it is actually going to work, that's the problem. I plug it in and there is no sound(you can't leave it on because it disconnects from the computer and doesn't reconnect when the computer comes back on, so I was told by tech support to unplug it when it's not in use - very inconvenient).
