New user, posting my setup. I'm not a dealer, just a long time vinyl collector. Let me know if anyone has questions or comments on my setup. I've got a weekly YouTube channel but I thought I'd start out by sharing my setup first :)

In the end, I decided on the Fluance RT85 because of a couple of items. I was looking to start a bit cheaper, but the Blue 2M cartridge that came on the Fluance was the deciding factor and I am so glad I went this route. The other reasons were the acrylic platter and the physical switch for the 33/45 instead of having to switch the belt like in many similar priced turntables.

So, I am here to confess that after a lot of back and forth, I am pretty confident that I'm going with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO. I'd like to credit u/sharkamino for all of his help. I did some more research and digging. 

I need to get to my local HiFi store. They're basically down to the P1 and the Evo. 

Now, I'm moving on to pre-amps/integrated receivers. 

Down the rabbit hole I go!

Turntable decision

The best bargain at this price is the Fluance RT85. It comes with an Ortofon 2M Blue, which has a superior stylus compared to what’s on any of these others (nude tip rather than bonded).

I seem to alway find myself in this position when I go and try and buy something I save up for, I save for one thing but once I have the money I find 10 other different options I want. I have about $500 and I’m trying to buy a new turntable. I was saving for the pro- ject debut carbon evo, and I was dead set. 

But then I was playing with an AT-LPW50PB and I thought it was pretty good and I could save some money buying this for a preamp. I’ve heard the motors on these could be a little noisy but I didn’t hear anything with the one I was using.

The agony of trying to buy something new

 There's a lot of slack in the lever, it bounces the arm if you lift it too quickly and the tonearm safety latch feels like its going to break off every time I use it.  My last turntable was a Pro-ject Essential III and even though the body of this Fluance is much more substantial, the entire experience of lowering the needle with the tonearm lever on the Pro-ject was more solid and satisfying, whereas the RT85 feels flimsy and crappy.  The Ortofon 2m Blue looks cool, but to be honest, for a $250 cartridge it doesn't really sound much better to me than the OM10 on my Pro-ject, which didn't sound much better to me than the ADC QLM32 Mrk III on my Hitachi HT-324 from the 80s. I told you I'm not an audiophile

I am not an audiophile, just a guy who likes to listen to records. I bought the white Fluance RT85 because of the positive reviews and because it looked cool with its acrylic platter, etc. I have owned many different turntables and record players over the years, but this one is the most expensive.  Overall it's an okay turntable, but that's probably as far as I would go with it

 Colored vinyl really pops on the white, though the visual aesthetic proves more impressive than actually using it.  The entire tonearm mechanism feels super cheap. The tonearm lever, stand and safety latch actually feels like something you'd find on a cheapo plastic portable record player like a Crosley. Maybe I got a bad one, but that's my honest opinion

 The three rubber isolation feet are easy to adjust and have kept the plinth true. The solid acrylic platter adds a sense of heft and sturdiness. I always use a platter weight as well and the FLUANCE offering does a fine job. The smoked acrylic dust cover is what you'd expect

 The hype is real, as is the delivery of beautiful sound reproduction. I appreciate some of the details in the design such as being able to lock the "S" shaped tone arm in its cradle even if the stylus lever is in the raised position.  The new Bamboo veneer, (Available as of May 22, 2021) is matte, clean and elegant which provides a nice contrast amid the brown, black and silver quagmire of modern Hi-Fi. The Ortofon 2M Blue Cartridge is all it's cracked up to be. The hype is real, as is the delivery of beautiful sound reproduction. I appreciate some of the details in the design such as being able to lock the "S" shaped tone arm in its cradle even if the stylus lever is in the raised position

First things first, the sound quality is a substantial upgrade from the RT82 by FLUANCE that I had purchased only a year prior. In fact it's the best sounding turntable for beginners I've ever heard. Not that I've traveled the world in search of turntable nirvana mind you. However I've seen my fair share amongst others in this price category and I'm highly impressed by the RT85's Value For Money

Still a very good deck but at the going price of $350 new, I'd opt for the Pioneer PLX-500 which has height adjustment; AT seems to have dropped that feature recently. A used AT120 (with the height adjustment) is said by the DJ community to be exactly the same as the PLX-500. However the PLX-500 does come in a cool white color, a pretty snazzy look.

Which should I get, cheaper sooner and save a little longer for the more expensive one ?

 Here we can see the anti-skating control. You can regulate it and also you can regulate the height of the tone arm. It's a great feature. Now let's have a look at the back of this turntable

 Talking about digital part of this turntable. Pioneer DJ PLX500 can be plugged in directly to your computer and you can digitize all your vinyl collection. Also the PLX500 is supplied with software called Rekordbox which allows you to play files on your computer and use the PLX500 as a scratch pad for them. To sum up this device is very impressive for this price

 Here you can see also a little light. Of course the pitch control is present on this device. You can use the pitch fader to change the speed of records playing for a percent up and down. It's a great feature

 I really like the design, how it looks. It's very minimalistic, black, very stylish I think and you also get a choice of two colors. You can get black one as you can see here and white one. This turntable is pretty heavy, the weight is around 11 kilograms

Pioneer DJ PLX 500, best turntable for your money

 And there are two boxes which are cables connected. There is one aux cable and there is one cable to connect to computer because it's direct dry and it can be connected to computer. The RCA cables are directly plugged in to the turntable so it is with the turntable. There is another box, it carries a power cable

 The slip mat is also decent but it's not grey but it does the purpose. The platen, surprisingly it's really sturdy and to be honest it's not that heavy as SL1200 but it is good, it's really sturdy and now you can hear it, it's really sturdy. And there are two boxes which are cables connected. There is one aux cable and there is one cable to connect to computer because it's direct dry and it can be connected to computer

 Fortify adapter looks really neat. It's also steel, unlike Hori Technica, they are providing steel, it's really good, it's really nice. It was the main thing, heads up. Pre-aligned cartridge, looks decent, let's see

 It's not metal but it's hard plastic, the quality is there. The downfall will be if you are a DJ, probably this is low but if you are listening to your music room or something, you are playing it in your music room, then this is good. It stops okay, starts okay but if you are not a DJ, this is good. And the pop-up light, this is one thing which I think they need a revision because this kind of doesn't look that strong but it's okay, we can adjust a little bit

Pioneer PLX 500 Turntable Unboxing Review

 As other customers, I noticed that the construction is not heavy duty, but it is not an expensive device, so what you pay is what you get. Besides the described issues you will get a very decent sound, I believe it is a good value for the money I paid. I am using an Ortofon 2M Bronze cartridge and I am not planning to use this turntable for scratching or as a DJ, just to listen music at home.

 I have no complaints with other issues, but is a fact that this turntable needs an improvement handling the vibration absorption. It looks gorgeous and I choose the black one because all the other components are black as well. As other customers, I noticed that the construction is not heavy duty, but it is not an expensive device, so what you pay is what you get. bass and treble sound great and very clear good sound on my newer records and tested it on some of my worn old records and even makes them sound good!  I purchased this turntable because I want to record my old albums to digital media so that I can listen to them in my vehicles, this was supposed to easily connect to my computer and do just that. WRONG! I have to download an APP that wants my data to obtain the driver, which was never mentioned when I bought it, and would never have agreed to. I declined the membership on this website and contacted Pioneer customer service wanting a simple driver for my computer. I live in Texas so my designated service location is in California according to Pioneer, so I give them a call

If you don't mind sharing your personal data, buy this machine.

 With the PLX500, let's lock this up. The RCA is built in to the bottom, over here. It's not detachable like the PLX1000. It's also internally grounded
