First Alert SCO5CN vs Kidde i9050

I realize these do get dirty and throw codes, and in an effort to combat this I did gently vacuum them periodically, despite which they still advertised their low quality. I'm very disappointed in smoke detectors broadly, since given this short service cycle and the apparent need to replace all four every couple years or lose serious sleep and distrust them when they do go off, they become an item worthy of budgeting for, versus lumping a into low-cost maintenance item category. It doesn't take many false-positives to become driven to the point of ripping them all out and throwing them in the trash, which is exactly what I ended up doing. Irresponsible? Totally

I have better quality smoke & carbon monoxide alarms installed. Ipurchased these alarms to fillon the gap in coverage.

Needless to say bought first alert and still working of course. Best dependable product. Don’t try to save a buck on this important device. Spend the little extra for a trusted product

These smoke detectors are NOT up to code & should not be sold. These smoke detectors are NOT the 10 year type & not allowed in many states. Amazon should not sell them.

I would recommend using a duracell battery for something as important as this. I recommend this alarm because CO kills many people each year and you cannot smell it.

I wanted to order specific replacement CO detectors at the same time and take full advantage of the discount, but the website doesn't carry ALL of the Kidde products -- not-so-good.

This is a very good alarm and easy to remove and install batteries and also remove the entire unit from its mounting bracket if need be. I had other brands that were most difficult to service and not last as long.

One in each living space, one outside of each bedroom, one in the kitchen and some in the basement, including the laundry room were essential. Don’t forget the CO2 detectors! And plug them in low because CO2 is a heavy gas.
