 The Fanatec DD2 is rated for 25Nm of peak torque and 20Nm of constant torque. That would be more than enough for most sim racing applications and is nearly 4 times the strength of the Fanatec Club Sport wheel version 2.5. The wheel isn't just about strength though, it's also incredibly quick allowing you to easily catch slides and get an instantaneous feel of what the car is doing

 To put it simply, the Potnium series absolutely blows the Club Sport wheel out of the water. It is just that much quicker, more precise, and is incredibly more powerful. It basically takes all of the good elements of the Club Sport wheel and turns it up to 11, except for the power which is cranked all the way up to 30. While I unfortunately didn't have too much time to fiddle around with the settings of the wheel, I was able to easily get acclimated to the DD2's force feedback with minimal adaptions to my driving style

 Before we move on, let's also take a quick moment to talk about how this compares to the Club Sport wheel version 2.5 as that was Fanatec's previous high end wheel.  Hey guys, welcome to The SimRacingPatic, I'm William Marsh and these are my impressions

 of the Fanatec Podium Series DD2 direct drive wheel.

 I know this has easily been one of the most anticipated sim racing products of the last

 year or so with Fanatec diving into the direct drive market.

 The question is, have they done a good job?

 I've been wanting to test out Fanatec's direct drive wheel for a while now, but it's been

 proving rather tricky to get my hands on one of them.

 Thankfully, one of my friends who lives a couple hours away got his hands on a DD2 so

 I was able to visit him and test out his setup for a couple hours.

 All he requested was that I provide a shameless plug for his racing league.

 So if you're 25 years or older and are looking for some interesting online racing, check

 out TooOldForForza where they race in a variety of different racing titles including Forza,

 Motorsport, and Horizon as well as Assetto Corsa.

 Now with that shameless plug out of the way, let's talk about my experience driving with

 For my testing of the DD2, I was able to use very similar components to what I use with

 I tested out the wheel utilizing the universal hub with Forza Motorsport rim as well as the

 Because I was driving with components I'm used to, I was able to get an idea on discerning

 more of the subtle nuances on both of the wheels.

 With direct drive wheels, the main factor that's talked about is the force feedback.

 The thing is, just because you mount a wheel onto a big motor doesn't mean you're going

 The force feedback needs to be well developed and refined to provide a good experience.

 Back when I've tested the FeelVR and Simplicity compact wheel, I have learned that you can

 have the powerful hardware, but if the software isn't at the same caliber, it can definitely

 The only thing I'd say was the main perceivable difference versus my personal wheel is that

 the Potnium series motor has less inertia versus my Large Midge open sim wheel.

 That's mainly because Fanatec's motor has less mass compared to the OSW.

 Personally I prefer to have my wheel with a little more inertia which can be added to

 the Fanatec wheel but ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

 One of the slightly irritating elements with the DD2 is that as of right now the full

 Potnium wheel software suite is not available yet.

 That is slightly unfortunate considering you don't get the full potential of the wheel's

 A beta software was planned for release in May but to my knowledge it hasn't been released

 The wheel still runs great with the base drivers that are currently available but it would

 have been nice to get the full use of the software suite.

 Hopefully when the full software is released I can take another look at a Potnium series

 Now let's talk about some of the interesting elements regarding the Fanatec Potnium wheel.

 First off, the wheel is the first released direct drive wheel in an all enclosed package.

 With previous direct drive wheels the motor would be separate from all the electronics

 Now we're seeing wheels such as the Potnium series wheel and the Simucube 2 featuring

 the electronics and wheel motor in a single unit.

 That makes things slightly more convenient but also results in a larger wheel size.
