 This wheel is very smooth, it's free turning and this allows the subtle effects to really be felt. This has always been a problem for me when comparing standard wheels to high end or direct drive wheels. This wheel is bridging that gap when it comes to smoothness or free turning. In fact, I even added a little bit of friction via the software by going to drift mode minus 3 through minus 5 versus turning it to off where it would be at its full lowest resistance

Now during my testing you might have noticed the tuning menus were off in some of those shots, that's because at first there hadn't been an update from Fanateleds or SLI Manager. With this wheel being so new, neither of them had an opportunity to do that yet, but they have since made those updates and you can download the software from either of those companies

 I'm your host Sean Cole, but the real star of today's show is the Fanatec Club Sport

 This is actually the third version of the Club Sport Wheelbase, and with each version

 there's a whole list of improvements, and once again that is the case with the version

 Now, the Club Sport Wheelbase is exactly that, a wheelbase on its own, behind it you can

 see I have a couple of the wheel rim options that are available separately, but the wheelbase,

 the 2.5 version goes for $499, which is exactly the same price as before.

 The Club Sport Wheelbase version 2.5 is then still compatible with all the Fanatec gear,

 so the shifters, the handbrake, any of the wheel rims, and the pedals, and in fact if

 you use the pedals and an Xbox One compatible wheel rim plugged into the wheelbase, it's

 then fully compatible with the Xbox One, which is nice.

 For my testing, I'm going to use two of my favorites, I have the Formula One wheel,

 and the 918 rim from Fanatec, perfect for my testing.

 Now when you first start unpacking the Club Sport Wheelbase, we are greeted with the

 usual motivational build-up on the box flaps.

 And inside the box you will find a user manual, a couple of different mounting or drilling

 templates, a power cord, a power supply, some various cables, and the wheelbase in its protective

 And when the bag is opened, the new wheelbase is revealed and we get our first look at the

 The Fanatec Club Sport Wheelbase version 2.5 actually looks just like its previous versions,

 the biggest noticeable difference being the engraved logo on the front.

 The base remains made of aluminum that is anodized in black finish on the face, the

 bottom, the sides, and the top with the exception of the tinted window that allows the view

 The back of the Club Sport base is made of high quality plastic, also in black.

 The face of the Club Sport base has a power button on it that lights up red when turned

 And there are also a series of mounting holes intended for the static shifters, or second

 party button boxes, or gauges that are made for the Club Sport wheelbase from third parties.

 The sides of the Club Sport base are vented for cooling, and there is a fan on the left

 On the back plastic cover you will find another Fanatec logo, another fan and vent, and the

 plug-in point for our wiring and extra components to reach the main board.

 The bottom of the base is also made of anodized black aluminum and has the standard Fanatec

 You also have the option for the Club Sport mount.

 This mount reclines the wheelbase 20 degrees and then switches it to the standard Fanatec

 Also a carryover or identical to its previous versions is the giant wheel connector or driveshaft

 It is keyed for the wheel rims and has pass-through wiring connections, so there are no extra

 This works with the quick release system for any of the Fanatec wheel rims.

 As I mentioned, the most noticeable difference between the 2.5 and previous versions is the

 engraved logo on the front, however the biggest changes were actually done inside of the wheelbase.

 The version 2.5 has been reworked in several areas to increase its performance.

 Over the years, Fanatec has put a lot of work into reducing the amount of drag in their

 dual belt drive system and the 2.5 is the pinnacle of their work.

 It is a dual belt drive system that has seen a new wave of freedom and even lower drag

 In this dual belt system, one belt moves from the driveshaft to a secondary pulley that

 is also connected to the output shaft of our wheel rim.

 There are also 2 hall effect sensors on this wheel, one on the driveshaft from the motor

 and the other one on the steering shaft.

 These shafts and pulleys all turn on heavy duty ball bearings and they use high end European

 belts that should last a very long time.

 The motor within the Club Sport V2.5 is a brushless motor that has an elaborate heatsink

 This motor provides up to 8Nm of torque at the wheel which is the same as the V2 model.

 The electronics that control this motor are brand new to the model 2.5.

 These new electronics run at 1000Hz versus the 500Hz of the V2.

 This allows for lower damping in the motor and an even freer moving drivetrain.

 The Fanatec Club Sport wheel can be tuned or have its settings changed on the fly via

 the on-board display on any of the wheel rims.

 As I mentioned, the Club Sport wheelbase is a compact design.

 It measures in at 11.5 inches or 295mm wide.

 It is then 6.25 inches or 159mm front to back with the steering shaft extending another

 The wheelbase on its own stands 6 inches or 152mm tall and using the 20 degree angle mount

 that raises things up by 2 inches or 51mm.
