Toner cartridges for colour laser printers are extremely expensive while ink bottles for tank printers like the Epson Ecotank ET-5800 are extremely inexpensive.

Ink cartridges are so expensive especially when printing a lot of web pages and documents at home in both colors and B&amp;W with previous HP OfficeJet Pros (8600 and 8028e). Also, copying, scanning, and faxing through old fashion phone lines. Do toners last longer? Are laser ones any better even though they cost more?

Time to for an one in one color laser printer instead of inkjet?

 Usually the catch with premium photo printers like this is the crippling cost of the ink cartridges, but with ink tanks, its actually very economical to run. Aside from the high initial cost, it&rsquo;s hard to find fault with the Epson EcoTank ET-8550.

The large 10.9cm colour touchscreen tilts up for easy access and below this you can clearly see the six ink reservoirs. There&rsquo;s something reassuring about seeing how much ink you have in the tank rather than waiting for that dreaded message from your printer telling you to buy more cartridges.&nbsp;

The grey ink that most other printers lack gives the Epson EcoTank ET-8550 a real advantage when it comes to rendering black and white photos. The improved greyscale can make your arty prints look professional, especially when blown up onto A3 paper.

.. I tried for a variety of shots, wanting to see the colors this printer put out, as well as the detail -- I love being able to see the storm on the horizon in some shots for instance.

 (When putting the paper into the printer, I also go through the prompts on the touchscreen to tell it what kind of paper I've loaded. Telling it in both places has resulted in EXCELLENT print quality thus far.) I saw someone mention they were glad they had a PC for this set up because it made it easier, but from what we experienced, setting up the wireless printing for my wife's mac book was more easier than her PC. Definitely get what you pay for! I barely print and ink lasts only about 6 weeks and I get the xl. Have bought ink 3 times since March and don’t use printer much, maybe a few sheets a month. Disappointed.

 Setting this thing up was the most complicated thing I’ve ever had to experience. I don’t know if it was because I’m on the wrong type of Wi-Fi, or my laptop is not updated. Complicated set up for a super simple printer.

 Unfortunately, this feature was disabled by default (at least on this printer). When I tried to register I kept getting a rather innocuous error. After a bit of frustration and way too much time, I found reference to how to enable it, but using a browser to connect to the printer directly. Cool - except I was prompted for a password, which wasn't provided anywhere
