Toner cartridges for colour laser printers are extremely expensive while ink bottles for tank printers like the Epson Ecotank ET-5800 are extremely inexpensive.

Ink cartridges are so expensive especially when printing a lot of web pages and documents at home in both colors and B&amp;W with previous HP OfficeJet Pros (8600 and 8028e). Also, copying, scanning, and faxing through old fashion phone lines. Do toners last longer? Are laser ones any better even though they cost more?

Time to for an one in one color laser printer instead of inkjet?

 Usually the catch with premium photo printers like this is the crippling cost of the ink cartridges, but with ink tanks, its actually very economical to run. Aside from the high initial cost, it&rsquo;s hard to find fault with the Epson EcoTank ET-8550.

The large 10.9cm colour touchscreen tilts up for easy access and below this you can clearly see the six ink reservoirs. There&rsquo;s something reassuring about seeing how much ink you have in the tank rather than waiting for that dreaded message from your printer telling you to buy more cartridges.&nbsp;

The grey ink that most other printers lack gives the Epson EcoTank ET-8550 a real advantage when it comes to rendering black and white photos. The improved greyscale can make your arty prints look professional, especially when blown up onto A3 paper.

 The paper trays are sensitive to new paper being loaded and the screen prompts you to select the appropriate type and size of media. The Epson Smart Panel app gives you even more control from your smartphone and adds functionality such as templates for greetings cards.

6-ink EcoTank is ideal for A3 photos

 Adding the ink was almost foolproof thanks to the new bottle tips. I did not use gloves and there was no ink stains on me or the desk. All the bell's and whistles for home printing...but expect to pay for these options

.. I tried for a variety of shots, wanting to see the colors this printer put out, as well as the detail -- I love being able to see the storm on the horizon in some shots for instance.

 (When putting the paper into the printer, I also go through the prompts on the touchscreen to tell it what kind of paper I've loaded. Telling it in both places has resulted in EXCELLENT print quality thus far.)  At this point, I just need my rear paper feeder to stop jamming/crumpling paper, and this may well be the best printer I've gotten in a LONG time.  I tried to make a short video showing some of the pictures I was able to print off of this Epson, the pictures have been taken over the past 10-15 years, so some of them are off older digital cameras, some of them were taken with 10x zoom

The best supertank printer with AirPrint we've tested is the Epson EcoTank ET-3850.
