 Alright, hello everyone, my name is Kit, welcome to another unboxing, this time of the Elacom Deft Pro Trackball Mouth. So here's what it looks like, it's the inside, description, and this is the side, back, the side, bottom, and top. Okay let's just open it, oh shit, uh, what the fuck? Okay there we go, alright here it is, and wow that is pretty big, oh wow this is pretty hefty, so okay multiple buttons here, let's just go through it, so we have buttons here, here, here, here, and is this a button? Oh it is, it's a switch, interesting, okay, and then on the bottom we have this, which I don't know what it is, something to pair, we have this, I think it's probably a holder for the dongle, then on the top here we have a function 1 button, a right button, and then a function 2 button, so there's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and then a switch, so 7 buttons and a switch, okay cool, we got our battery here, and then down below is a dongle, okay and I'm guessing this dongle can go right here, yep, okay so we got ourselves a USB micro, micro USB cable, and yeah this is what you use to charge it, I'm guessing, or maybe, maybe if you want to connect it wired, so for this, this is battery powered, using a AA battery, let's go ahead and put this in, okay cool, so yeah, there should be a manual somewhere inside here, okay so there's a bunch of words that I don't understand, but if you want the English version, just go on here, oh so it's in Japanese, I see, okay there's nothing else in the box, so yeah, that is basically it, so we got the cable, the mouse itself, and then the instruction manual, and for comparison, here is the Elacom Bitra, so significantly smaller, this is way bigger, wow, okay, interesting, okay, so this is the interesting, yeah so this one might be better for watching TV, I can use this as a TV mouse, this one is more like really heavy duty for using, for your normal workstation, alrighty, that's basically it, thanks for watching, have a good one, bye.

ELECOM Deft Pro Finger-Operated Trackball Mouse (M-DPT1MRXBK) - Unboxing

 Going back into the review, the Deft Pro is going to be very similar, in a sense, to the other Elacom product, the Elacom Huge. I say similar in that it does take a lot of design inspiration from the Microsoft Trackball Explorer, being that it is a finger-operated trackball with the left mouse button and most of the buttons located down here on the thumb cluster. Aside from that, the real difference is that the Deft Pro is going to be much more compact than the Elacom Huge. Now I did just recently review the Huge, so I will be drawing a lot of parallels to that

 Now the case of the Deft Pro is very similar to the Elacom Huge in the fact that it's not the highest quality plastic, like you would see with, say, an X-Key Zeltrack, but at the same time it's also not the worst quality plastic. It does have a pretty nice weight to it, there really isn't any echo, it's solid overall. It feels like a fairly premium product, not necessarily in line with the MX Ergo, but maybe just a slight step down. So again, nothing crazy here, but it also doesn't suck

 It's nothing crazy, but again, it's not the worst that I've seen in a trackball by any stretch of the imagination. Now, the ball itself is interesting. It's larger than a thumb-operated trackball, but it's not quite the same size as what the Elacom Huge had. I believe the Elacom Huge was at 52 millimeters, and I do believe that the Deft Pro is at 44 millimeters

 It feels like a fairly premium product, not necessarily in line with the MX Ergo, but maybe just a slight step down. So again, nothing crazy here, but it also doesn't suck. It's a perfectly usable trackball and it doesn't leave you feeling like you wasted your money, which is a good sign. So you'll notice that the top housing of the case is more of this kind of matte black textured finish to it

 I think there was a time when the Def Pro was really one of the only options you had for a compact MTE style trackball. But there are other options out there now, and it is just lacking in some of the basic necessities and the hand shape is very static and locks you in. And that wraps up today's review, everyone. Due to severe muscle imbalances, RSI, carpal tunnel etc., I've been on an ergonomic mission for some time and have finally switched my setup to a Kinesis Freestyle (split keyboard) with hopes to move on to a dactyll build or Kinesis Advanage 2. As for my mouse, after using a Logi Marble for a bit, I received an Elecom Deft Pro today which I am already starting to love from a few minutes of using it.

Trackball technology may seem old-fashioned, but modern trackball mice provide a comfortable, ergonomic alternative to more conventional designs. If you're interested in a work-oriented trackball option, the Logitech MX ERGO is the best we've tested. It feels very well-made and is ideal for a palm grip for all hand sizes. There's also an included metal tilt plate that you can use to angle the mouse halfway between a customary palm-down position and a handshake position.

This mouse sits stationary on your desk and has a pair of standard left- and right-click buttons, a scroll wheel with horizontal scrolling inputs, and a large trackball for your thumb to control the cursor. You can connect it wirelessly via Bluetooth or a USB receiver and pair it wirelessly with up to two devices at the same time. Logitech advertises this mouse has a full-charge battery life of around four months.

Unfortunately, the design is bulky, and the unusual shape makes it an unlikely candidate for travel use. Also, the scroll wheel lacks a free-scrolling mode, which is unusual considering it's a staple feature for other mice in Logitech's exclusive MX productivity mouse lineup. Altogether, this mouse is a great design if you have limited desk space or want a more ergonomic option to reduce the strain on your body using a mouse for a long period.

The best mouse for MacBook Pro with a trackball we've tested is the Logitech MX ERGO. It has a right-handed shape and a trackball on the left designed for use with your thumb. This mouse is fairly large and heavy, but it remains stationary when you use it, which can prevent some of the wrist strain associated with more conventional mice you have to move across a desk.

It feels very sturdy and connects wirelessly with its USB receiver or Bluetooth. You can also pair it wirelessly with two devices simultaneously and switch between them using the button behind the scroll wheel. Unlike many similar trackball mice with a rotating ring around the trackball for scrolling, this mouse has a conventional scroll wheel. It also has left- and right-tilt inputs for horizontal scrolling.

Unfortunately, the scroll wheel doesn't unlock for a free-scrolling mode, which can be disappointing if you frequently work with long documents or web pages. Additionally, this mouse has a low, fixed polling rate, meaning it isn't a suitable choice for gaming after the workday is done. All in all, this mouse is a great choice if you also use your MacBook Pro at home and prefer a more ergonomic trackball design.

If you're looking for a trackball mouse, look no further than the Logitech MX ERGO. It features a right-handed slanted design with a trackball on the left side under your thumb to move the cursor. It's a stationary mouse, so its design reduces wrist strain during those long workdays since you don't need to use wrist or arm movements to control it.

It feels very well-built and solid, and there's also a pinky rest, so none of your fingers should hang awkwardly off the edge of the mouse. It connects wirelessly using its USB receiver or via Bluetooth, and it uses a rechargeable battery for power. Unlike other trackball mice that use a ring around the trackball for scrolling, this mouse has a more typical-looking scroll wheel with L/R tilts for easy horizontal navigation through spreadsheets or video timelines. You can also reprogram all of its buttons to best suit your workflow.

Unfortunately, its scroll wheel doesn't unlock for free scrolling, which might be annoying if you spend a lot of time navigating long documents. It also has a low, fixed polling rate, so it's not very versatile and isn't suitable for gaming use. With that said, it's a good choice if you're looking for a trackball mouse with a comfortable, ergonomic design.

The best trackball we've tested is the Logitech MX ERGO. It has an ergonomic, right-handed shape that's well-suited for all hand sizes using a palm grip. There are left- and right-click buttons and a conventional scroll wheel on the right side, and a large trackball on the left. There's also a metal plate attachment that tilts the mouse 20&ordm; to the right, so your hand posture is somewhere between a handshake and a more traditional palm-down position.

Like other products in Logitech's MX lineup, it feels very well-built and sturdy, but the materials and finish don't feel quite as premium as those of the Logitech MX Master 3, for example. You can connect this mouse wirelessly using its USB receiver or via Bluetooth, and it has a rechargeable battery for power. Logitech advertises a battery life of up to four months. You can pair two devices simultaneously and switch between them using the dedicated device switching button behind the scroll wheel.

Unfortunately, while the scroll wheel has L/R tilt buttons for horizontal scrolling, it doesn't unlock for a quicker free-scrolling mode, which is disappointing if you frequently deal with long documents or web pages. Also, while it has robust companion software to program buttons and adjust CPI settings, there's no option to increase the polling rate, which isn't high enough to produce smooth cursor movements for gaming. Altogether, this is a very ergonomic and customizable option for everyday browsing or productivity work.

Even though it can take some time to get used to a mouse with a trackball, it is somewhat more natural with the included precision button on the Logitech MX Ergo. When the user initiates the precision button, the cursor speed reduces, allowing you to get better handling of precise movements. The mouse adjusts quickly from an angle of  0° up to 20° to allow you to find a suitable place to rest your hand. 
This trackball mouse does have some notable setbacks. In order to remove the trackball for cleaning, a separate tool is necessary. Like the other models in the Logitech lineup, the dongle doesn't have a convenient storage location. The angle adjustment plate uses a pretty strong magnet to stay attached, but there's still a chance you could lose it. Without the angle adjustment plate, the mouse becomes unstable and can wobble around, making it uncomfortable to handle. Despite these minor inconveniences, we think the Logitech MX Ergo is a superb trackball mouse for anyone willing to give it a chance.

 Also on the side you get a precision button that allows you to get more precise when using the trackball so when you have that on you also get an LED indicator showing it is currently turned on. At the bottom of the MX Ergo we get an on and off switch and a micro USB port for charging which you get a micro USB cable supplied in the box as well. Now the MX Ergo at first glance looks like a very comfortable trackball which to be honest after using it for several days it sure is comfortable. It has a soft and sort of rubbery top to place your hand on with a slight curve to rest your pinky on on the side of it

 It has a nice ergonomic design aka the name Ergo so when placing your hand, whether you have a large hand or small hand, it will feel comfortable. So checking out the MX Ergo, on top you have your normal left and right click buttons and also a track wheel. This track wheel allows you to not only click it in but it also allows you to click it left or right. Next to that you also have two buttons which are preset to going back or forward a page when for example on the internet browser or if you're in the window you can go back and forward as well

The shape of this mouse is perfect. The tilt up metal plate works great. Imo this is the only thumb ball mouse I'd consider.  Pros: Shape Quality Battery life  Cons Micro USB for a mouse this expensive it should definitely be USB C Switch longevity I have had the clicker go out before on this mouse and was forced to by a new one Rubber on mouse, it feels great new but does not age the best after years of use  Overall this mouse is fantastic! Sure, it's not very colorful, but you're likely to be using it next to a grey or black keyboard, as well as a dark-colored laptop or display, so it probably won't clash as much as, say, the fiery red ball on the Trackman.
