 But I like that in the whole board the presentation, the chips and everything that this is not a box full of miniatures. I may have added managers to mine, but you don't need to and I think the game works, despite not having all those miniatures and that's because of one reason. Why do I like this game more than Arkham Horror, because they are similar in a lot of ways? Here'S the tests that you roll and then you have guns and things and weapons and spells. But I like this one because it has more of a feeling of adventure, sure you're, fighting, Cthulhu, esque and zombies and leopard headed men and giant spiders

 What do you do? A or B here you feel the theme of the game comes through, and while I'm not a big fan of horror and such here, it's a little spooky and it works. I'M not sitting there longer, but at the same time like what is that? What did I go a little mad there, hmm and the choices you have. I really liked it two choices. When you get two cards, you can decide whether you will attempt to test or not

 Here'S some clues go, get those clues. There are some gates go shut down. Those gates here is something you must do to stop this ancient one do it, but how you get there, there's really a lot of options and you can talk about those options, everybody so everyone's talking about them and saying you should do this and you should do That and I like that open-ended world, that the game has had some really unique characters: they're flawed characters, they're characters that are going to be probably weak at something, there's no character who walks in like a tank and can do whatever they want or if they can Walk in like a tank, then probably are immune psychologically to monsters or get scared easily, and I like that. Every character has their unique uses and if one of your characters dies over the course of the game, which is very possible - and I also love how a dead character integrates into the story itself, you get another character and keep going, and I found that that was Enjoyable, the the game is strange right

Why I Love Eldritch Horror - with Tom Vasel

 They should be able to occasionally do crazy, like spawning gates and monsters or advancing doom in examples of as a Thoth and Cthulhu koltes literally do nothing outside of hernia lure more when fighting them. There are monsters that do things when spawn or a trigger abilities that correspond to the random reckonings occur, but this should be something on most monsters instead of some. The short version of most of our concert, pretending I audit or throws obstacles at us - is that the game needs more content to go up against in general, it needs more variety, and what is there it's to be more strongly connected to the ancient one that you're Fighting as it stands in the base game, the only difference you really get with a different ancient one are slightly different objectives and a few new encounters, namely to research encounters while everything else more or less stays the same. Granted the mythos, Otherworld and expedition decks are decently sizeable and will definitely last you a while in terms of replayability but location encounter decks are definitely way too small

 Let'S dive into the actual meat of this review, where we talk about what we think are the pros and of eldritch horror, starting with the pros. Let'S talk about the good things about Detroit that has captured shelf sized imaginations so well, first, the components if you're like me, you've seen how beautifully done this boxes and were immediately curious about the game. Fortunately, this box is just the beginning. The Lovecraftian theme, with flavor techs and wonderfully drawn art using from every single piece, is just amazing

 You move Tyrese! No, no, no! No and talk to her, you find she believed me starship, Baron is physically exhausting. Would you try to take the bodies of the icy terrain? Now you do a strength check, Hey and if you succeed in Auto relic lies next they're covered creatures corpse gain artifact. Then you examine the body, we won't tell you what happens next? Okay, you can. You can come back when you yeah, hey dice, roll that way? Okay, so we got like a bajillion components here that all aesthetically fit into the feet very well

 This myth of stick will occasionally give you rumors, which are side quests, which may or may not be mandatory based off how severe their drawbacks are. There'S also these expedition encounters which Daniel read from before, which spawn on the locations depicted on the back of the deck these give powerful artifacts. Furthermore, every ancient one also has their own research encounters that reward these Green clue tokens usually spent as a premium currency. For things like the dressing, mysteries are exchanging for powerful wards during encounters, then, on top of that, there's gates spawning periodically through the mythos deck and city encounters rewarding specific things like stat improvements or certain items

Eldritch Horror | Shelfside Review

 Do we win, or lose? According to the reference guide under "Conflicts" pg 4, "If multiple effects would be resolved at the same time, [my 3rd mystery solved therefore win, mythos deck empty therefore we lose] the active player decides the order in which they are resolved." So it looks like I could choose that the mystery was solved before I had to flip the next card, therefore I win. In addition to that, the section on "Winning" on pg 12 again also says "The game immediately ends when an effect specifies that 'Investigators win the game,' or 'Investigators lose the game.' In the rare circumstances that both these effects happen at the same time, investigators win the game

 therefore we win. It's a conflict. Do we win, or lose? Losing my sanity over this excellent game!

 I hate how you can get to a clue encounter and even if you succeed you don't get the clue so you might just camp there for 3-4 turns. I really dislike how swingy and unfair it feels - get the wrong tentacle card at the wrong time and that's two hours of game down the drain. And finally, winning is so anticlimactic it's not rewarding at all: "OK then I do this.

 The way the different enemies behave, the way the cards synergise with each other and between players, the legacy elements...it's suddenly rewarding

 Love the combat mechanics of Arkham Horror? They're still here, just a smidge simpler. Love the feeling of being one turn away from winning when all of a sudden everyone fails their skill checks and the Elder God awakens? You got it. That happens a lot.  The mechanics are simpler but the difficulty is still weighted toward "we're all gonna die" with a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel

 The mechanic of a worldwide map instead of a claustrophobic city map also makes the game feel a lot more sweeping and epic in scope. Gameplay only takes about two hours from opening the box to grumbling about how unfair the dice were while packing it all up.  If I have any complaint, it's the usual for Fantasy Flight Games that there are a heck of a lot of pieces. Buy a crafts organizer or some other way to keep everything separate and it will make your life so much easier

Another Classic from Fantasy Flight Games

 When I'm writing a concert review, I can mention that, unlike me, the crowd went wild. And when I'm writing a review of Eldritch Horror, which I hate, I can mention that the artwork is amazing. I'm comparing my ratings to the other games that I have played and I take weight into consideration.

 Also, when it comes to board games, we might not feel like we know enough to write a review unless we've played it multiple times and why would we want to play a game that we don't like? It's also easy to write about, or rate, something that we hate. It's the things in between that are a challenge when you're trying to pinpoint what you really feel.

 I can see that it objectively has some downsides, but the upsides outweigh them for me and it has everything I want in a game of its weight. The base game is still not a 10/10 because of the boring egg party in the end.

 I'm comparing my ratings to the other games that I have played and I take weight into consideration.

BGG isn't very helpful on this matter either, as this difference is essentially "always want to play it" vs "always want to play it and expect this will never change". I guess I just assume if I'm willing to rate a game as high as 9, I don't anticipate ever not wanting to play it. 

My only two clear 9/10s are Secret Hitler and the Game of Thrones board game. I absolutely love both of those games, but I feel both require pretty specific player counts to maintain proper balance and provide the 10/10 experience (8 or 10 players with SH, 6 players with GoT or 4 with the FFC expansion), and therefore I feel a 9 is justified.

What separates a 9/10 from a 10/10 for you?

 - Winning or losing is almost always very close, which means the game has just the right difficulty and all numbers/items/possible actions are brilliantly designed. - I also like the idea of having a cooperative game, where we all play against the game instead of against each other. The game requires a great deal of cooperation and coordination among the players in order to win, which makes it a great team building activity. - The game is scalable: possible actions and number of items changes depending on the number of players involved

My wife and I were looking for a sophisticated board game to keep us entertained, and Eldritch Horror came to be the best game we ever played. First of all, the game is very elaborate, and full of details. To play our first game, we spent about 30min just trying to setup the game board and another 1h to understand the rules and play our first game. Things we like about this game: - The level of details and sophistication involved

 - At every step in the game, a test has to be resolved by a die roll or picking a random card, or random item: this makes the game highly randomized and unpredictable, resulting in a fresh experience with each new game. - In each round, the players got to make critical decisions, which makes the game also strategic. Full coordination and cooperation between the players is essential. - The game has more than 10 different card decks as well as many other item pools (all of them are used during the game), which gives a great deal of randomization and makes the game hard to predict

Awesome game: Very elaborate, well designed and highly entertaining

Hello welcome back to the channel, and this is the channel where we give you reviews playthroughs unboxings. Would you really like to talk a load of bullocks about tabletop gaming in general in this video we're going to be talking about an ameritrash game that features the often overused theme of love, crafty and horror, we're going to be talking about eldritch, horror and in this Game you'll be taken on the role of an investigator you'll, be traveling around the world, trying to get clues. That will allow you to defeat the ancient old one that will allow you to win the game. So in this video we're going to be giving you a very brief overview of the rules, we tell you what we do like we don't like we'll come back and we'll tell you whether or not eldritch horror is still worth playing

 In the rule book, and even then i was thinking what card is this? Do i have to use this one? Which component am i meant to put here so i end up giving up and i'm gon na i'll come back to it later, but this set up if you've got a lot of content, may just put you in a mental institution. So the next thing that we don't like about eldritch horror is that the box says eight players, eight players, my ass, you ain't, never ever gon na be able to get through a game with us with eight players. If you do try it with eight players, you'll probably either fall asleep or just basically rot into a pile of dust, because you're going to be waiting about seven years for your turn to come round yeah. So my advice to you is: don't play this with eight players play it with a maximum of four

 These are also really really bad. Then you'll spawn a number of gates on the reference card. This is where monsters come out of the gates and their sole purpose is to try and make your life a bit of a misery. Then, if the mythos card tells you to you'll, do a monster search and basically each gate that matches the iron into token's current space, spawn a number of monsters shown on the reference card

 It was too long. It'S too big used to take you about six hours to play this one. If you've got the core set, you can knock this one out in about an hour and a half two hours, maybe even less, if you're playing with less players. So, at the time when this was first released right, it was a breath of fresh air and it made arkham horror or the lovecraftian ballgame type thing more accessible to more people

Eldritch Horror Review - Still Worth It?

 The horrible artificial cherry olfactory accident is also overtaking everything, making me smell like I tried to bake a cake but all the ingredients I used were from a scrap metal yard. This shares the same "something is going bad" note as Bette (reviewed below), which turns out to be "I dropped a piece of vanilla cake in the cat's litter box".

I won't be doing number ratings as I find categorising perfume in such a way to be very uninformative and misleading at best.

I am an autumnal fairy getting drunk on honey and dark red jam whilst smoking a cigar. The smokiness is light and pleasant considering how much I tend to despise tobacco notes in mainstream perfumery. There's a very strong honey note that pulls boozy. Together with the fruit preserves it actually reminds me of niche brand Mendittorosa's Sirio (another boozy fruit fragrance), but Sirio is a purple scent whereas Cassiopeia is golden

 It was hard but thinky and we found it to be really thematic and engaging. Played a few times but it's been on the shelf for at least 4 years now.

We're going to give it one more shot tonight. I'm going to re-read the rules again, print off some reference sheets, and hope for the best. It's kind of like hanging out with an high school buddy when you're both in your 30s. You've both changed but maybe you've also just grown apart

Last night we decided to play again. Since it's been awhile, we went back to using the recommended Ancient One just so we could get familiarized again with the rules and flow of play..

 We played a game of it on what I consider to be an enormous dining room table and the three of us barely had enough room for our elbows once we'd set the game up. It is the game for which no table is adequate so unless you have an insane amount of surface area at your disposal, you might want to give this game a pass.  Next, the game is *hard*. At points it's crazy hard

 If all of the players aren't used to/extremely comfortable with cooperative games, you'll find it nigh on impossible to win a game. If even a single player decides to ignore the suggestions of the others and do their own thing, you're done. Every single action you take *must* be made with the team's best interest/strategy firmly in mind.  Lastly, the setup time I mentioned above doesn't go away

  Next, the game is *hard*. At points it's crazy hard. Every turn you need to flip a "Mythos" card and pretty much every one of these brings you closer to certain doom. The players *really* need to coordinate their actions and pick their battles in order to have a prayer of winning

Long Story short: This game is absolutely wonderful! This (according to many board game review sites) is set to be the top game of 2017, and I 100% recommend getting yourself a copy, though it will likely be difficult/take some time. Its definitely a HOT selling item and I was lucky enough to pre-order mine a month ago before other folks started seeing it listed on Amazon. This is definitely worth getting and will make a huge hit to your gaming nights! A more detailed breakdown is below. (Note relating to pictures: The game does NOT come with painted miniatures

This game is absolutely wonderful!

 You can then upgrade to the full GH experience later and can bring the classes across so its literally win win. One massive downside to GH is the organisation, the 3rd party inserts are a godsend but can cost almost as much as the base game.

Some friends and I split $25/each and bought my sister Gloomhaven as a Christmas gift - on my suggestion. I bought it from our local shop today and the size &amp; weight immediately had me worried... because **a primary reason we were buying her a new boardgame is that she has a hard time getting people to play Dead of Winter with her (a game she** ***really*** **likes).**

I have no clue where I got this idea, but I thought Gloomhaven would be something she could more easily get people to play. Anyway, I have since learned the error of my ways.

I felt pretty confident that she would at least really like the game and could find a regular player in me (we live together) and at least one other friend. So I've been thinking about doing all the setup/organization for her beforehand... but if I do this, there is no turning back. I can't return the game. And I'm starting to doubt how much she'll like it... I may also be panicking...

I did buy another game for her that's half the price, with much easier setup and simpler rules, just so she has *options...*

**TL;DR - I split Gloomhaven as a Christmas gift. Should I open it up and start the setup/organization process, voiding my ability to return it? Or should I just return it? Did I buy my sister a burden?**

Some additional gaming background on my sister:

* She enjoys DnD a lot. We played regularly for 4 years until I had to quit DMing after going back to school
* She really likes Dead of Winter for it's Co-Op gameplay, Narrative Choice mechanics, Variable Player Powers, and tense *moments*
* Dead of Winter is the only medium weight board game she owns
* The next heaviest is Betrayal at House on the Hill
* Root is a medium weight game she has also really enjoyed
* She seems to really like boardgames and seems to want to delve deeper into the hobby, but hasn't yet
* BANG!, Coup, Pit, Catan, Ticket to Ride, Secret Hitler, and Fake Artist Goes to New York are all games she's liked and enjoyed, but they're all light weight and don't scratch the same itch
* We've gifted her expansions for DoW and Betrayal in the past. We want to buy her a new, medium weight game

I think she is going to be MUCH happier with these lol thanks again for all the help! And big shoutout to my local shop who were super nice and helpful while I tried correcting this blunder ╰(´︶`)╯♡

EDIT: I have learned my lesson and will do more research before buying very hobby specific gifts for a hobby I&#39;m not involved in 🥲 I&#39;m going to talk to my friends about returning it get to get JotL and another game instead, or getting a different, pricier game that better suits what we&#39;re aiming for.
