I no longer use Derby razor blades in any razor. I tried several brands from a sample pack and found that I get the best performance from Personna Med Prep blades in all three of my razors. Your mileage may vary and I encourage you to try several blades in whichever razor you ultimately buy.

The brush is just a $15 perfecto brush with pure badger hair. By the time they graduated little DE89 grew up strong and resilient to be the Edwin Jagger 3one6. It stopped being friends with the derby blade bc of its dull personality and hung out with its British packaged Persona Israeli red who was much sharper. While the razor grew up quite solid and sturdy and a bit more aggressive, the brush pursued a more artistic route

I had been using the same safety razor I bought from a local barbershop since around 2017, and had grown bored of it, as well as wanting to upgrade in terms of aggressiveness. I ended up buying both the Mühle R89 and Mühle R41. I initially went with the R89, but while it was more aggressive than my previous razor, it didn't feel like that much of a step up.

I ordered this as someone new to DE shaving and looking at online review and recommendations. The most commonly recommended/mild razors for people starting out were the Edwin Jagger de89 series (this razor has the exact same head, I believe) and Merkur, with more votes for the EJ. I bought this as I wanted the grippiest handle, so it was either this or the EJ barleycorn (?). Regarding the handle, if my hands are soapy, it is slippery despite the pattern (I suspect that any razor would be with enough soap)

The screw is clearly made of what appears to be cast metal instead of forged metal, which means the screw is brittle and will break just like mine did. Loved the razor, but I'm not buying another one. Too expensive for it to just break for no reason.

This is one of the best closed comb razors available for the price. This razor is somewhat on the light side, but easy to control. The handle has a very nice knurling. Not very deep, but at the same time I have not noticed any loss of grip with soapy hands or oily fingers from using a pre-shave oils like Somersets or Shave Secret
