 You must remove the record and then place the dustcover back on every time you listen, which is disappointing and defeats the purpose of a dustcover in my opinion. I like for the record I was listening to last to be waiting for me. Second, if you pause the record mid-way because you want to flip sides early, the platter does not automatically stop. I'm used to sliding the needle back home and having the turntable stop automatically

I spent a great deal of time researching turntables. I had a Target Heyday turntable and knew it was time to upgrade as I've become a more avid listener. I knew I wanted to upgrade my cartridge to one from Ortofon, specifically the TTL exclusive 2M Silver Cartridge pre-mounted on Ortofon's SH-4 headshell. This was my deciding factor to go with the DP-400 model instead of the fully automatic DP-300F

 After having the player for a few weeks, there are a few things that I find disappointing. First, the dust cover. It's not the modern design, I don't mind that. It's that I cannot simply close the dustcover and go on about my day after listening to my record

 That is not the case here - it will continue to spin until you turn the knob to the off position. The sound is great! I'm unable to tell if that's due to the quality cartridge or the quality turntable, but it renders a lot more bass and creates a very enjoyable listening experience. It's just some of the convenience features that really make a difference to me and why this is a 4-star review. I was very intimidated by the setup process, however, it could not have been more simple!

 The Denon DP-400 turntable is built upon the popular DP-300F turntable. It comes with a 3-speed DC motor, auto stop function, and an S-shaped tone arm. With the built-in preamp, the DP-400 can be plugged into any aux input. If you want to use your own preamp, this function can be turned off via the equalizer switch located on the back of the turntable

 Turn the anti-skate dial so it's lined up with the number 2.

 Plug in the supplied RCA's to the outputs of the turntable.

 To connect the turntable to a system with a standard aux input, simply flick the equalizer to the on position.

 Connect the supplied AC adapter to the port found on the rear panel of the turntable.

 Turn the power slash RPM knob to the desired speed, then raise the stylus cover on the cartridge.

 Now release the arm rest lock and raise the tone arm using the lifter lever.

 Then use the finger lift to place the stylus at the start position of the record.

 If you wish to disengage the auto stop function, locate the switch on the rear panel and make sure that it's in the on position.

 The unique design of the dust cover allows it to be used as a record stand.

 Simply face the dust cover as shown, then insert it into the groove in the provided dust cover stand.

 That's all. Have fun and enjoy your turntable.

 That is when the real potential of this turntable has been unlocked. A $59 Phono Box E would also work.  For $500 we expect a TT that will outperform tables like the Orbit Special and Debut Carbon, both dominating the sub-$500 market right now. Yamaha's new turntable line just hit virtual shopping shelves as well

5mV of output, more than doubling that of the DSN-85. Spend just $100 on a Pro-Ject Phono Box pre-amp which Denon recommends on their website and there is yet another improvement. That is when the real potential of this turntable has been unlocked. A $59 Phono Box E would also work

 But even the Marantz TT42 stock cartridge, the 251 S, is a better cartridge. Marantz and Denon both share the same ownership. Couldn't Denon have just adopted the 251 S for this turntable?  On the same token, enthusiast-grade turntables aren't expected to include a cartridge anyway. The idea is that the money the manufacturer could've put into a cartridge went into the TT instead

) sturdy and 2.) allows me to squeeze the turntable into a shelf as shown in the attached photo. That is, I don’t have to fret over needing enough room to flip up an attached dust cover.  My first impression is that Denon designed this to smooth out the wrinkles in the DP-300f, which really wasn’t a bad TT to begin with

 This time Denon included a fully functional clamp integrated into the tone arm rest. So that’s another item checked off the list. A big thank you to Denon for doing that. Also, it’s an S-shaped tonearm, which looks classy

A major improvement over the 300f, and the speed sensor works!

New user, posting my setup. I'm not a dealer, just a long time vinyl collector. Let me know if anyone has questions or comments on my setup. I've got a weekly YouTube channel but I thought I'd start out by sharing my setup first :)

In the end, I decided on the Fluance RT85 because of a couple of items. I was looking to start a bit cheaper, but the Blue 2M cartridge that came on the Fluance was the deciding factor and I am so glad I went this route. The other reasons were the acrylic platter and the physical switch for the 33/45 instead of having to switch the belt like in many similar priced turntables.

So, I am here to confess that after a lot of back and forth, I am pretty confident that I'm going with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO. I'd like to credit u/sharkamino for all of his help. I did some more research and digging. 

I need to get to my local HiFi store. They're basically down to the P1 and the Evo. 

Now, I'm moving on to pre-amps/integrated receivers. 

Down the rabbit hole I go!
