5-by-12.8-inch patch on your desk. The box has a similarly diminutive under-10-inch height. The biggest surprise, though: This Mini-ITX chassis lets you pack some very serious componentry in a seriously small space

Mind you, we won&rsquo;t be blaming Corsair for having noisy fans, as most people won&rsquo;t be using this case with an overclocked processor in our extreme test conditions: while running Prime95 small-FFTs and FurMark simultaneously. These particular fans are also known for winding down nicely when less-stressed systems are configured with automatic fan control. This is just a (very) worst case scenario.

But get the right mix, and this chassis will vie with the Streacom DA2 V2 as one of our favorite Mini-ITX chassis for tricked-out builds. And it won't cost you half of what the DA2 V2 will.

 The $35 difference between these cable options is hardly marginal on a case model that has a US base price of $120, so you'll want to be sure you really need the 4. (We will be expanding our testing pool in coming months.) So, for now, we tested the A4-H2O against itself in closed-panel and open-panel configurations to see how well it would contain noise and let out heat.

 The same goes for the noise output. As you can see we also tested with an NVIDIA reference cooling, a GTX 1080 Founders Edition to complement our testing. Moving to the other room. Now this is where it gets tricky

 Because the CPU cooler height must be under 48mm, it seemed that choosing the CryoRig C7 which has 47mm would be the perfect candidate. But when used with the side panel, that 1mm of clearance creates turbulences. This is not a case's fault per se, but something to consider. Another great option is the Noctua L9i at only 37mm in height, thus it will eliminate that problem altogether

 Everything mentioned is perforated for cooling advantages. We discovered that the feet are pretty slippery on glass tables, so do take notice of that. For storage we used an M.2 SSD from Samsung, the 950 Pro for maximum elegance

An expensive choice, but one that comes with stellar build quality and quality materials throughout the case as we go through our overview, just so you know. Starting with the front of the case, we have a reserved aesthetic with only two things breaking through the solid brushed aluminum panel

DAN Cases A4-SFX Review - Size matters ;)

 The structure and build quality of the A4 SFX truly is up there with the best, and that's largely due to using Lian Li as their manufacturer, who, as we know, make very premium enclosures. The design is a sandwich-based layout, where we've got the motherboard and power supply on one side, and the graphics card on the other. They're separated by a frame in the middle, which is also covered by an insulating sheet on the GPU side, so there's no shorts. This compartmentalized design is made possible by a high-quality Lian Li riser cable that is now, thankfully, black with version 3 of the A4, and this thing feels super durable and likely will last decades to come

 at all, I think this is sufficient for a small case, especially when you are restricted with space on the other side of the panel. The power button has also been improved for V3, and is now a bit more tactile to press, and the power plug is positioned thankfully towards the bottom of the case. The top and front panel are also a single sheet, which has been precisely cut and bent, again showing the attention to detail and build quality.  The Corsair Dominator Platinum memory modules that I initially installed were just a hair too tall though, the side panel still closed but it certainly wasn't a clean fit. Another consideration is that, if possible, choose a mini-ITX board with an M.2 slot not on the back of the motherboard, I found thermals here to be pretty unreasonable since the drive will be trapped between the board and the tray. My 960 EVO NVMe drive was idling, had a toasty 72 degrees C and was throttling at 90 C during sequential writes

 The top and front panel are also a single sheet, which has been precisely cut and bent, again showing the attention to detail and build quality. Standing next to the M1, you can tell that they're both manufactured by the same company, and in terms of size, the DEN A4 is definitely smaller, but it's probably not a significant amount to a lot of people. For those that need their desktop system to be as portable as possible though, which is arguably a minority, the DEN A4 can comfortably fit in a backpack, which is pretty insane. Even for those who don't need a portable system at all though and are fine with a laptop when it comes to portability, me including, I really do appreciate that the A4 SFX doesn't claim half of your desk space when it meets the rest of your setup, like a typical mid-tower case

Dan A4-SFX - 7.2L of Excellence!

1. Alpenfohn Black Ridge requires some thought to get the orientation right - 4 ways it can go.

3. The cooler leaves gaps to MOBO so when screws are tightened to take up the gap the MOBO bends slightly, leaving screws loose is not a good idea - needs spacers to take up gap. Different MOBOs will have different gaps. Suggest studs on cooler with a selection of tubular spacers and metal backplate would be a better design, using nuts for tightening

5. PS cables too long, custom cables would allow much easier cable management (and better airflow). Two 8 pin PCIe power cable ends is dreadful, only need one, and should be 8 pin, not 6+2.

 Different MOBOs will have different gaps. Suggest studs on cooler with a selection of tubular spacers and metal backplate would be a better design, using nuts for tightening.

The cooler works well but I think half the cooling is from conduction of heat to the side panel, does not feel like much convection is happening. Will do something to improve airflow later, shorter custom cables and a home made fan tray with perimeter seal to sit the case on - air blowing up through the bottom of the case.

Great case easy to build

 So let's talk about the good. The case is extremely easy to handle. All of the exterior panels are toolless with those Lian Li pushpins and thumb screws at the back. And everything that is attached to the frame has the same screw, avoiding any confusion when it comes to building the case back together

 And the side panels are not a significant barrier, as you can see. On the GPU side, it is also very well controlled because of the exhaust. So no heat gets trapped inside that GPU chamber. And this is really impressive because the case is tiny and all the cooling is achieved with those two 120 millimeter fans

The Formd T1 is always a sexy case and is probably the winner, but you knocked it out of the park with the customizations on that H1.

NZXT H1 or Formd T1 - which case do you like more?

 All of the parts here are CNC'd aluminium that has been sandblasted and anodized and the first impressions of the quality here is seriously solid. There is a user manual available but at this point it does need a lot of work and it is missing quite a few steps. Hopefully this gets ironed out before actual release. So first you want to unbox pretty much everything or you can leave them in their assigned slots and boxes

 When we compare the same 120mm liquid cooler being used in other cases like the Circle Pro and the Thawzone Mjolnir, we're looking at about a 7 degree C improvement by moving to the T1. GPU thermals are respectable also, and again they were better in the flipped orientation, so although the case is kind of designed around having the fans at the bottom, thermals and noise levels will be much better by having the case flipped with the fans at the top. There aren't any big drawbacks by doing this, there's not going to be any upside down logos or USB ports, and the case looks just as clean in both orientations. The only slight drawback is that the power plug will now be at the top of the case instead of below it, but that doesn't really bother me personally

 The entire case has been flat packed and needs to be put together and at first I sort of cringed at this idea but it does reduce the cost a little and the assembly process is actually quite rewarding. If you've heard about this case before, then you'll know that it is exceptionally high quality.  Build quality and finish is as good as it gets, it's extremely well ventilated which makes it suitable for high-end systems, and the price, although high, is definitely competitive against similar options like the Ghost S1. The Sidearm T1 should be available around the $200 mark, but as I've said in previous videos, consistent availability of these cases is the bigger issue. The first batch of this case will be hugely successful without a doubt, I just hope that moving forward larger and more frequent batches will be produced. Because at the end of the day, whether you choose a T1 or a Ghost S1, an NK-SAM1 or a Streakom DA2 will probably come down to which one is just in stock at the time
