My mid 2012 MacBook Pro was beginning to run real slow. Emails would take forever to open, more than two tabs open everything would crawl.  That being said, if you're planning on a rebuild down the line, there's no harm in putting the FireCuda 520 in a Gen 3 slot for now, and then carrying that SSD forward when you go to rebuild. However, if you're building a new machine on a Gen 4 motherboard, you'll definitely want to get a Gen 4 SSD to maximize the performance. Remember, if you put a Gen 3 SSD into a Gen 4 motherboard alongside all of your other Gen 4 components, you'll still be limited by that Gen 3 speed. So whether you're just gaming or putting a little bit of extra stress on your machine by streaming or capturing, you'll want to make sure that your storage device isn't the source of any of your performance bottlenecks

 The FireCuda 520 has max sequential read speeds of up to 5000MBps, compared to the FireCuda 510 at 3450MBps. The FireCuda 520 has max sequential write speeds of 4400MBps, versus the FireCuda 510 at 3200MBps. And note that your PCIe Gen 3 motherboard can easily read and write to the Gen 4 FireCuda 520 SSD. You'll just be limited to the max speeds of your Gen 3 motherboard

 Remember, if you put a Gen 3 SSD into a Gen 4 motherboard alongside all of your other Gen 4 components, you'll still be limited by that Gen 3 speed. I need the Seagate Seagate FireCuda 510 1TB NVME because I'm looking to expand my current storage! Video editing and content creation has pushed my current storage to its limits.

New computer build. Compared this to several drives including the popular Addlink model. Although the price of the Addlink was very competitive, I decided to go with Seagate because of brand reliability/recognition should any warranty issues pop up. In addition, Addlink provides no utilities or software of their own for monitoring status of drive nor for copying/backing up. To me those were justified in the increase pricing but I see no issues with the Addlink series
