I'm now just waiting for the new humidifier to come in. At this point, I down rated it from 4 stars to 3 because of the noise. It was quiet for awhile but became really noisy later on the more I used it. *****Update 12/21/2011***** I received my new humidifier today and it's a newer model

Wow, this unit is so much quieter than what it replaced. While we personally like the white noise, this unit is super quiet and I would recommend on that aspect if that's your thing. Humidity and controls. I will update the post after a full month of usage but so far this is putting out a ton of humidity and I estimate a full 3 gallons in under 24 hours which is great for our home's needs

I don't know how often the dvd was accessed but the next day, same issue. Cleaned the disk, it still would not read the disk. This game has two disks so I tried the second one which was clean. It would not read the disk

I recommend you purchase the washable/reusable humidifier wicks otherwise you’ll go broke buying the brand name paper ones. I have to wash wicks every 3 weeks to keep them working well. If you don’t keep the wicks clean they stop absorbing water and fan runs but no humidity.

You also don't want to place the humidifier on the carpet or a towel. This is because the fan vent is on the bottom of the humidifier. By placing it on the carpet (or a towel) you stand a chance of blocking the vent and the humidifier over heating. In an effort to avoid placing the humidifier on a wood surface (or a towel)

The manufacturer advised that the non-removable grate was designed that way for "safety" reasons, but the result is a serious danger to the health of our family from running a dirty or moldy humidifier. At the moment, I'm considering putting waterproof tape over the dials, then turning the housing upside down and soaking it, grate downward, in vinegar solution 3 or 4" deep, i.e. not reaching the actual mortar

The size of the vapor droplets must be small enough or the unit may add moisture but not really help with breathing (according to my doctor). Whether for personal use or whole room it did not seem to do much for me other than perhaps add moisture to a dry environment. Make sure you have appropriate table and filter or distilled water. My other unit (for my room) has only slightly larger capacity and is warm mist and I feel like it uses less water. Edit 04/05/18: My toddler has recently managed to pull off the control cap.

I bought this exact model in the beginning of 2020 and was happy with it, but it wasn't enough for the space I used it in, and if you have hard water like I do, the filters become expensive, even in bulk if you can get them. I bought a second humidifier in the fall of 2020, but they changed the plastic for the tanks. The first one has clear blue plastic, easy to see through and easy to handle. The newer one has pale gray opaque textured plastic tanks which makes it much harder to see where the water level is while top filling because it is the same color as the water and harder to see through

While you can take the base apart and fiddle around with the fan that makes the noise; the respite from the noise usually lasts only a few days (or even just a few hours). I took mine apart, blew out the dust, lubricated the fan, and within a couple hours it was making noise again. And to be clear, it's not a tolerable noise. It is VERY loud, and the only way to stop it is to whack the base until it stops

The high and medium speeds a a tad noisy and why I knocked one star off the overall rating. The wicking filters need to be changed on a regular basis and is not a big deal.

About 1/2 way? I live In a cold house with a supplemental oil enclosed electric radiator to warm up my bedroom. Cold mist makes it feel colder. This unit is really adjustable! Starting with the positives, the wick works great, the unit on low is very quiet, you can’t hear the unit running from 10 feet away and on high is only marginally louder but the hum carries through the house at night when there is no other noises. Great concept with top fill, makes it easier to fill, just set the tank in the sink and fill, the short legs keep it upright. We also occasionally top off the tanks by adding to them without removing them. Now the not so good stuff: We have had a malfunction of a tank valve and it emptied the entire tank causing the unit to overflow and we ended up with water dripping from the rafters in the basement

If you want to run this humidifier for long periods of time and are worried about the water running out, don't order the white/blue model because it produces more steam and therefore depletes the water level sooner. The all white model is more conservative with the water. However, if you have a larger space, then I think the heavier steam flow of the white/blue is helpful. For reference I use the all white model in an approx 11' x 13' bedroom and the white/blue in an 11' x 16' room
