OMG!!! I just received/tried on this jacket and I am so impressed!! The fit is perfect. I would say use the size chart. Only order up a size if you plan on layering more than a couple thin shirts and you are at the top end of the measurements for that size. I am only one inch off (more) in the waste measurement and fit inside the measurements for the rest and the large fit me perfectly! The lining is crazy looking but I like it and it will definitely do its job of keeping me warm

Hey, I’m a relatively new camper with exclusively summer experience, but I’m beginning to do shoulder season/early winter backpacking trips as well. 

The issue is, I’m a pretty cold person. Looking at temperatures from 30-40F would it be worth investing in a down layer for warmth in camp vs the fleece that I currently have? And if so, is it worth getting a higher end puffy or are entry level ones okay? I can get an Arcteryx Cerium for about $140 USD but if thats overkill I’d rather just save my money

I currently have a pretty hefty Patagonia fleece and an Atom LT jacket but i wore about their ability to insulate once I stop moving. I feel very overwhelmed by all these choices- please help!

Down vs fleece for backpacking

I personally chose synthetic insulation (Enlightened Equipment Torrid Apex) for a little more wiggle room if my stuff got wet and saw plenty of people using Patagonia Nano/Micro Puffs, Rab Xenons, a variety of lightweight down jackets, etc. Good luck man, it's a big undertaking.

Hello - gearing up for a PCT through hike and after some research decided on an Arcteryx Proton LT Hoodie... I found a killer deal online for it and thought I'd go for that rather than the Atom which most people use as a mid layer. So then next I need to decide what type of rain shell will accompany it but I'm getting a little confused. The proton seems like a fully bonafied jacket already and I'm not sure about adding an additional rain shell ON TOP of it... I know people do it with the Atom but the Proton seems a little beefier. Anyways if anyone on here can give me some advice I'd appreciate it. Should I just stick with the milder Atom and find a rain shell? Or can anyone give me some good rec'd on a good rain shell to pair with the Proton. Thx.

Equipment Torrid Apex Jacket Part (1/2)

Light, high loft, soft and warm! That’s my review of wearing it for 5 minutes while trying it on. 

Unfortunately, the size large was too big for me —- but I always have trouble sizing tops as I am 5’10” with broad shoulders. The Torrid fit well across my chest and back but was too big everywhere else. Since I won’t really need to layer underneath, I exchanged for a medium.
