I did notice that there are some space between the thread and the thread base, so plenty of room to be compatible with other twist-on filers. Lastly, I even tested it out as a water storage bag with about 1 liter of water in my back for a few miles back to the trail head. Initially I experienced some water soaking through the pack and onto my my backside, it appeared to be leaking from the cap, however when I tightened the cap further and no leak for the last mile or so
