 But this Char Griller is great. It's got heavy gauge steel construction and a double bottom for years of use. It's also an airtight flanged hood with a heat gauge, cast iron grates which provide even heat and helps lock in the flavor.  We bought our 1st in a store and had absolutely no problems like we had with this one. Frankly, I think they’re not packaging this larger grill correctly, especially for longer-haul shipment. It clearly needs more protection in the shipping box. I passed these concerns along to Char-Griller, so I hope this will be resolved going forward

 We didn't ask for any new ones because they work, but this is something the company clearly should address somehow. We didn’t have this problem at all in our smaller unit. Also, the spacers for use between the fire box and the grill itself were much too long. Again, others have noted the same problem

 I use a chimney and I can't seem to start a fire without dropping a hot coal on the wooden shelves. The grills are cast iron, not a big deal for me, but they said that fires over 400 degrees will burn off the seasoning. I always grill pretty hot  The neutral: The wheels seem very cheap but I'll call that a push b/c they also seem functional. The charcoal hopper lifts out so ash can be removed easier, but it does get stuck in the grill on top of the hopper, again a push  usability 6 out of 5 This is why I recommend

Like I said in the headline I do recommend it but I wanted to take a little while to give this a proper review. I'm rating this on the things that stuck out to me. Packing 1 out of 5 - This came in a package that looks like it was returned a few times. it was barely a box Quality Assurance 0 out of 5 - the grill had a big dent and the bolts and nuts were just in a bag, it looked like a return that was just shipped out right away

Bottom Line: It's a good grill for the price

 The unit will quickly rust. I find they last just 2 - 3 years (assuming you grill often like I do). The wheels will rust off. The charcoal tray will warp and rust

 Prior to getting the Outlaw (with smoker box attachment) I used the Smokin' Pro. The two grills are identical in design, the Outlaw is just a few inches larger.  These grills offer excellent features. Built in thermometer, adjustable air intake and chimney, external shelves, height adjustable charcoal tray, cast iron grates, Texas offset design, etc

  Unfortunately, the grills are built like crap. The black powder coat will peel off the first time you use the smoker box. The unit will quickly rust. I find they last just 2 - 3 years (assuming you grill often like I do)

 The wheels will rust off. The charcoal tray will warp and rust. That being said, replacing the grill every couple of years is not a hassle, and I love the features so much that I cannot see a reason to spend $1500 on a awesomely built grill when I can just buy one of these for around $200 a pop every few years. Additionally, you can get replacement part easily, so keeping the grill functional over time isn't too bad

  These grills offer excellent features. Built in thermometer, adjustable air intake and chimney, external shelves, height adjustable charcoal tray, cast iron grates, Texas offset design, etc. Everything I want in a grill.  The grill performs well

 Part of me wants to give it two or three stars because the instructions are garbage, you're going to have damaged parts and customer service is fairly poor... they're not impolite; just

  I called Char-Griller at the number listed on the user manual and got a recorded message as it was after their business hours. They're open from 8:30AM-5:00PM, M-F and they're in Georgia. I'm in Colorado, so the two-hour difference is what got me. To me, this isn't an issue; in fact, their message left me with the impression that they're a smaller company, which I prefer and I honestly think it would be ridiculous to expect 24/7 tech support for a grill

 Quite frankly, the instructions are pretty poor. The photographs are such poor quality, they provide no help whatsoever. The instructions are generally okay, but be prepared to just figure some stuff out for yourself. If you get the side box, the instructions are for a different model and the manual you download ends up being garbage

 Before we begin, for all you fellow barbecue geeks out there, let me set the scene with a quick backstory to the evolution of PK grills. In the early 1950s, Hilton Maggs of Tyler, Texas made what many considered to be the perfect charcoal barbecue grill.  I know there are plenty of reviews out there on the PK360, but I thought I'd offer my take on it.

 For the record, I haven't been paid, bribed or coerced in any way into making this video.

 I'm just a barbecue enthusiast with a love of cooking over smoke and fire and an appreciation for good design.

 I bought the PK360 online without seeing one up close in person from the good people at Pro Smoke Barbecue.

 So I recommend you go and check them out.

 Now, if like me, you live miles from your nearest PK dealer, definitely keep watching as I'll give you a detailed overview and a closer look at the PK360.

 Before we begin, for all you fellow barbecue geeks out there, let me set the scene with a quick backstory to the evolution of PK grills.

 In the early 1950s, Hilton Maggs of Tyler, Texas made what many considered to be the perfect charcoal barbecue grill.

 He designed and manufactured a cast aluminium grill and smoker, calling it the Portable Kitchen, and sold it out of the back of his car in the American Mid-South.

 The company was purchased from Maggs in 1958 and manufacturing moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where it remained until fire and business issues stopped production in the mid-1970s.

 No PK grills were produced for nearly three decades, but the durability of this charcoal grill ensured that thousands still existed in perfect working order.

 Then in 1998, local attorney and grill enthusiast Paul James discovered a portable kitchen charcoal grill and smoker at a yard sale.

 He was so impressed by the grill and smoker, he purchased the Portable Kitchen name and began producing sparkling new aluminium PK grills from castings of the original product.

 Almost 45 years to the day after the first portable kitchen grill popped out of its mould in Tyler, Texas, PK was back in business in Little Rock with the PK grill and smoker.
