Newly Gadgets

 This is the main downfall of this grill. Mandatory burn-off/scraping/brushing/oiling of the grate after each use is ridiculous. I love how quickly this cooks and the great flavor, but the required care is pushing me back to my old low-maintenance grill. Oh, and the ignitor on unit this quit after a few months use :^(

GREAT CONCEPT, POOR EXECUTION

 Living in a multi-floor home, it got cumbersome to lug all of my cooking utinsels, sauces, and food to grill downstairs to the big grill, especially for cooking for 2 people. But, when I did, I can’t ever remember a time where I didn’t wait for the big boy to heat up to at least 500 to grill. I don’t do low and slow on a grill. If I wanted that, I’d use my smoker or the oven

 The other comments on the grease holes in the grate clogging up are true too. I now have a better grill brush that I use on it after cooking, but about 3-4 cooks in, I find I have to take the grate out and give it a wash. Again, not terrible, but not the lowest maintenance compared to porcelain coated cast iron grates.  Summary: kinda sucks that I had to get an aftermarket regulator and get a maintenance routine for this grill

The Good and The Bad...

It does not matter how good a product is, if it is a grill and if it does not light/burn/cook, it is a shelf decoration only. Camping and ready to cook the main meal, but the grill does not work.

Don't waste your money. You cannot cook on this. There is only one temperature setting and it is blowtorch hot.

 Just add wood chips and seasoned meat and your all set. Wonderfull taste with that smoked flavor. Would not be with out either one.

OUTSTANDING BBQ & SMOKER

I bought this to downsize from my original weber Q and also get something that operated better at higher elevations. The weber has a much large grill surface then I typically need and struggles to stay hot when used over 8,000'

 Here you can see, it's got the vents on the both sides, it's got the smoke stack and it's got the temperature gauge built in. So you got some burgers cooking on there already and it's kind of big. So you got plenty of room as you can see. The charcoal sits on its own little crate down in there and it's adjustable height by this little crank, so you can have the charcoal closer to your food or farther away, which is going to be really useful

Dyna-Glo premium 32” charcoal grill review and walkthrough

 I have already modified the damper on the hood to close all the way. Now I have to modify the two side dampers to seal up completely so I can smother the coals a little more to reduce the inside heat. With just a few coals this thing gets around 500 degrees. So it does burn very efficiently

  *Update* So it's been a little while now since I have upgraded the grill. I put a heat resistant seal(for only a few dollars) around the base of the lid and used a lava rock RTV sealant to completely seal off one of the side dampers. Now I can really control the heat. I can keep it as low as 200 degrees, if I want, by closing everything off

This grill is very nice and has some very useful features. The reason I am giving this grill 3 stars, is because it gets very hot, with all dampers in closed position and with the fire set to the lowest position away from the food, it still burns.  I seem to go through more charcoal with this grill than with other grills I have owned, and it doesn't seem to retain heat as well. The removable ash pan is a bit cumbersome to empty, and doesn't feel very sturdy.  I do like the features of the sliding cooking grates and the crank handle which will raise or lower the coals from the cooking surface. Both are very convenient features

 (3) The material used for the DG is thinner steel than is used in the Outlaw, so in general it won't last as long, especially given my biggest complaint, which is... (4) The tray that is meant to catch the ashes, about 1" deep covering the entire bottom of the grill, fills with water every time it rains (I have not yet tried to rig up a cover for the chimney which does not fully close

  Reading other reviews, I agree that the gap between the lid and the body of the grill is too large. It does make it burn a bit hot (though different lump charcoals seem to react more intensely to the increased airflow I've found) but generally speaking it's fine. I'll be putting on some oven gasket (or maybe even aluminum foil?) to help seal it a bit better. The side vents have been fine for me and do help control the fire intensity (again this will be improved with the better seal on the lid)

That said, the arrangement of the grill plates is clever as you can slide things around to move them on and off the heat. I'm actually experimenting at the moment of placing the coals directly in the center (rather than on one end) so that I can have two grill plates slide over the heat as needed

 Just pulling out the ash tray and toss it out.  Access to Fire Box: Getting to the charcoals is so much easier with this than my old Okalahoma knockoff. The firebox lid is one easy access point, but the grills themselves are designed to slide around so you do not have to take them off to add new coals (though you may have to move your food around).  Overall Ultimately it is light years a head of my old Grill for a decent price even with the gasket and Food Grade Sealant modifications

A Solid Grill with mods

 Both were easy to fix.  Cooking: Cooking on this grill proved to be a great experience! I managed to grill up more than enough food for 20 people in about three hours. You can put a lot of food in this grill! I had ribs on a rack, a bunch a chicken thighs on the grill and about 20 sausages on the warming rack! The hickory blocks gave the food a great flavor! Charcoal grill for the win once again!  Clean up after grilling was easy. Just pull out the bottom ash tray and dump the ashes
