I actually thought it was boring at first as I didn't have a clear grasp of the mechanics yet. After re-reading the rules and playing games a couple more times I slowly came to realize this game is deep in strategy, and even if you're dealt the same set of cards you can approach the game from different angles.  

I considered other TTR games good for 2 players too but most were expansions so I chose this one instead. Moreover, my girlfriend liked the artwork, the train colors and the Christmas theme better than other titles. The routes are also easy to distinguish in contrast to the white terrain.  

You'll also develop some strategy and intuition as you play more games; when to bet, when to back down, when to shift tiles, and when to commit to a winning or losing camel.  

Here's our collection about 3 months after, and my thoughts after playing each title for about 20 times:

 If you like strategy games, you will like this. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is there are often times where it is not going well for at least one person in the game and this can be VERY frustrating. If your family is overly competitive, you may want to consider a different game.

A great game of strategy and some luck. The design of the game ensures that there are variations to the game every time, so you don't get sick of the game quickly. All this, and then of course, young people. 8-16 year olds adore the Munchkin system. One of the best parts of playing board games for them is ruining someone else's plan, or stopping a friend or parent from winning. That is the fun part, and they aren't thinking even a little about the mechanics involved

Over the past couple weeks I've been sorting through my board games. Checking on components, rules sheets, making sure everything is organized and things are logged properly on BGG. Today I pulled out my box of Munchkin. A game that I probably haven't played in 8-10 years. A few years ago I had bought one of the boxes that holds several collections. Mine now holds Bites, Super Space, blender, Adventure Time and their respective expansions. 

Munchkin for my group of friends was one of the games that got my group of friends really into "board gaming." What munchkin promises is a wacky adventure full of weird monsters and zany loot. We played it a ton and there were a lot of dramatic and ruckus power struggles. But then after awhile all the games seemed to just end in nuking 1 person only for the next person in line to anticlimactically win because everyone was not out of cards. It just lost its dazzle. 

We even tried to blend Bites, Super and Space together. But at that point the decks got too big that things can get weighted in a way where all the weak or powerful monsters are together, or no one is getting any useful loot. 

But now I sit looking at the box and I can feel the call to adventure. The promise of Loot, fighting monsters and coming out as the top adventurer. But in the back of my head there is a voice telling me its just going to end in an anticlimactic victory. 

But it must be fun, *right*? When you go to your local game store there are dozens of versions of munchkin. There's always some new set or expansion adding fun new flavor to your mix up. But then I'm just reminded of the giant unwieldy Blended deck. Do people really mix dozen of expansions together only to play a lopsided game where you might never see some of the expansions? Or do they curate the deck each time to have a good weight and show off the flavor of the week. 

***But it must be fun, right***? Theres so many expansions and versions, people must be playing it and having a good time right? And I realized, maybe this game isn't for me. Or at least not my gaming group. Too many players in my gaming group are hard core min maxers. But you know who would enjoy munchkin, the new friends I've been making as an adult, the ones who are starting to be interested in board games. Not the ones who play 12hr Talisman sessions. The ones who are still discovering the call of Adventure and loot. So maybe once meet ups are safe again, I'll dust off munchkin and invite them to kick down the door.

I want to talk about Munchkin.

Good, but half of the pieces had some black stuff on them that wouldn't come off. We didn't know what it was and even cleaned them in a bleach solution. Still stained. But other than that everything was perfect!

 Secondly, you're throwing more money after bad; Catan is already overpriced (MSRP: $55.00, but usu seasonally averaging $32 or $46) plus then either of the two commonly recommended/overpriced expansions of Cities & Knights (MSRP: $55.00, but usu seasonally averaging $37 or $43) or Seafarers Expansion (MSRP: $55.00, but usu seasonally averaging $36 or $44)

 I've seen a player there, & they were so frustrated, I never saw them board game again.  The "robber" makes a bad game worse by having the players attack one another..

Most Over-Hyped BoardGame of the Modern BoardGame Era .. Please Avoid & Don't Use as an Intro Game

Ever version of Catan has gotten worse and worse in my opinion. And not just the board pieces. Renaming the soldier to knight after already having a different knight piece with a different mechanism of play in Cities & Knights expansion was such a poor decision.

Inspired by  [u/tarzan15](https://www.reddit.com/user/tarzan15/)s post, what is a boardgame you own or have played that had a board which you did not like at all? Be it because of the material used, the size, art or whatever. It still can be a game you really like and play often (I think that might be the case most of the time, because if you like the game, these kinds of flaws are even more annoying).

* I think I'll go with **Pandemic**, because most of the city names aren't even close to their real location (yes I know that the location is marked, but still...). 
* **Medici** just looks terrible in my opinion, which can really be a decisive point in wether to buy a game or not. And for me, that would be a clear no.
* **The Quest for El Dorado** may not be terrible in any category, but bad in many. The pieces feel cheap and the art, especially the "coin spaces", look kinda silly (also, even though its not about the board, why would you use small cards for a deckbuilding game?). It's a great game, but damn it could be even better.

Your least favourite board of all boardgames in your collection?

We're not exactly dummies in my house but we couldn't figure out after two nights the rules of the game. My brother and his wife enjoy the game so much that we gave it a try. It's in the garage to go off with the next load to Goodwill. Hopefully to a family smarter than us will get it

I love it! It looks true to the natural theme of Catan and doesn't go too far out. Quality looks fantastic as well!

  As for the game itself, Catan offers a great balance between strategy and competitive gameplay. While luck is almost always a factor in boardgames and Catan is not the exception (dice rolling involved), the game feels more guided and affected by your strategy and decisions rather than by luck, which is good, since this makes the game more compelling and adds weight to the decisions that you make throughout the game. There is also a trading component that allows you to interact with the other players, which is great for stirring some fun arguments and debates. While this game has a competitive approach, it doesn't pit the players against each others through direct confrontation (which is welcomed if you are not looking for an aggressive game where everyone ends up mad at each other), it plays more like a race in which you need to focus on your strategy while keeping watch of the opponents and overall it is extremely fun

Me and my husband enjoy playing board games and we were not new to Catan, in fact, it has been one of our favorite games since we got into the board game world. We already owned the "Settlers" and "Rivals" versions of Catan and when we learned of the Black Friday deals on board games, we decided it was the time to have our own version of this game as well (especially since we used to play with some friends and their copy, so us recently moving into another city also played as a factor to buy it).  As for the game itself, Catan offers a great balance between strategy and competitive gameplay.  With a board game that requires parental oversight to be usable, it's either too guided to learn by trial-and-error, or it becomes frustrating quickly and the kids give up.  I hate that this review sounds so harsh since I truly love what this game is trying to do but I just don't see it working well because of how much parental oversight it requires. Note: I had my daughters try out web-based computer teaching games and they took to it much quicker and could solve problems they struggled with on the board game.

Good if you have the time to work with your kids on it, not so much for self-play

 But anyway getting off on a tangent those are the real cons I have not going to be for big strategy gamers or gaming groups or anything like that this is purely for kids. Moving on to the pros though Robot Turtles I saw it on Kickstarter which it absolutely tore up Kickstarter and they instantly appealed to my heart I'm a preschool teacher they said this is for ages 3 and up and I was like I'm getting a copy of this game I got it I brought it in my classroom and let me tell you this game went over like gangbusters they loved it they went crazy for this game it got to the point where I said alright I'm not bringing it in for a week because I'm sick of playing it with you guys because they wanted to play it so much. They're all aged from 3 to 5 and you can definitely see one thing I loved about this game was you can make it more or less complex based on how advanced the children are but a lot of the times I would have 3 year olds playing and I would have 5 year olds playing and I could set up the 5 year old side of the board to be more tricky and I could set up the 3 year old side of the board to be pretty clear and it really adds a nice deal of customization there so you can really play this with children anywhere from I'd say ages 3 to 6, 7 and you're kind of pushing it. They're going to have a lot of fun with this game

 Next, you are going to have stone walls and you are going to have ice walls. Now the stone walls, once you set them there, they are an obstacle. You slap and you say bug and that means that you get to redo your maneuver so let's pretend you turn this way you get to redo that so you move it back and then you can take the yellow card and move that. But any who you are going to try and get to your gem and once everyone has got to their gem you can all have a big old hug and say hooray Billy you got your turtle to your gem because turtles need gems
