 Now you may be watching this video and thinking to yourself well actually those videos look pretty good and you're right it's a really good lens it has really good optical quality but that's not the point the point is hand holding this even with ibis as you see right here is a little shaky now video is your thing and you have a serious rig okay maybe this would be recommended but for most handheld people yeah I don't think so as I ran around with it the only thing that really went through my head is having a lighter lens like an rf 24 to 70 is I'm not really sure this is one of those situations where the 2.0 aperture really outshines the practicality of a smaller and lighter lens so I'm going to leave you with my final thoughts on rf 28 to 70 while you browse through my favorite shots I've taken with this lens the zoom lenses have always had the reputation of being good at everything but not perfect at anything if you wanted the sharpness if you wanted the bokeh you'd always have to go grab your primes the 28 to 70 is not perfect and it doesn't achieve this across the board but canon made a giant leap from the zoom lens to the zoom lens which is the on the zoom lens market I want to thank dj titan for letting me film his set as well as provide the music for today's episode my final thought is this if you're looking for an awesome zoom lens that's gonna kick ass and kate names look no further you

 So who is this lens for? You're talking about f2 from 28 all the way to 70. That is a really unique design. Now the reason why you're even able to do this is because back in the day when you had DSLRs and you had a mirror and all that you couldn't design a lens like this because of flange distances and things like that. If you're sensitive to weight I don't recommend this lens I'm just going to say it right now it is a pain in the ass to shoot with this lens all day if you're sensitive to weight if you have back problems if you have tennis elbow if you have shoulder issues this is not the lens for you

8 or even an EF24-72.8. I'm going to say right off the bat that you probably shouldn't compare these two lenses because in my opinion they're not made for the same photographer. I'll do an in-depth review on the 24-70mm versus the 28-70mm at a later date but I want to make sure that I get off my chest that this is a specialist lens that's intended for a specific type of photographer whereas a 24-70mm f2

 Once again another con the price on this the price on this is super expensive 3200 dollars that's a big investment for somebody to make I would say if you're not a professional photographer this might be a bit of a stretch for you to pay for that's a lot of money if you're a hobbyist but hey it's your money. Another con of this lens is there is no is there's no image stabilization so if you have an r5 or an r6 you have the in-body stabilization which claims up to five stops I don't think that's technically true I think it's closer to three but another thing to keep in mind is if you're shooting this lens at f2 and you're outdoors and you're keeping your shutter speed up do you really need image stabilization in the first place I will absolutely not recommend this for video you have to get some really amazing gimbal and you think about a cage and handle and a tomos ninja and all these other things that you'd have to put on a cage or even a gimbal and you're talking about an incredibly heavy setup I don't recommend this at all for video. Canon RF28-70 Review - 2 Years of Picture Examples

The one thing I dislike about this lens is the weight: however, it was not enough to discourage me from writing this review: The image quality is superb, and the fact that I can replace a bunch of lenses and still keep an F2 constant aperture makes it worth while. If you are on the fence about this lens, I suggest you rent it and see for yourselves. Its definitely a keeper for me.

4 with me I find myself mostly using the zoom. Bokeh and subject isolation is excellent @f/2.0 and easily rivals many cheaper primes. Its sharp from wide open on a R-body

 To me its overall excellent optical quality and the ability to have a zoom going all the way to f/2.0 outweighs the missing mm's at the wide end. Build quality fully matches the optics and price. Functionally its somewhat large

 Some people will be unhappy that it lacks the 24-28mm range. It may sound marginal to some people but it does make a difference in real life shooting. To me its overall excellent optical quality and the ability to have a zoom going all the way to f/2.0 outweighs the missing mm's at the wide end

Canon's revolutionary zoom lens

 If you see that and you shoot video or you want to get filters you're going to have to spend a lot of money because the filter thread is 95 millimeters. Now in terms of price it's $2,999 that is super expensive especially when you compare it to something brand new like the 24 to 70 2.8 version 2 that's $1,699. Now neither of these lenses are IS, the 28 to 70 doesn't have IS and this lens doesn't have IS and the EOS R doesn't have in body stabilization

 Jared Polin, froknowsphoto.com and this is a review of this lens. Well, you're going to have to use your imagination but this is a review of the Canon 28-70 F2 RF lens. Now we had that lens for a couple of weeks but we had to send it back to Canon because we were using a pre-production model but the pre-production lens was so damn good that I can't see that the production models will be worse than what we already used

5 to give yourself a little more leeway. The autofocus on this lens was tremendous. There's really not much about this lens that I don't like and as a professional photographer pairing this with the 11 to 24 F4 and then the 28 to 70 F2 and a 70 to 200 2.8 that is your trinity of lenses though you are missing four millimeters which I wish I could borrow from somewhere else because a little bit more length or girth would totally help most of us out because every little bit counts as I've heard a few times before in my past

This is my far one of the best lenses I have ever had the experience of using. My only issue is the cost which for a standard zoom seems to be absolutely ridiculous.

Great Lens Not So Great Price

 I'm wedding and portrait photographer Vanessa Joy, and we are going to talk about the Canon RF 28-70mm f2.0 lens. This thing is a beast. All right, so getting into all of these specs, which we do want to talk about the specs, but I promise you I'm going to show you how I actually used it and give you a hands-on review of this lens, because I don't just want to read you a spec sheet

 So long story short, this little darling, or rather this really big darling, oh my gosh, that is, this, it is like, this is how I do my shoulder exercises. This is crazy. So, not for the faint of heart, but you know what, do you even lift, bro? But it's a great lens, it really is. It's definitely one that I am happy to have kind of on loan for quite some time now

 It's a hefty price, but I think it's worth it. I think this is probably, if you are shooting mirrorless, this is the best lens that you can get that'll give you that versatility. It'll lighten your, even though it's a heavy lens, it'll lighten your bag because it's replacing essentially three different lenses. Nice little aperture, zoom lens, I can't say enough about it

 Now I actually like this new look it's a little bit more sleek and it's a little bit more subtle although this is a very big lens. Now on one side here you've got a lockable switch just to prevent simply zooming so if you lock it here you can lock it at 28mm. If you unlock it you can zoom from 28 to 70 it's just designed to prevent creeping. And then on the other side here is your autofocus to manual focus switch

 Now as I've previously mentioned this is a revolutionary lens. Now traditionally most lenses zoomed from 24 to 70 and offering an aperture of F2. Now again this lens isn't designed for the faint-hearted it's designed for the very professional wedding and event photographers out there that price isn't really negotiable it doesn't really matter you're after the best of the best and if you're after the best of the best with honours then this lens is definitely going to be the one for you but if you're an amateur photographer stay well away because this is going to drain your bank account and you're going to need to remortgage your house to buy this lens so overall I'm not going to be scoring it very high because to be honest I don't think anyone can afford it even a professional photographer so very expensive so I'm only going to be giving it a 3 out of 10 for size and weight. So it's that time of the video again guys where we get to talk about the pros and cons to firstly work out if it will fit in your camera bag but is it worth a spot in your camera bag let's find out by firstly looking at the pros of this lens

The AF-S Nikkor 35mm F1.8G DX is a lens which certainly caused a degree of dismay on its release, with many Nikon fans disappointed by the decision to make it compatible with the DX format only. However the main benefit of that decision is plain for all to see - even at its introductory price the lens costs rather less than the venerable AF-Nikkor 35mm F2.0D, despite the addition of an AF-S motor to allow autofocusing on Nikon's entry-level D40 / D40X / D60 bodies. It's also less than half the price of the few other DX format standard primes currently on the market (such as the Pentax 35mm F2.8 Macro, Tokina 35mm F2.8 Macro and Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM), so Nikon has managed with this lens to produce the first genuinely inexpensive (sub-$200) fast standard prime designed specifically for digital SLRs. 

Within this context, the lens's performance is very impressive. It produces finely detailed images at all apertures (although with somewhat low contrast wide open), focuses quickly and accurately, and handles well in a small, light package. In particular, it's much sharper than typical DX standard zooms such as the Nikon AF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 DX VR or Nikon AF-S 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 DX VR. The fast maximum aperture allows pictures to be taken hand-held in low light levels, while maintaining relatively fast shutter speeds to avoid blur from subject motion (a key advantage over image-stabilised, but slow, kit zooms when photographing people without flash indoors). The slightly less tangible aspects of image quality - such as resistance to flare, and the rendition of out-of-focus regions of the frame - are also dealt with nicely. 

If the lens has one major flaw, it is a certain propensity to show chromatic aberration, of both the lateral kind (which can be corrected by the in-camera JPEG processing of the D90 and D300), and the longitudinal (which cannot). To be fair the latter is a pretty well unavoidable with a fast prime, but the 35mm F1.8G DX suffers from it to a rather high degree, and in particular can give some unpleasant purple fringing effects if you're not careful. 

Overall, though, it seems almost churlish to complain about these flaws in a lens so inexpensive, which gives otherwise such fine results. It's good to see Nikon finally addressing the lack of purpose-designed, inexpensive fast primes for DX format DSLRs, and we hope they - and other companies - continue with this trend. As it is the 35mm F1.8G DX is, for its winning combination of high image quality, large maximum aperture and low price, a lens which deserves to be on many a Nikon shooter's shopping list.

Focus is available to 11.8 inches, measured from the image sensor. It doesn't put the lens into macro territory, but with the ability to magnify subjects at 1:6 life-size at its closest focus distance, you can still capture small details&mdash;just not as small as you would with a 1:2 or 1:1 macro lens.

The manual focus ring is a bit of a letdown, though I expect most who use this lens will rely heavily on autofocus. It's a mechanical focus control, so you can adjust focus even if your camera is powered down, but it feels rough when turning. I like to see a focus ring with some resistance for finer control, but not like this. I can practically feel gears turning inside the lens when adjusting the ring, and it creates some noise as it turns, making it less than ideal for manual focus video

There's no image stabilization, nor does Nikon offer any cameras with in-body stabilization at this time. It's not a huge deal for still photography, as you can get a sharp shot with the lens at speeds where subject movement is more of a concern than camera shake. But if you're thinking about the lens for handheld video you'll end up with shaky footage. It's best to use it with a tripod for moving images, and to reach for a lens with stabilization when handholding your camera

8 primes in the 20mm, 24mm, and 28mm. They are small and light, for full-frame lenses, so they'll still pair well with a DX Nikon SLR, but they are more expensive, at $700 and up.

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G Review

8G it is not a stellar performer at higher resolutions (think 24MP DX or 36/46MP FX) when wide open. If you're only shooting f2.8 and higher, that's not really a problem but if you're buying it to be used at f1.8, I'd go with the new S-lens - buy once, cry once

As for the Sigma: It is quite a bit sharper, has less purple fringing, significantly less bokeh fringing (long. CAs). It is heavier and more expensive, but it is a significantly better lens as well.

Nikon 85mm 1. 8G or Sigma 135mm 1.8 Art?

  I also used this lens to try to capture a summer night rocket launch. You need a tripod for that, especially with this lens. Moreover, though: if you can get a clear view from about the launchpad on up, use a regular lens with a bulb release, hold it down from the time you see it take off, and as long as you successfully pre-focused / appropriately pre-configured your shot, you might just end up with an awesome streak shot, without even needing this lens! I recommend that you stop down first (set up the camera with a low-ish f-stop, I think) and practice the approximate timing with your selected aperture before you try this shot. Otherwise the shot will probably be way overexposed

  This lens doesn't have image stabilization. So, even if you could focus it in the dark -- which autofocus mechanisms have trouble doing -- guess what? The image may come out blurry, anyway. I did learn a trick as time went on, though: the kayaks have glow sticks at each end (green on the stern, red on the bow). Focus on one of those, and hold down the AF lock

 This lens can sometimes do pretty well at that. (Other times, like for a streak shot, you can just use a regular lens on a tripod with a bulb release. Depends on your subject and the effect you want.)  3) Experimentation with shallower depths of field (used in portrait photography)

 (Or then set it to manual and don't touch the focus ring, but you could accidentally move it.) Then you can try shooting something around the same distance as the glow stick you focused on.  I also used this lens to try to capture a summer night rocket launch. You need a tripod for that, especially with this lens

NO IMAGE STABILIZATION; beyond that, depends on your style of photography

Other thoughts: I read the reviews regarding this lens on a few reputable sites, and the lens performs and works nicely for an entry level type kit lens.  If you are a beginner or amateur, this would be a nice zoom lens to purchase.  Most people that hobby in photography don't need a top shelf $2000 zoom lens.

Every now and then I'll find that the light is so low that the VR on my old lens would help, but in the vast majority of cases the ability to open up the aperture more than makes up for not having it.  Yes, this lens is prone to some pretty funky chromatic aberration sometimes. It seems especially noticeable in lower-light situations, with wider apertures

 But the difference in the amount of light let through a lens in going from 3.5 to 2.8 is _significant_, let alone going from f3.5 to f1

 Even without VR, the wider aperture on the new lens made a huge difference in our ability to capture sharp photos of our kids, in or out of the house, in a much wider range of light conditions.  Upon seeing the significant difference in the exposure quality of her pictures with the new lens I immediately was beset by technology envy, but since she's the primary photographer in our house and it's merely a hobby for me, I wasn't even going to try justifying the expenditure to buy me one too. So I settled on this lens. It's cheap, small, has a focus motor, and with a few already-noted exceptions, it provides very good images mounted on my Nikon D5100

Great lens for the price

  Pros: - Feels well built - Comes packaged with carrying case, good cap, bayonet style lens hood - Can fit more in the frame - Fast - Captures crisp images with lots of detail - Great in low light, maybe even better than the now older 50mm 1.8D (which by the way does not autofocus unless you have a camera with a focus motor built in) - If I had a camera that did not have a focus motor built in, no problem, this lens has a focus motor built into it - Focusing is SILENT - unlike the 50mm 1.8D, which hunts for focus and is noisy as hell - Manual focus override: a switch on the side of the lens allows you to either manually focus the lens, or to allow for M/A, manual and autofocus. This comes in handy if you want to fine tune your focusing or when shooting video and do not want to rely on the focus motors to handle how and what you focus on as you pan through a scene  Cons: - The bokeh on the 35mm does not really compare to what I've been used to from the 50mm 1
