Canon PIXMA G7020 vs HP DeskJet 3755

A step up from the Editors' Choice-winning Pixma G6020 MegaTank, Canon's Pixma G7020 Wireless MegaTank All-in-One ($329.99) is a cartridge-less (bulk-ink) multifunction inkjet designed for printing and copying a few hundred pages per month in a home or small office. Like most lower-end bulk-ink models (Including Canon's MegaTank, Epson's EcoTank, and HP's Smart Tank Plus brands), this one prints well, if a little slowly. And it churns out both black and color pages for under 1 cent each, making it a terrific value for those with moderate print and copy needs (say, between 300 and 500 pages a month)

Based on our testing, overall text quality is average for an inkjet, with average text quality, sub-par graphics, and above-par photo quality. For the four standard fonts in our test suite, it was better than usual for an inkjet, while it had problems with with the three more exotic fonts in the suite. As long as you stick to commonly used fonts, you should be fine.

Definitely get what you pay for! I barely print and ink lasts only about 6 weeks and I get the xl. Have bought ink 3 times since March and don’t use printer much, maybe a few sheets a month. Disappointed.

I did receive the replacement printer. It took slightly longer, but it did arrive, so here is the update review. I was able to set the replacement printer up as with the first one and connect to my laptop and phone just fine. This time I had no problems printing with it

Unfortunately, this feature was disabled by default (at least on this printer). When I tried to register I kept getting a rather innocuous error. After a bit of frustration and way too much time, I found reference to how to enable it, but using a browser to connect to the printer directly. Cool - except I was prompted for a password, which wasn't provided anywhere

I wish companies would be responsible and quit producing garbage that winds up in the land fill with minimal use. This will weigh HEAVILY in my mind before I EVER purchase another product by Canon. The thought of not replacing ink looks attractive, but I never would have had to. This product wasn't even made to last through a set of cartridges maybe two

Unfortunately, it doesn't print many pages before its cartridges run out of it, so you'll spend a lot of money on buying new cartridges, especially if you print a lot of 30-page documents often. Also, it's very slow at printing, and you may get frustrated waiting for your documents and photos to print, especially if there's a lot. That said, if you're okay with the compromises for a model with a small footprint, it's the most compact printer we've tested, which is impressive considering it has a scanner.

The Canon PIXMA G6020 is a very printer and it is replacing a cartridge-based HP printer for which I have not been able to buy ink cartridges for several months now. The amount of ink that is in the “Supertank” ink reservoirs is impressive and I have read that it contains about the same amount of ink as 84 ink cartridges! Even if it is a small fraction of that, the economics of buying a big bottle of ink for $12 vs paying twice that much or more for a much lower capacity ink cartridge is obvious. In fact, just two complete ink cartridge replacements on my previous HP printer would pay for this new Canon printer and all the ink that came with it (one of each color and three bottles of black)! I am so glad to get out of the paying big $ for ink cartridges, assuming you can even get them. Print quality seems fine, but it is a bit slower than the HP I am replacing

One thing, I do wish that HP tech-support was a little bit more accessible. I tried really hard to find a customer service line or a tech-support line in order to get some assistance but I wasn’t able to do so. I was also super pressed for time so I’d rather just buy the USB cord and get it done. The only reason I would rate this four stars, would be the fact that the print quality is actually really good for what it’s worth

Scanning works with simple scan as installed in bullseye (I expected a major fight here). All of this wirelessly.. which is awesome

As for the set up. I saw someone mention they were glad they had a PC for this set up because it made it easier, but from what we experienced, setting up the wireless printing for my wife's mac book was more easier than her PC. You simply activate the wifi on the printer, look up the wifi single on on your computer and connect. Was is super easy and intuitive? No

The simple way is to set your paper size to the Letter - 8-1/2 x 11 size at the top of that short list. Then you can work with any size actual paper that will fit within the margins. For my project I used 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 bifold card stock but told the printer it was 8-1/2 x 11. The printer ran it on through without a hitch

If you need a very basic, inexpensive printer that has a small footprint, this is the one.
