If you want a model with good photo printing quality, the best printer with cheap ink that we've tested is the Canon PIXMA G7020. While its retail cost is a bit on the pricey side, it's well worth it if you can spend more upfront to save money later. It has four refillable tanks, and it comes with two extra black bottles along with the typical four black and color bottles that come with most printers. It means you don't have to worry about black ink for a long time after the initial buy.

This model is a lot better than the others on this list in photo quality. Its images are more detailed, and there's much less graininess and banding. Its color accuracy is decent, and while some colors are a little off from their originals, your pictures will still look nice and natural. It takes less than a minute to print a 4&quot; x 6&quot; photo, and it accepts many other paper sizes and weights.

Unfortunately, it has a tiny, two-line display screen, similar to most scientific calculators. If the message or menu title is long, you have to wait for it to scroll, which is annoying when other models have much larger, touchscreen displays. Also, it isn't fast at printing monochrome or color documents, which might be an issue for you if you want to use this printer for other non-photo uses.  All of these printers should be recalled for a firmware update because they are shipped their Wifi is simultaneously a security risk and completely broken. I was looking forward to this buy (PIXMA G7020). My previous printer lasted beyond its shelf life, but the print cartridges cost sometimes more than just buying a new printer. I decided on this printer, it was recently released into operation and after filtering through the reviews on the correct printer (it seems like all Canon printers reviews are listed, not only for this model) that it should be fairly good. Unfortunately I was wrong

I did receive the replacement printer. It took slightly longer, but it did arrive, so here is the update review.  I was able to set the replacement printer up as with the first one and connect to my laptop and phone just fine. This time I had no problems printing with it

Owned almost two years.  Good for Everyday Print Needs BUT

The Canon PIXMA G6020 is a very printer and it is replacing a cartridge-based HP printer for which I have not been able to buy ink cartridges for several months now. The amount of ink that is in the “Supertank” ink reservoirs is impressive and I have read that it contains about the same amount of ink as 84 ink cartridges! Even if it is a small fraction of that, the economics of buying a big bottle of ink for $12 vs paying twice that much or more for a much lower capacity ink cartridge is obvious. In fact, just two complete ink cartridge replacements on my previous HP printer would pay for this new Canon printer and all the ink that came with it (one of each color and three bottles of black)! I am so glad to get out of the paying big $ for ink cartridges, assuming you can even get them.  Print quality seems fine, but it is a bit slower than the HP I am replacing

 Scanning works with simple scan as installed in bullseye (I expected a major fight here). All of this wirelessly.. which is awesome

  Network connection via wifi is simple enough, but that password input interface is about the worst thought out interface I've seen.  Once I got it on the network, I had the wife connect the mac to it, and it found it and worked via air print easily.   The simple way is to set your paper size to the Letter - 8-1/2 x 11 size at the top of that short list. Then you can work with any size actual paper that will fit within the margins. For my project I used 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 bifold card stock but told the printer it was 8-1/2 x 11. The printer ran it on through without a hitch

  Its print speed isn't as sprightly as the competition, but I wanted a workhorse, not a racehorse.  The entry-level price for ink tank printers has crept upward with the switch to "work from home" so I did a lot of research before plunking down my $$. If your needs are anything like mine, you'll find this a worthwhile investment and probably wish you'd gotten one sooner.  UPDATE AND NOTE ON BORDERLESS PRINTING:  It's only a partial implementation because they really don't want you using this on anything but photo paper

Toner cartridges for colour laser printers are extremely expensive while ink bottles for tank printers like the Epson Ecotank ET-5800 are extremely inexpensive.

Ink cartridges are so expensive especially when printing a lot of web pages and documents at home in both colors and B&amp;W with previous HP OfficeJet Pros (8600 and 8028e). Also, copying, scanning, and faxing through old fashion phone lines. Do toners last longer? Are laser ones any better even though they cost more?

Time to for an one in one color laser printer instead of inkjet?

 Usually the catch with premium photo printers like this is the crippling cost of the ink cartridges, but with ink tanks, its actually very economical to run. Aside from the high initial cost, it&rsquo;s hard to find fault with the Epson EcoTank ET-8550.

The large 10.9cm colour touchscreen tilts up for easy access and below this you can clearly see the six ink reservoirs. There&rsquo;s something reassuring about seeing how much ink you have in the tank rather than waiting for that dreaded message from your printer telling you to buy more cartridges.&nbsp;

The grey ink that most other printers lack gives the Epson EcoTank ET-8550 a real advantage when it comes to rendering black and white photos. The improved greyscale can make your arty prints look professional, especially when blown up onto A3 paper.

 The paper trays are sensitive to new paper being loaded and the screen prompts you to select the appropriate type and size of media. The Epson Smart Panel app gives you even more control from your smartphone and adds functionality such as templates for greetings cards.

6-ink EcoTank is ideal for A3 photos

 Adding the ink was almost foolproof thanks to the new bottle tips. I did not use gloves and there was no ink stains on me or the desk. .. I tried for a variety of shots, wanting to see the colors this printer put out, as well as the detail -- I love being able to see the storm on the horizon in some shots for instance.

 (When putting the paper into the printer, I also go through the prompts on the touchscreen to tell it what kind of paper I've loaded. Telling it in both places has resulted in EXCELLENT print quality thus far.)  At this point, I just need my rear paper feeder to stop jamming/crumpling paper, and this may well be the best printer I've gotten in a LONG time.  I tried to make a short video showing some of the pictures I was able to print off of this Epson, the pictures have been taken over the past 10-15 years, so some of them are off older digital cameras, some of them were taken with 10x zoom

Pages come out of this printer feeling like they have a lot of ink on them, and I have found after several days some of the 8.5 x 11 borderless printed images have started curling at the edges, I think that is because of the large amount of ink put on the paper.
