Its autofocus system also performs decently well when tracking moving subjects, though it's not as impressive as higher-end models.

And even then, they almost never take the issue seriously on the first try, meaning you have to send the camera back in for a re-repair, which takes another three-four weeks. My D800 has been in for service twice, and I still have the same auto-focus issue, so I have to send it in a third time. Overall this means I will end up being without my new camera for a total of three months since purchasing it. Be ready for a similar experience! I have a decent compact now and for most shots I'm happy with it.It's not about the camera, it never was, the thing that gets the aahs and oohs is what's in the picture and how you arranged it, and that's the much more difficult part.

Movie Mode: This has been around for awhile, and the D800 has some nice features with many shooting modes to choose from, such as 24 frames for that indie look. The movie features are comparable to any of the other PRO DSLRs out there just youtube it. The D800 has continuous focus and supports external mic in and does a great job with movie production.

would prefer to use AAs in the body also as they are obtainable in an emergency from just about anywhere. I use the included battery in the body but set the camera to always use the AAs first. The included battery is 1900mAhr whereas I can get 2800 mAhr rechargeable batteries which give more exposures although not dramatic. Now about the most important thing in any camera

For serious reach in birding you'll have to spend a lot more money. The 75 - 300 has decent reach and if you have it stopped down to f8 and are shooting in sunlight you should be able to get pretty good close-ups of birds. The Canon 100 - 400 mm L lens is a very popular birding lens that will be much sharper than what you have and can be had for under $1,000 used, but it's not going to give you much more reach. If you're looking to zoom in much closer, you're going to be in 500 to 600 mm territory which gets very expensive very quickly

I like the one step up setting so my 200mm lens never shoots with a shutter less than 1/400. This makes it so much easier on longer length lenses and especially zooms like the 70 - 200 where you might jump around and going back into the menu is a pain to set the min shutter each time..

So, even though I usually do recommend lenses over bodies as I said, in this case I'd say that selling the 24mm, 55-250 and 18-55, and getting a 6D and one of the 35, 38, or 24mm primes I mentioned above, would be your most appropriate move. The 50mm can stay as a new general-purpose lens and the 70-200 would fill the gap left by the 55-250, though if your bird photography is something you *really* enjoy I'd suggest ditching it and picking up a 400mm f/5.6L instead, if not a Tamron 150-600mm G2 or Sigma 150-60mm Contemporary.

The other $600 I'd invest in a couple of used fast lenses picking two of the following 35mm, 50mm 85mm. I would go 35mm and 85mm but that's my personal preference.
