i am comparing this lens to the one with the identical specs from Nikon. The Canon lens has almost (but not quite) the same optical performance, but the manufacturing quality is worse. The Canon lens has a plastic feel with some mechanical "play" whereas the Nikon one feels solid.  I am now comparing this Canon lens to the Canon 24-105 L lens
