CALLAWAY MAVRIK MAX DRIVER REVIEW - YouTube

 Hello and welcome to the Performance Centre here at Howley Hall Golf Club, where today we're taking a look at the new Maverick Max Driver from Callaway Golf.

 Hi, Ryan Rastle here for Golfshake.com, PJ Professional here at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds.

 And as I've said today, we're taking a look at the Maverick Max Driver.

 So let's get into Maverick. So new family for Callaway, something that's come out as the sort of replacement, if you like, or to go alongside Epic Flash.

 It uses some of the same technology that we've seen, but also takes it to the next level.

 And I'm going to talk about that in a second. But let's talk about what is in there.

 So we've got jailbreak, which we've seen in some of the previous models of Driver.

 Jailbreak really helps make sure that the energy transfer is as good as can be so that we don't lose any energy when we strike the ball and it's transferred into the golf ball to help us hit it as far as possible and get as much ball speed as we can.

 So we've got Flash Face SS20, which is Super Strength Titanium, which has been used in this face now.

 Different material to last year's Driver.

 And the reason for that is because Callaway have really gone in as much depth as possible in the design.

 They've used their AI supercomputer that they've used last year for Epic Flash and really made sure that every single model and loft has its own face designed to help that golf club perform as well as it can for us, the end user.

 And this Super Strength Titanium is one of those that's going to help to maintain ball speed, but also in the different models and lofts, make sure that they perform to the highest possible specification that you'd expect from a Callaway golf club.

 But don't just take my word for it. We're going to pass over now to Dr. Alan Hocknall, who is the Senior Vice President of Research and Development for Callaway, to tell you a little bit more.

 So there are three different head shapes in Maverick. This is the standard model that will fit the vast majority of players, and it has all of those benefits built in about greater head speed, and it has greater forgiveness, and the downrange performance is absolutely top notch as a result.

 The Sub-Zero model really prioritizes lower center of gravity for people who need to take spin out of their driver shots.

 And for that, we have to make the head shape modify so that it prioritizes low CG. That means that there's more head lower to the ground.

 But for that type of golfer, that spin reduction is a higher priority than maybe a little bit of the head speed that we give up as a result of changing the body shape.

 In a way, that's sort of true for the Max model as well. It's a much larger head. That golfer, the priorities there are to iron out fades and very large fades that become slices in one sense, or to produce more launch angle in another sense, or to give a larger face area because those golfers use those things.

 So the priorities for those golfers are not necessarily about an extra mile per hour or so of head speed aerodynamically either. They're more about launching the ball more accurately and straighter.

 So there we have it. Pretty intense, isn't it? Those guys are going to the next level to make sure that our golf clubs perform as well as possible.

 So I'm going to hit the Maverick Max now, give you a little bit of feedback about it, but also show you how it performs on the Trackman here as well.

 Max is obviously the most forgiving across the face of all the Maverick drivers. It looks a little bit bigger in terms of the footprint is a bit longer from front to back.

 It's not quite as deep in the face as the Sub-Zero and the standard Maverick models look. It has movable weight, so we've got a 14 and a 2 gram weight here that we can shift in the head. So we can move that to the back position to make it higher MLI, a bit more forgiving.

 Or if we need that help with the draw bias a bit more, move it into the heel of the golf club as well. On the face of it, this is not the model that should suit me, but we're going to hit it.

 We're going to show you it on the Trackman and how it performs. In terms of how it sits behind the ball, it's noticeably bigger than the other two models, but I think that kind of fills you with confidence a little bit.

 It sits really nicely behind the ball. It's nice and square looking. It doesn't sit shut like some Max or more forgiving models do in other brands when you see them. It actually sits really nicely behind the ball. So let's give it a hit and let's see how it performs.

 It feels completely different off the face to the other models, but still very, very good. It's nice and solid. The sound there is very good, and that's something that Callaway have worked on quite a lot.

 And there's very different shapes in these three drivers, which you'll see from Callaway. So they're all designed to do very different jobs.

 And this one being the most forgiving of the three, I was expecting it to sound a little bit more tinny than it probably does, but I know Callaway have really worked on the sound of the drivers as well.

 So yeah, the sound is very, very good. It's got the Callaway Chevron on the top of it, which you'd expect, and also the little orange details around the perimeter of the driver there, which is obviously the maverick colourway and the kind of graphite carbon kind of look to the crown as well, which looks really good.

 So for me, it's a little bit high spinning. That's something I struggle with anyway. So I would expect that, you know, this driver is going to come out on the top end spin wise, which is what we're seeing really on the track, man.

 But it's not really designed for someone like me. It's designed for someone who maybe just get that much lower flight and really needs that help of getting the ball airborne.

 But it feels and looks great. It really, really does. It sits behind the ball. Lovely. And it's very easy to hit.

 It feels good. Nice high flight. It's pretty much down the middle and fairly straight most of the time.

 Yes, it's a little bit shorter than I would normally hit it just purely because it's not the right head for me.

 That really emphasises why you should go and get custom fitted for a driver. Me using maybe a slightly different loft or one of the different models in the Callaway family there.

 I would be getting, you know, a little bit more ball speed, maybe a little bit more distance.

 But someone there that is struggling with getting the ball airborne needs a bit more forgiveness, might need the draw bias option in there.

 This driver is going to be awesome for you. So as always, go and get custom fitted. I can't recommend that enough. Try all the different models in the Maverick family.
