Yoo I have the burton instigator it’s sooo flexible I love it it just melts to the form of every bump, brilliant board

IN: 2021 Bataleon Evil Twin. Out: 2018 Burton Instigator.

The board you describe is either a Burton Instigator, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker or a Jones All Mountain Twin. 

Now that winter is over and deals are starting to pop up on last year’s board models, I figured it’s finally time to retire my 15 year old Burton Air and upgrade for the next decade!

Old man here who recently bruised his ribs pretending he’s still a teenager on the last trip of the season, so my park days are unfortunately over. Live on the East (ice) coast, which means lots of hard-pack and groomers. Occasionally will be doing some backcountry runs or trips out West in search of powder. 

I’m looking for a board that can primarily hard charge straight down a hill without chattering getting squirrelly, not really the type who needs something super flexible or playful. Fairly settled on a directional board, but open to other suggestions. 

Friends have suggested the Lib Orca, Solomon Dancehaul, Ride Warpig, K2 Excavator, and Jones Stratos. 

Current board is a 153 for size, probably need something a little wider because my toes currently hang off the edge significantly. Height is 5’10 and weight range is roughly 145-160 lbs for reference. Let me know if any additional information required to help recommend the sizing as well.

Snowboard Recommendations

 It was really amazing. I think as the edges get detuned over a little bit of riding, it's not going to grip as well. For a beginner, this edge hold is great because it's going to inspire confidence. This is a great hard snowboard

 Sorry Burton, but that's that's how I feel. When it comes to the shape, it's tapered directional. And for you beginner intermediate riders out there, tapered directional means it generally takes a little more weight on the back foot on groomers to keep the tail from washing on a turn, but takes less weight in powder. And that's a good thing

 And surprise surprise, for the first time in a long time, I felt like this had really competent edge hold in hard snow. It's one of the most grippy Burton boards I've ever tried. When it comes to sizing, this 155 instigator fit me really well, especially with my boot size. I might be able to go up one more size for my weight, but I really like the ability to control it better and have my toes and heels near the edges and that felt much better
