It's a lot of fun So Another benefit going along with that shifted camber that I mentioned earlier is that the board actually Performs a little bit differently when you're on hard pack versus on powder on hard pack That camber is gonna actually activate the rocker in the nose even more Lifting the nose up and it's gonna kind of pull the contact points back a little bit Making the board feel and ride like a shorter snowboard So the contact point is the widest point in the snowboard where you're getting most of the contact most of the control in the snow on powder When the board is pushing down on the snow It's gonna ride and feel like a much longer snowboard and give you that float that you're looking for That's something that's gonna be true for pretty much all shit and camber snowboards And it's really noticeable today on the deep thinker going from those cat tracks and then dipping into the trees where we have that deeper powder Another cool fact on this board is the graphics were done by the legendary skater Mark Gonzalez As far as the flex goes, this board has a directional flex stiffer in the tail I'd say around a 6 out of 10 and more medium in the nose about a 5 out of 10 The deep thinker has my favorite combination of tech for carving so that setback stance combined with the tapered side cut Really allows you to set a really strong edge and it also makes the board really maneuverable So it's a lot of fun for carving really good for swiveling through the trees as well Normally as you guys know, I'm always on my unions.  What up guys, TJ here. I'm out on Whistler Mountain today with Kevin and it is freaking dumping And I'm gonna be testing out the 2018 Burton Deep Thinker snowboard for you guys. Let's get it I'm actually really really excited to get on the Deep Thinker you guys. So this is a brand new board for Burton for 2018 It's the directional version of the Freethinker

 It also has a setback stance So you're sitting a little bit further back on the snowboard and a slight taper a 7 millimeter taper And so that just means that the tail is a little bit skinnier than the nose So that's gonna drop that tail down to the powder even further This board is floating so well Just no limits just sending it off. Burton Deep Thinker Snowboard Review

It can be harsher at times, but the focus of the board is to be more responsive when ridden aggressively. And to add a personal anecdote, I ride a Salomon Assassin (~5/10 flex) and a Burton Deep Thinker (~7/10 flex).

So I just upgraded my burton ripcord to a capita outerpace living board, and its much stiffer. everyone says the benefits of stiffer boards are stability and less vibration and chatter, but how?

wouldnt a softer board absorb the vibration and chatter versus being stiff and sending it up thru your body? i mean soft skateboard wheels absorb vibration and impact versus harder wheels. or a luxury car with a soft suspension is much quieter and comfortable than a car with a firm and hard suspension...

Stiff VS Soft boards?

 At your size you probably want the 164, which has a 278 mm waist which is WIDE. Speaking from experience with a size 10 foot, the CR's doable but lot of board to move around.

Hello expert snowboarders! 

I need your help. I've been snowboarding the same board for 20+ years (I'm 41 now) and I think it's time to buy a new snowboard. I tried to watch reviews, read articles, etc but holy moly have snowboards become complicated. It's like the reviewers are intentionally using made up words just to confuse me. (Is there a snow-boarding lingo for dummies book?). 

Well, I've managed to narrow it down that I want a **directional carving board** as I don't ride switch and I don't do parks any more. Too many injuries. 

I live in California, I can comfortably ride black diamonds, double blacks are doable just not enjoyed as much. I'm 6' + 200lbs. My current (ancient) board is a Burton Balance. 

I was thinking about the **Korua Shapes Cafe Racer** or the **Bataleon Cruiser**? 

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. I listened to reviews about these and other cruise/carve boards and the nuanced details are just lost on me.

Need help picking a snowboard - I don't understand 95% of what's being said in reviews!

I was getting into some tree barrels I was getting into some kind of pretty nasty little like Tight cuts through the trees beast. He couldn't keep up whatsoever. No, he did They didn't did you I just naturally faster. I just had I just had like a good line had a bump in song You know 16 years younger than me

 Um, But did you find yourself going faster than you would in uneven terrain? Absolutely. Yeah, it really does Well, it really didn't have too much chatter or like any sort of reverb It floated through floated through a punch through and it handles switch really well Um for what it is for eight mils of paper, it's definitely different It's definitely weird, but it's so doable something you could get used to if you owned it You definitely want this more as your directional carver. You kind of powerful board um, it goes well with the the free thinker, you know, but um you know Powder I felt it floated good but not like It's not effortless not effortless. There was some back leg work going on there in this deep thicker power But that little you know upturn and we have it set all the way back Uh tapered nose It managed powder

 It's a really dynamic underfoot It really has good spring. It really carved well. I I had a blast with this What about you peter dude taking it through the trees?  Yeah and fun that way And I would say the edge hold is good But just kind of like bordering on being good in hard snow and kind of letting go when it gets too hard. Don't you think? Like yeah, we all concur Turn initiation super fast And once it's on the side cut it might not be the circle carver, but it's but it's pretty deep It's it's got you can really lay it out and have fun I I carved when the when the camera was turned off down at the bottom there And then um, you know the turning experience and carving is just fun. It's a really dynamic underfoot It really has good spring. It really carved well

 So next up riding through that rough frozen powder pillows. This board because of its mid to stiff flex it definitely helps you to stay in control through that rough terrain. A softer board you'd get bucked around a lot more putting you off balance but because of the stiffness and because of some of that positive camber it just helps you to stay in control, ride with confidence and push the snow around more than it pushes you around. So the next test and this is the reason I bought this board is through powder

 Hey what's up guys, Kevin here. So today I'm up on Blackcomb and I'm testing out the Burton Deep Thinker. I bought the Deep Thinker because of its claims of being an all-mountain board you can take into the powder and add freestyle elements to. On the mountain today we got a good mix of chopped up groomed runs, some powder so we can take this board, put it to the test and see how it works out

 It just helps the board to stay in contact with the snow the whole time, gripping that ice. To be honest it's not as good as a board like the T-Rise Pro with the magnet traction or even an Arbor board with Grip Tech but the camber towards the tail does help this board to stay in contact with that ice giving you some good hold. So next up riding through that rough frozen powder pillows. This board because of its mid to stiff flex it definitely helps you to stay in control through that rough terrain

 But with the rocker in the nose, it's that bit more forgiving. You get it onto edge, it really rails through that turn and just doesn't chatter about. Pretty high-tech, lots of carbon in here, keeps it nice and damp. And to be perfectly honest, I'm just such a fan of the key powering graphics that they've done on this

 They do a Free Thinker, which is a true twin cambered high-tech freestyle board. This is a little bit more directional. You can see from the shape in the tail, you've got this really cool little swallow tail, cambered from the back behind your foot to in front of your front foot, and then it rockers up into the nose. So it's got really good edge hold, super fun on piece, carves really hard, and super poppy

But if you wanted to power through like some hard bumps or some bumpy terrain, and you really just wanted to just jam through it, it's going to buck and bounce you around. But it turns through messy snow and tracked up snow really well if you slow it down and you just want to go edge to edge really quick and avoid those messy spots and weaving it out of moguls or something like that. This does an amazing job here, and it doesn't get cranky, so that's good

 When it comes to edge hold, it's pretty good. It can handle some hard snow. There's no visible disruption that I can see, so whatever's going on is subtle but working. And I liked it in hard snow

Telos BackSlash 2021-2023 Snowboard Review

 This board is available in 143, 148, 153, and 158. I rode this board at Steamboat Ski Resort with overcast skies, moderate to high winds, there was like heavy chunder snow, ice, I think it might have rained on the lower mountain and then there was fresh light powder at the top of the mountain, windblown powder, little more ice and chunder and I rode it with my Rome Black Label bindings and my K2 Thraxis boots. This board has that standard middle of the road volume shifted predictable flex to it. It is directional so you do get a little bit more flex in the nose where that rocker section is and then it's stiffer through that camber section with a noticeable amount of torsional give but it's not overwhelming or crazy demanding
