Buck Special 119BKS Hunting Knife Fixed Blade vs Victorinox Swiss Classic Paring Knife

The blade arrived quite dull and couldn't shave any hair even with some decent pressure. I also have a new standard 119 (which costs 1/3 the price as this) and it arrived super sharp with a nice even grind. There is no way this "pro" version is worth 3x as much as the standard 119. That's just my personal preference. I've always wanted a Buck 119 Special and the time has come. This hunting knife is a keeper for life. The leather sheath is made in Mexico but appears to be saddle quality leather and seems very tough

Don't waste your money on anything more expensive than $10 because with the amount you'll be using these, like David Chang (famous chef) said, you'll go through them.

Under some circumstances that might be nice, but it utterly destroys any balance this knife might have been able to achieve. It also gives the impression that if one were to drop it, it would shatter in about a million pieces. This may absolutely not be the case, but it is a phenolic handle, and these things happen. Despite the rather nice appearance, actually holding the knife makes it feel considerably cheaper than it otherwise could, and paying twice as much for a wood handle seems unreasonable at this price point

I have size Medium in mens gloves and the handle is barely big enough for four of my fingers, and your thumb has absolutely no where to go. There is a reason why you see all the pictures on here with people holding the knife so that the butt of it is in their palm, or their thumb is over the bolster and onto the spine of the blade (which isnt comfortable). The only grip to hold this knife is like a baseball bat which would only be good for hacking, and this knife doesnt seem designed for that.

I’d recommend sticking to the 3.25” I don’t know what ergonomic principle they were following with the handle. It is thin, hard plastic. The bolster extends past the edge, making it less nimble

Disclaimer: Not a normal review, this is a vegetable knife, but also a very versatile butcher knife! If you are queasy, or anti-hunting/meat - probably not the best for you to read so avert your squimish little eyes, por favor.
