After doing a bit of research I have shortlisted the Btwin 500 and Zizzo Urbano as they seem to be a similar price. Which one of these would be the better buy? The bike will be something I use for leisure and exercise.

I actually considered these same bikes myself and it was looking at them in person that helped make up my mind (I went for the Tilt 500). The aluminium frame on the Tilt 500 makes a surprisingly big difference to how heavy it feels - this was a big deal for me as I have to carry it up to the 2nd floor but it also helps when carrying it on the tube etc. Both the Tilt 120 and the Carrera Transit are pretty heavy in comparison.

I've just moved into a new apartment, and have been looking for a folding bike I can store indoors for occasional rides to the shops and to get used to cycling around my new city. I'm 5'10, \~65kg and in good physical fitness, but haven't ridden much at all for the past few years.

I've narrowed it down to three main options within my budget, all with 20" wheels and similar folded size (i.e small enough). I mainly wanted a folder because it means I can work on it in indoors if necessary and keep it safe and out of the elements overnight, it's not going to be used every day.

I understand that the more expensive bikes will have nicer components and finish etc, but I've got two main questions...

1. Is the hub on the Carrera Transit a major upside for cycling round a small flat city? It seems pretty rare on a folding bike of this price.
2. Is the Tilt 120 really £100 less bike? It seems pretty similar to the Tilt 500 aside from the lack of integrated headlights, steel frame and 1 fewer gear.

Happy to consider alternatives for a similar price. Thanks!

Which of these folding bikes would be best? (UK)

 I got the dark blue color which is the only available color here in Australia. If you're looking for other colors there's other lower models which got other colors available. Stock weight for this is around 12 kilograms. It's pretty much a good weight I would consider for an entry level folding bike

 The frame for this is the aluminum 6061 with a high 10 steel so makes it lightweight and also durable for the fork level. The rear derailleur is the Shimano Tourney with a 7-speed cassette and additional reflectors also installed in the tires in white color. The frame for this one is covered with a lifetime warranty from Decathlon excluding the hinges for the folding mechanisms but the frame itself has a lifetime warranty. This comes with V-brakes for both front and back and also some compatible V-eclipse for the lighting if you choose to upgrade

 Stock weight for this is around 12 kilograms. It's pretty much a good weight I would consider for an entry level folding bike. It has the front and rear fenders included and pre-installed very good for protecting against water and mud. The front white reflectors are included as well as the red reflectors which is prerequisite for a bicycle here in Australia

 It's sort of the low end derailleur but it still works really really well here. So that's it for the spec of the bike and let's get into the folding of the bike. So the first thing you want to do is remove the kickstand. While you remove the kickstand turn the pedal by folding it and drop the seat post

 What I have here is the Tern-Link A7. It's an entry level bike so the price point of this bike is under $700 in Canadian but in US it's probably under $500. So it's a really economic bike. So this particular bike, who is this for? Well for someone who doesn't want to pay a lot of money but still want to have a good quality folding bike and that's what this bike is for

 One thing is really important you need to tilt the saddle just a little bit off center. You need to make sure you drop the handle post down as low as possible and then remove the latch and point the handle post either upward or downward doesn't really matter but basically the whole idea is you just want to make sure they're flat. Then the next step is to drop the handle post. Now this one don't have a safety pin you just basically push it out and then this handle bar will come down and then the next step is to open up the safety latch open up the main hinge and then just fold it this way

The Tern Link A7 pictured at the end of article is a good example of a folding bike with an unfortunate gearing combination of 36" - 72" gear inches, thanks to that 7-speed freewheel. It's a shame that manufacturers (big, small, good, or bad) continue offering bikes with 6- or 7-speed hubs and saddle the eventual buyers with slow bikes that are just heavy when it comes time to climb hills. And then to make matters worse, many come with a smaller chainring, too. Hence the reputation of folding bikes being slow bikes, or bikes that need more pedalling

For those who want the pro's and con's of touring with a folding bicycle!

 Really nice, thoughtful feature that Tern had there, and some really nice folding pedals as well for when you're folding the bike, you can save a little bit of extra space. Up on the cockpit area, you do have some adjustments here that you can make as far as the angle of your brake levers. And you have a nice 7-speed twist grip shifter here to keep your shifting nice and accessible, and some ergonomic grips as well. So the fold on the Link A7 is a little bit different than some of the other Tern bikes that are out there, so we'll walk you through it

 So we'll close that up. Next you're going to want to come to your handlebars, and you're going to want to lower them right around that number 11 there. That's going to get it at the right height for you when the bars are between the two wheels. Then you're going to adjust the brake levers to be completely vertical so that they're nice and flat when you fold it up

 It does have bottle cage bosses in the frame there so you can carry your water with you. It has mounting points for fenders and a rack as well, so you can get both of those installed on the bike if you need to for some extra carrying space and just to keep yourself clean while you're riding in wet weather. It comes with a nice comfortable saddle, which is always an upgradeable option, but the one that it comes with is just fine for most people. The bike has some nice heavy duty rims, and the rim brakes that it comes with are plenty for your daily city commute
