Did a lot of research and settled on Bosch 300 series. Best value in terms of having most of the key features and cleaning power without being as expensive as the 500 or 800 series. Get one with the third rack for cutlery (I think at this point they practically all have that, but there may be a few that don't) it takes a bit of getting used to at first, but it is awesome. Have not had any cause to regret it, cleans better than the Whirlpool ever did, and is virtually silent

I’ve had it with the ones I’ve had before breaking and leaking and when I fix one issue a new one arises. I know this is partly just dishwashers, but if I’m going to invest in a new one I want to know which ones people have been happy with and that have held up well. TIA!

 On the washer, you aren't able to select "spin" alone; you end up having to select "rinse and spin" which really defeats the purpose of saving water.

  Also, the drum on this washer is only 12 inches across. The other Bosch washers are 16" across. That was something else I missed when buying this.

  So in summary, if you live in America, you don't want to buy this because of the 220 volt plug and smaller loads.  And yes, I am aware it says "compact", that's on me, I am not complaining about the size, just warning other potential buyers.

Don't buy this model, too small and 220 volts needed.

For the dryer I went with gas instead of electric.  The gas dryer was slightly more expensive but I already had the hookups for both and the conventional wisdom seemed to suggest that gas is more efficient (the trend in my energy bill seems to show this is true).  Out of all the features I think the best is that I can open the dryer door to the side to unload it, then I can close and reopen it from the top to load it.  It's easily my favorite feature

  For a top loader it is quite efficient on water and the downward trend in my quarterly water bill seems to confirm that.  One more good thing about our new LG is the spin cycle has some mechanism to offset an imbalanced load and the only way I can get it to go off balance is if I put something ridiculously huge like a heavy blanket in there all by itself.

 You just turn the machine on, put a detergent plug into the drum, load, dial up your clothing match, and press the run button. The washer appears to have some AI that checks the washer load to see if any timing adjustment is needed off the baseline you dialed in, but maybe that is my imagination. Point is anyone can use these with great precision without any effort. Kind of makes up for the crappy manuals

 2. no-brainer operation. If you are not into all the options worry not, you don't really need them. There are so many presets on the dial, you almost can't fail to find a setting that works for whatever you are cleaning

It is hard to judge without a side-by-side comparison, and maybe we over stuffed to old guy whish is why it had some problems, and I could in fact stuff more into the new machine if I wanted
