The top rack has space for shallow overturned dishes, but they do not get clean reliably, because dishes or pots in the middle rack block the spray from below. The top rack is useful only for silverware placed on edge in the slots provided so that the spray from above does the cleaning. Cleaning the filter system in this dishwasher is easy: 1) pull bottom rack outwards to expose inside bottom of washer 2) turn large plastic knob 1/4 turn counter-clockwise and lift assembly upwards 3) Wipe/rinse assembly as needed and then put assembly back 4) Rotate large plastic knob clockwise until black arrows are aligned again
