The Blizzard Zero G 105 is the best heavy-ish all-around backcountry ski we have used in recent years. It does everything very well, especially considering its weight. At 1500 grams, there are many lighter options on the market, but the ones we've tested ski more poorly than the Blizzard. Going the other direction, one must tack on a couple hundred grams of mass before matching or exceeding the ski performance of this award winner. 
Weight to performance ratio is the real and definitive measure of an all-around ski for human-powered use. In that matrix, this Blizzard shares the top of the heap. For a long time, we have picked two highest award winners; one super light and the other "normal" light. The Zero G 105 is the "normal light" award winner. The primary compromise in its performance is in firm snow. It doesn't grip quite as smoothly or confidently as we would like in an all-around ski. It does well enough, but this is the drawback we have to comment on.

 Super handy, nice little design for the skin so I highly recommend those. With the Zero Gs they do have of course a nice early rise in the tips. We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1

 I've been skiing the 105s for two seasons now. I got a pre-production model and tested them for a year and then wrote the review and I've been skiing on them all this year as well. So the new thing with the Zero G skis is the carbon drive 2.0 construction

 So great and variable snow conditions. The Zero Gs also use a rounded 3D top edge design. So you can see that on the top edge here and that reportedly reduces the ski weight by about 15%. There is also a skin notch in the tip and also in the tail of the ski as you can see and you can buy pre-cut mocha skins

 We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1. The 180 was a little small so I do find the 188 to be an ideal size for me. They do come in a 164, 172, 180 and 188 centimeter lengths

The Dynastar M-Pro 99 Skis are for the directional freeride skier who wants fairly strong and stable skis that aren’t sluggish or overly demanding. If an aggressive and strong ski that can be pushed in all conditions sounds appealing (but without the weight and punishing shape normally associated with heavy and bulky skis), the Dynastar M-Pro 99 is a great option to consider.
Key Features:
- Hybrid Core – The unique use of polyurethane in the core absorbs vibrations effectively without adding much weight and gives the skis a smooth feeling on snow. Dynastar combines the polyurethane with a  layer of titanal over the core to give the ski stiffness and stability where needed while still being accessible.
- Directional Rocker – A long rocker in the tip and tail makes the ski easy to turn and able to stay on top of soft snow, but by limiting the height, they keep their grip on hard snow.
- Titanal Rocker Frame – It has a partial metal frame over the hybrid core that is uniquely designed to provide stiffness and power when necessary but still let the ski flex and remain easy to bend into turns.

 I really would love to ski these in some fresh snow and just see how they fare there, because I think they would be really fun for more of a big mountain environment given that they're nice and stiff underfoot, but light in the tip so you can float. So I definitely would not ski this if you are a beginner skier. If you like a ski that's quick edge to edge, this is not going to be your best bet. If you like to take sort of longer, lazier GS turns kind of down the hill, these are going to be a good option for you

 All in all, these felt really good once you had them engaged and in the turn. They do take some work to get from edge to edge, but again, once you engage in the turn, they're really happy to just keep on carving for a long time. It's definitely a lot of work to get them to do shorter radius turns, so just keep that in mind. But yeah, they felt really stable once I had them on edge

 If you like a ski that's quick edge to edge, this is not going to be your best bet. If you like to take sort of longer, lazier GS turns kind of down the hill, these are going to be a good option for you. If you want something that's going to be fairly versatile in a higher snow area like Colorado, Utah, Pacific Northwest, these are going to be a good option. I don't think that these are going to be great in the east and on ice in general, just given that the tips are so soft and floppy

 It's definitely a lot of work to get them to do shorter radius turns, so just keep that in mind. But yeah, they felt really stable once I had them on edge. They're not the most playful ski. They're not really a freeride ski in my opinion

 So pretty interesting. You know I think a lot of skis and a lot of manufacturers are kind of doing the opposite by trying to build more torsional stiffness into the forebody of the ski and then a looser tail and these kind of have the opposite concept going on. And I said that carries over to its shape and it really does. So up here in the tip of the ski we get all that rocker

 Now it's not the easiest in softer snow conditions or off piece technical terrain but it certainly can do it. This tip shape again really helps a lot. Any forgiveness that this ski has, any kind of ease of use in situations like that is coming from this tip shape. It really lets you kind of steer the ski where you want to go without it feeling catchy and too aggressive in how it's kind of turning through technical terrain

 So if you want easier edge release that kind of surfy feel you might be better off in the M free line but those skis can't really touch the overall power of the M Pro. So it's a real skier ski. This is a real deal ski here. You have to kind of give it that input

 So not that it really changes how you're controlling your skis but it certainly adds a very very strong finish to a carve in particular. So say you're skiing pretty fast, you're laying over some big arcs, that tail just has a ton of stability to it and this is really a ski that you can trust at high speeds under a powerful aggressive skier. Now it's not the easiest in softer snow conditions or off piece technical terrain but it certainly can do it. This tip shape again really helps a lot

 They fit right into that category of the vocal blaze that we were just trying and the Armada Declivity. Very, very similar skis in terms of their niche. One of these lighter, woodcore-y skis, not a lot of metal. But of the three, I say the Deon Star is absolutely handling the harder, icier snow better

 This is even more toned down. So we're evolving here towards more traditional geometry. And I think that's kind of the story you're seeing across the brands. As things continue, not as much funky, weird looking skis on the market today

 One of these lighter, woodcore-y skis, not a lot of metal. But of the three, I say the Deon Star is absolutely handling the harder, icier snow better. This ski doesn't feel nearly as intimidated or as skittish on the steeper, icier snow. So it's making me feel more confident and I like that a lot

 And so this M Pro 99 feels to me a lot like home, very reminiscent of that same feel. Ski likes to be kind of upright, likes knee angulation, and has a really nice little sort of tip to tail action. If you're that kind of skier where you like to get on your tips and then dive forward and finish the turn a little bit back, this ski really likes to make those kinds of turns. So for me, it's just fun, fun, fun
