 Is it slightly overkill? Yes I don't think anyone needs 12k right now but if you can afford it and based on like the competition as well like why wouldn't you? I think with the 12k is more about the ability to recrop and reframe rather than the actual resolution. To be completely honest with you sometimes I couldn't tell the difference between the 12k and the 8k files on my 5k screen. Even for someone like me as a solo shooter that does a lot of like landscape and outdoor shooting and licensing content I don't think I would get one I would need something that's somewhat in between the 12k and the 6k Pro so for me I don't need 12k resolution I don't think a lot of people do I would be okay with having a camera that is an 8k camera at 24 30p and has 120 frames per second with no crop in 6k and that has the ability to shoot ProRes as well. I think the ability to shoot ProRes is more important than having the 12k resolution so I would prefer a less powerful camera in terms of specs and resolution but one that is closer in terms of flexibility than the Ursa Mini Pro, the standard one or the 6k Pro or 6k

 So some of you may not know but I actually used to own the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k a few years ago and I shot documentaries on it, I shot licensing content and even shot a short film but it was a bit too big and bulky for me to carry around the world for the projects that I was doing at the time. For the past couple of years I've used the 6k and the 6k pro as my main cameras and as you know I love the cameras, I love the image, they're really nice to use. 4k I've seen online a few people that were disappointed with the 4k footage being not as good as it should be being downscaled from 12k I didn't really notice any issue with that I think it looked fine I shot indoor and outdoors I would say though that the 4k 240 looked a little bit soft but I think it's due to the fact that you have to be in super 16 center mode and finally the file size so we'll talk about it more in depth later in the video how it is to edit those files but obviously when you shoot 12k and 8k the files are going to be huge so that's not something that I don't like about the camera or something that I think could be improved it's just something that could become an issue if you're not prepared for it I did the footage on separate hard drives just because they were filling out so quickly I was using the angel birds cards the 256 gig and I would get anywhere between 5 minutes to 15 minutes depending on the resolutions and the cards actually maxed out at 12k 60 I could only do four seconds at the time 12k 24p no issues but 12k 60 I could only do four seconds and now a quick word about today's sponsor FilmConvert I've talked about on the channel before but essentially FilmConvert enables you to add film color and film grain to your videos I've been using it since 2013 on pretty much all my work I've used it with black magic cameras the canon my drone you've got real film grain and you've got about 20 film stock to choose from and all the footage that you've seen from the 12k was actually graded with FilmConvert as well this time I didn't really want to have a look though I was more going for a neutral look because I wanted to showcase the camera's resolution and the color and the image so I didn't want to alter it too much and that's a great thing with FilmConvert is you can actually go for a proper film look or you can just have something that is a bit more natural I have already made a full dedicated video on it so feel free to check that out and don't forget to use the link in the description to save 10% so a question that I got asked a lot when I posted a video when I first got the camera and I posted stories on Instagram was how did you edit the files and what computer do you have so I'm going to read the specs of my computer just because I don't want to forget anything so I've got a 16 inch MacBook Pro with an eight core R9 processor I've got 32 gigs of ram a Radeon pro 5500 with eight gigs of video ram and a one tera SSD the computer is actually hooked up to a 5k ultra fine monitor so it's not the most recent computer but it's also quite a powerful one and the new M1 Pro and Max would be amazing though so editing the files was a lot easier than I thought it would be within DaVinci I imported all the files and playback in 12k 24p or 8k 120 was actually fine I had no drop frames whatsoever I actually exported all the files from DaVinci into transcoded them into 8k ProRes 422 so I could edit with them in Final Cut and even within Final Cut I had no drop frames whatsoever and the only time I had to change from best quality to best performance and when I started to apply effects and started grading things like that out of DaVinci it took about 45 minutes to export about 40 clips each time I've done that like maybe like 10 times or so which is actually not that bad I edited off a Samsung X5 SSD which is a super fast SSD I think it runs like at 2 gigs a second or something like that so that was fine

URSA MINI PRO 12K | REVIEW | 1 month with the Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 12K

 Doing full width 4K at 4K 120 frames per second, you can get some very nice slow motion out of this. So once I installed DaVinci Resolve, I was kind of blown away by how editable these files were. I was able to cut 12K and 8K on a three year old MacBook Pro and it wasn't really giving me any issues. The one thing you do really want to bear in mind though is it might be very editable, but those export times will absolutely kill you

 The last thing is, please just let me plug a hard drive into my camera. It was very seamless and honestly I actually found the USB-C connection is a lot more solid than the micro HDMI connections that we find ourselves using on a lot of mirrorless cameras right now. But hopefully this gives you something to think about and if you're really curious about RAW video, be sure to read Richard Butler's recent article on DPReview.com about why RAW video might not be quite as impressive as you'd expect if you're coming from JPEG and RAW photos

 So what they've done with this pixel array is it's designed in order to bend down to 8K and 4K, keep the full width of the sensor, but it really avoids a lot of the moiré and aliasing that we usually see when we're shooting lower resolution video. Now don't get me wrong, oversampling is still the way to get the best possible image quality. You can see an example right here, if we shoot 12K and in post convert it down to 4K, you do still get better image quality than shooting in this camera's native 4K mode. But what is really cool here, like I mentioned we don't see a lot of moiré, aliasing, image quality is still very good, but when you drop down to those lower resolutions, rolling shutter does decrease dramatically

Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 12K - Mirrorless cameras need these features!

However, the resolution cap on the 120 footage and lack of 240fps are a bit stifling--I frequently shoot pours/drops/sprays/splashes/etc. that could really use the extra frames. The Ursa 12K is impressive for res and frame rates, but it's too much camera and I simply can't justify the price.

 So the LCD lights up and you've got your audio levels here and various other settings including the frame rate and the memory status and you've got timecode across here. Now for this exercise I'm going to be recording using a little Samsung T7 SSD, very fast and should be suitable for this so that just plugs into the back here. It plugs into this super speed USB, a very high speed port designed to handle these very high data rates. And if I open the door here you can see a number of features

 You've got a choice of 12K, 8K, 6K or 4K and for each of those settings you've got a series of compressions that you can change. You can choose in this case with 12K you can have, if you're working as this one set up to do with constant bit rate, you've got a choice of 5 to 1, 8 to 1, 12 to 1 or 18 to 1 compression and the difference is that this is obviously the highest quality, we'll give you the sharpest pictures, the best resolution from the superb Super 35 sensor inside the camera but it can also put a huge strain on your resources and your editing computer unless it's really up to high spec standards. So you can actually get away with going right down to 12 or 18 to 1 compression and because of the power of the Super 35 sensor you'll get extremely good pictures at much much lower data rates that are much much easier to handle. But I'll put it back up here to 5 to 1

 So down in this open window here is the menu button which you press there and this brings up the main menu. So it's set at the moment on 12K.  That's very important. As I say for today I'm going to be recording on an SSD through the high speed port at the rear. A great big V-Lock battery on the back here and then I turn it around and you can see the screen here, a very very clear LCD screen which has got a series of menus. Each menu's got a series of little buttons at the bottom and you can step through the pages very easily to get to the one you want

Poly Studio P5 Overview - Video and Audio Tests

 Pricing seems about right and has not inflated due to COVID shortages that some brands have expereicned.

Now working from home 3 days a week and set up a permanent office space, it became glaringly obvious that the built-in webcam in my work laptop was not going to cut it. I suffered from a huge amount of glare and a washed-out image due to a window in my home office. Using the Studio P5 has eliminated these two issues and could be dialed in quickly using Poly's software. The wider angle of the lens has provided a more natural viewpoint when on Video calls which is important if you don't like the blur features in products like MS Teams

 Image quality is sharp with little noise even in low light conditions. One area which could do with improvement is the autofocus; on occasion, the camera can refocus every few minutes for a split second despite looking in focus. I hope this can be amended in a future firmware update. The mounting bracket feels solid and easily adjusted

So you can adjust some of the settings on this camera, but let's get to the fun stuff, let's plug it into the computer, so you can see exactly how this webcam looks all right.  Now, if you're, using a built-in webcam on your laptop or you don't, have a webcam and you're doing video conferences, it's not in a the best experience that you could have. It'S always a little bit awkward when you have your video turned on, and then somebody on the other side of a video conference doesn't have their video on it kind of feels like you're talking to nobody, or you know it just feels a little bit disconnected as If you were talking to somebody face to face, but they had their back turned to you almost it's it's this weird experience, so you want to make sure that you have a webcam if you're doing any video meetings of any kind and then, of course, the microphone Built in here helps your voice be heard if you have no microphone at all, but of course we always recommend going with a headset for the best overall experience and we can help you find the right headsets cameras and speakerphones. So now this is the p5, and this is what it looks like in comparison to the logitech, which is also another very popular model. So this gives you a good idea of the video quality that a webcam per can produce for you being that a lot of us are doing a lot of video meetings

Poly Studio P5 Webcam Review - LIVE MIC + VIDEO TEST!

 Crystal clear video, to the point where we were getting comments from others using their laptop & other external WebCams. Works best with proper lighting but even in low lighting / sitting with your back to the window rather than facing it, the camera does adjust to the subject pretty well. It is really easy to set up, the drivers install on their own so it is quick and simple to swap it between computers as needed. But at this price, getting one for each computer is not a huge deal

We finally got around to using this camera for a few calls at different times of the day. We expected good quality because it is HD, but we did not expect it to be as good as it is! The Poly Studio P5 webcam has one huge problem

 I was on the class reunion just a few days ago, and so we had like a dance party reunion type thing and then I was using just my MacBook laptop and it was at night and I was seeing you know they had it set up. So they highlighted different people throughout the thing. Boy. I got ta tell you, the MacBook did not did not provide the quality of picture that I thought it would by itself, because I hadn't used the native webcam on the MacBook

 You're, looking for just for something to be better than your standard, laptop webcam or the built-in webcam or or even, if you're, still using your smartphone for talking to clients video-wise. Now this webcam really takes some of the features that Polycom has been known for and puts it in a really small package.. And so if we were to say first of all, who is this for Dave? Who should be really paying attention? And looking at this, as as the webcam to upgrade, if they're, using something else
