I want something better than a crappy $5. The nicest one I ever had was REI and I think it was like almost $100, but that was a gift. I really can't justify spending more than $40 or something, especially because these are easy to lose and while the more expensive ones are definitely better, like, how much better can they actually be? Here's what I like about this one: I like that there are separate buttons for red and white light. Some headlamps make you go through white lights before you get to red, which makes no sense, especially if you're using red to keep from messing up your night vision

This prevents them from blinding their friends and siblings. The color feature is where this device shines. The ability to change the headlamp to multiple different colors keeps them entertained for hours. I highly recommend this product for small campers

The red LED setting is very bright compared to its peer headlamps and the fact that it has an independent switch for on/off is amazing -- I never understood why manufacturers would put a red LED option to preserve your night vision yet force you to toggle through the white light settings before you could get to the red setting. It has a high quality head band fabricated from elastic and nylon vs. the frizzy cotton or cheap nylon that appears to be so popular with the competition. On the good side, its only $20, so I'm not as nervous as giving him our headlamps to play with, and its diffuse light so he doesn't blind himself.
