The issue I have with it when the rain gets heavier the sleeves become soaked. I do hike a lot in the mountains and their prone to a lot of rainstorms in the summer months

Rain Jacket Recommendations

 I think it's best used where conditions are variable or when traveling fast and light in the mountains. The fit is slim, so bulky layers underneath won't work with this jacket.

You get what you pay for…

 The material also kept the cold sub-30 degree strong winds from getting to me as well. It was slim enough to not interfere with movement (I hate bulky jackets or clothing), and yet roomy enough to allow for me to add several layers underneath when temps were low. That said, if I would have stayed in the cold for longer periods of time without hiking or doing exercise, I believe I would have started to get cold. For colder temps and comfort, I go with my Columbia Men's Last Tracks Jacket

 It was also light enough to backpack with it on and one t-shirt underneath. The armpit vents helped kept me from overheating or gathering moisture as I hiked. Worth it!

Purchased 4 different rain jackets at once (Salomon Explore, Black Diamond StormLine, Outdoor Research Apollo, Mountain Hardwear Stretch Ozonic). I wanted something that would perform dual duty of repelling rain during biking / hiking, as well as look good as a basic jacket when commuting in the city. This jacket seems high quality but has a very loose / baggy fit. I'm 5'6" and went with size Small in all 4 jackets

 Fabric feels very waterproof but not a lot of stretch. Probably great performance for heavy moisture, but too baggy to wear casually and without layers underneath.

I got this to be my all around rain jacket. From walking to the store when it is raining  to hiking 14ers with a helmet on. There are three main reason why I went for this brand and model. 1

I got this, after trying to love the FineLine shell, entirely because it has hand pockets. My hands are a lot happier now. Other than that, the only difference between the StormLine and FineLine is the armpit zippers and velcro wrist tabs vs. elastic wristbands

 The hood is well designed, able to fit over helmets but also cinch down to normal sizes without looking goofy. The material and zippers do a great job of being waterproof. Fit-wise, it's pretty slim, and the sleeves on this (and the FineLine) could definitely be shorter.

 For backpacking, 1 star. If you want a rain jacket that you can depend on and can use for several years, I would highly recommend spending a bit more at the front end and purchasing one with a GoreTex or eVent membrane.

I'm a full time traveler and will be in the Pacific Northwest for the next few months during the rainy season. I love the outdoors and didn't want to let the rain stop me from getting outside. Searching for a decent rain jacket that will keep me dry has become a slight obsession. After visiting a handful of brick and mortar stores as well as reading a ton of Amazon reviews, I settled on getting the Marmot Precip jacket and matching pants

The Precip hit that price point where I felt like I was getting a quality product at a reasonable price

Surprising warmth to weight ratio and doesn't take up much room in my pack. I usually bring along a Marmot Precip as my rain jacket, does the job fine for sub-$100.

Something I really like about this community and something that I appreciate about the lifestyle in general is the minimalist wardrobes I see folks packing for their onebag travel. It's crept into my daily life where I am typically owning and wearing less clothing but of higher quality these days. I really like seeing setups/packs all laid out and packlists always give me good ideas on how to improve my own onebag experience. 

That being said, I'm also a frequent lurker of r/mensfashionadvice and really like the WAYWT (What Are You Wearing Today) threads where people post pics of their daily fits. I think it would be really cool to see something like that for onebaggers, like instead of just posting what clothes you brought rolled up in your bag, seeing pics of your onebag outfits actually being worn (and the versatility of the simple staple pieces) would be really helpful. I know some people aren't necessarily that worried about being fashionable or maybe their focus is more utilitarian, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that would be interested in this?

When I'm trying to make a smart purchase on travel clothing like wool shirts or travel pants (especially the elusive "oneshoe" lol), I often see things that are suggested that are not very fashionable, and I totally get that some people couldn't care less about that so they are suggesting it based on how versatile/useful/etc the piece may be... but I am usually thinking about how they look and fit on me. Seeing pictures of people actually wearing some of the clothes they pack would be pretty cool.

Onebag Outfits?

This jacket was great until it wore out in less than a year.  A little background: I work as a bicycle messenger in Minneapolis year-round so I was looking for the lightest, most breathable rain jacket out there. This definitely fits the bill, and while you're still gonna sweat while being active in this jacket, it does better than most at breathing out vapor, so I stayed comfortable.  The fit of this jacket is interesting

One Year Later

5'7 170lb athletic and muscular me *(broad shoulders and all) fit in a men's small just fine. It packs up well, dried quick and will be a great addition to many of my adventures for a while to come. Black Diamond is my favorite brand but Marmot did very well with this coat. Kudos to them!

 But I've yet to find one jacket like this that did it's job that was 100% breathable.

Some reviews just make me facepalm

Took this on a climbing trip this last weekend.  Had some light rain our last morning.  This this had not issue keep that, or the gradually increasing breeze, out.  Found the hood adjustment (velcro and strap) to be very helpful as the hood is quite large with you don't have anything on your head
