The red LED setting is very bright compared to its peer headlamps and the fact that it has an independent switch for on/off is amazing -- I never understood why manufacturers would put a red LED option to preserve your night vision yet force you to toggle through the white light settings before you could get to the red setting. It has a high quality head band fabricated from elastic and nylon vs. the frizzy cotton or cheap nylon that appears to be so popular with the competition. Positives: with most of the weight in the back and the light itself being very light, this thing stays put! Which is great for night runs. I love the adjustability of the brightness and I had no issue with the battery life. The adjustability of the straps is great, it is pretty easy to get a nice snug fit.

I want something better than a crappy $5. The nicest one I ever had was REI and I think it was like almost $100, but that was a gift. I really can't justify spending more than $40 or something, especially because these are easy to lose and while the more expensive ones are definitely better, like, how much better can they actually be? Here's what I like about this one: I like that there are separate buttons for red and white light. Some headlamps make you go through white lights before you get to red, which makes no sense, especially if you're using red to keep from messing up your night vision

Based on these experiences, I would never opt to take this on a backpacking or other overnight outdoor adventure. I will definitely try it for running (it is called the sprinter, after all) as our nights fall earlier and for skiing when the snow falls. I expect it to perform well enough for those activities--which is why I titled this review "a one trick pony."

I loved the red lamp on the back for safety. Great feature. I wish they could find a way to make the casing for batteries smaller and this still feels bulky.
