 There's a little plastic doodad here that's supposed to clip into the poles and hold them but to be honest after literally a few uses they wear a bit and they don't really hold properly but it doesn't matter because the bungees here on the bag will actually just hold the poles together when you're not using them. And you just simply put the bungee around like that which you can do, I can even do one-handed look while I'm videoing and then that just holds your poles just in front of you here so you would have with your chest here you'd have a water bottle on your chest like I have in a few pouches of things and then I tend to put either one pole on either side or two poles in one which I kind of prefer actually. Extended this one's 110 I'm about five foot seven I'd say I'm five eight but I'm not five for seven. If you're a slightly taller bloke if you're above five foot ten five foot eleven you probably want 120 but most people the 110 suits and to pack them up super easy and I'm even going to try it one-handed so there's a very little button here a little metal button that you just press in here we go see if I can do it with one hand yeah so you just press the button in and then the handle slides down a little bit and then that gives the leeway for these to just pull apart and they kind of fold themselves like the magic of cinema they fold themselves together like that so and these little bits at the end do a superb job of just holding these bits together and obviously as you can imagine when you're trekking if you've got these mounted on the front of your bag you simply take pull them out the bungees I tend to hold them here let go and they drop down and then all you do is you can see they're loose this little section here you grab it firmly you said and pull and you'll hear the snap and that button locks in that little bottle that little button there locks in and now the pole is super sturdy and ready to use so they're super quick and easy to deploy they're super strong they're super lightweight I've tried various makes and models of carbon trekking poles and broken almost all of them but these are my absolute favorites and they're the ones that I use so there you go that just gives you a little bit of a look at the black diamond carbon distance Z poles and why they're an absolute favorite of mine

 So they pack up into sort of three pieces, they go through the two bungees on an Ultimate Direction on the front there so you can see they'll just sit on the front of a backpack so that you can easily grab them and stow them away again super super fast.  It feels like I'm an animal with four legs. It makes perfect sense. I really am digging these if you can't tell already. And I feel like they've come a long way towards the ski thing with the grip

 And I think what's different now is that this is all carbon fiber, it's super light and it's a little bit smaller than the trekking poles I've used in the past or the ones I've tested. This is a 120 centimeter, they go from like 110 to 130 so this is right in the middle range. I wouldn't want anything any higher, this is about the same size I use for skiing and it feels just right. It feels like an extension of my hands

 It's got a nice ergonomic grip and a great little pole strap too that I'm used to. The way you want to run the pole strap is you want to adjust it first of all, it has a nice little Velcro adjustment. You want to come up through the bottom, okay, and then you actually grab the whole strap and go around the pole. That way when you pull down the strap is actually holding your hand up on the pole so you don't have to grip the poles as tight which is really nice because you can relax your hands a little bit and you can actually just kind of use the strap

 I really am digging these if you can't tell already. And I feel like they've come a long way towards the ski thing with the grip. In my experience, if you go carbon you’re going to be coming home with a snapped pole at some point if you’re doing anything adventurous or other than well maintained trails. Not worth the 2oz savings IMO. I’ve been using the fixed length distance z so far this season. I actually prefer the fixed length

I've previously owned a set of CMT poles that have gotten the job done for the last 4 years. The adhesive on the cork grips has finally given out, allowing the grips to slide up and down the pole when any sort of weight is put upon them, so looking to replace and/or upgrade at the moment. 

Requirements:
- Telescope adjustable (from at minimum 105-115cm)
- Under 16oz/pair
- Reliable durability (used with my Tarptent Notch so a break would be disruptive to any trip)
- Replaceable tips for long term wear 

Things I'd like, but not necessary:
- Under 12oz/pair
- Cork grips
- Removable baskets and straps
- Under $150
- Able to get by 7/21 in Denver area
- Comes with baskets

I've looked at the BD Alpine Carbon Cork, but they really don't seem to offer much more for significantly higher price than the CMTs. I do like the sturdier lock system and an ability to attach whippets (WR model), but I think I'd rather find something with a lower carry weight than prioritize those features.

GG LT5 (10oz/pair) look promising but expensive (nearly $200) and based on some reviews I'm unsure how they'd fare durability wise in the rough alpine terrain of the CO Rockies.

Fizian Compact 3 (11oz/pair) - no cork grip but cheap ($70) and light. Curious if anyone with experience with these could comment, I suspect these are in the same class as CMTs but again concerned with durability.

Do durable, UL and adjustable hiking poles exist?

These things are seriously light. I got some good ones: Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z poles. When I took them out of the box I was shocked how light they were.

Pay attention to the size you need based on your height. I know some aren’t a fan of the “z” style compact form factor but I wanted an option that travels well, via airplane or car and this seems to be the best option. Very light weight. TBD on durability and quality

 These tips are the carbide tips. They come supplied with rubber tips. Just ditch the rubber tips. Rubber tips will not will not grab on to soil properly and they will wear through

 Let me take them apart so you can see what I'm talking about. So once you take them apart they look like this. They're just connected with a I think it's some sort of Kevlar and then there's a protective rubber coating. You want to be kind of delicate with these of course you know don't abuse them but I've already hiked 250 miles on the trail and I've also hiked preparation hikes with these and they are doing great

 Just ditch the rubber tips. Rubber tips will not will not grab on to soil properly and they will wear through. They might have some limited application someplace but maybe if you're going solely on rock or on finished surfaces like roadways but if not carbide tips are the way to go. These poles are easy to use lightweight and comfortable. I used them in the 2018 Never Summer 100k which had 13,000 feet of climbing including several mountain summits. These poles worked like a champ! On the rugged sections they were sturdy and took my weight when I stumbled with no problems. On the runable sections they are so light that holding them in hand is no burden at all
