 Here at VD we are one with the sports we serve and what that means is living in the mountains,

 experiencing these sports, climbing, running, skiing, going to the gym and when it comes

 to creating tools and footwear to meet those needs, nobody can bring it like VD.

 There isn’t much arch support so I swapped the insole for one with more support. These shoes are quite narrow and probably wouldn’t work well for wider feet. One thing that disappointed me was that the construction seems so so. In certain parts you can see the glue and it looks like the rubber doesn’t quite line up

 PS, sizing is pretty spot on, but they are sized to fit a bit more snug than most sneakers so if you plan on wearing them casually, you might want to size up a half size.

I just received these and honestly I’m blown away by the comfort! I have not worn them outside yet but just from walking indoors they feel wonderful. Just the right amount of support, snug, but still roomy enough in the tow box. There isn’t much arch support so I swapped the insole for one with more support. Holy cow, these are comfy!

These shoes are not supportive and rubber is excessively "sticky" yet provides no grip. I wear these shoes almost daily and they are falling apart after just 5 months. Holes are developing where the rubber toes join the soft top materials. The foam sole of the shoe is getting "picked" and rough from light contact with other surfaces

Poor materials and craftsmanship

Sticky rubber is a requirement for approach shoes and Black Diamond delivers with the Circuit. Their proprietary Black Label-Street rubber proved tacky on granite and limestone which bolstered confidence on well-worn slabs. The rubber rand around the forefoot helped mitigate both abrasions and impacts.

The fit is tighter than a casual shoe, but not as form-fitting as a true approach shoe. The fit felt appropriate for getting to my local sport crags which aren’t in mountainous regions. I would want a tighter fit for more involved treks. I found the amount of snugness the perfect compromise between performance and comfort for a lifestyle-oriented shoe that can still travel to the cliffs

The outsole knobs are short; this meant limited traction on loose over hardpacked terrain, but the tradeoff was less squirm on stone. The outsole has a solid perimeter around the forefoot, which usually adds to edging ability, but the softness of the shoe hampered this on anything other than large features.

As a casual, in town shoe, I found the Circuit to be super comfortable as I prefer flexible and light shoes when not loaded with gear; these shoes were supple right out of the box and they have a verified weight of 1 pound, 2 ounces per pair in a men’s size 10.

 I originally ordered them in an 8 and they were way too small with a hiking sock on. Based on how small the 8 was I sized up to a 9. I wanted to have the option so wear a slightly thicker sock with them and the 9 was the right choice even though I was hesitant to go up a whole size from what I wear in some shoes. Overall happy with my purchase

I bought these to use as a casual sneaker for daily use. They are comfortable and look good with jeans which was what I was looking for. I wear an 8 and sometimes an 8.5

Now the first thing i want to talk about is the upper you've got a lot of different materials here and a lot of features in the upper that keep you comfortable, but also give you that secure fit that you need during your approach. So you've got rough out leather that is incredibly durable over the long haul and it breaks in really well in addition to that, you've got sticky Vibram that goes around pretty much the whole shoe you've got a rubber toe Rand here, and that is sticky Vibram rubber

 Now the first thing i want to talk about is the upper you've got a lot of different materials here and a lot of features in the upper that keep you comfortable, but also give you that secure fit that you need during your approach. So you've got rough out leather that is incredibly durable over the long haul and it breaks in really well in addition to that, you've got sticky Vibram that goes around pretty much the whole shoe you've got a rubber toe Rand here, and that is sticky Vibram rubber. This really gives you that fit that you need that secure fit over the lifetime of the shoe. So while some of the other parts of the shoe will break in and fit your feet really well, these parts of the shoe are going to eliminate stretch over time

 You'Ve got an incredibly dense midsole here and it is closed-cell rubber, micropore evie, a rubber, and it's also pretty lightweight so wow. It is a very dense material, a very rigid material. You don't have a whole lot of bend in this shoe. You know if you break it in a little bit: you're gon na have a little bit of Bend, but this really is meant to be a rigid shoe to give you all of that purchase on the rock

 So the midsole here is just as a couple different types of materials, but is meant to last a long time and give a really secure hold moving down to the outsole. You do have Vibram hydro grip, which is the stickiest rubber compound on the market today. So this is going to give you all of that traction that you need now that is mixed with the lugs here. It'S the LA Sportiva impact brake system and the lug pattern is opposing an opposite and that really cuts down on the shock of hard rock

 The tongue of the shoe is padded, so it feels pretty luxurious for an approach shoe when you slip it on your foot. The interior of the shoe is tight and hugs your foot, making it feel more like a comfy trad shoe than a trail runner or a hiking boot.

La Sportiva’s Boulder X is definitely less minimal than the 5.10 Guide Tennie. The tongue of the shoe is padded, so it feels pretty luxurious for an approach shoe when you slip it on your foot. The interior of the shoe is tight and hugs your foot, making it feel more like a comfy trad shoe than a trail runner or a hiking boot

My only complaint in regards to sizing (and this won’t be an issue for most peopole) is that I had to break the shoes in significantly before I could fit my insoles comfortably. Before then, the snug, conforming nature of the shoe meant that there was no excess room for a light insole. However, after wearing the Boulder X all summer, I can now comfortably fit both my foot and my insole inside.

I consulted a podiatrist who diagnosed plantar fasciitis and Morton's neuroma. He said to get a RIGID shoe with a low rise (it should not bend where shoe soles normally flex on walking)

Over time the padding of the soles of my feet has disappeared (I'm 75+ and have fast-walked daily since early 1970s ) so barefoot it feels like I'm walking on bones.
