Comfort is most important. Comfortable boots will let you enjoy your hikes and get you out there more often. Try on several brands, styles, and models. As for brands, I would recommend LA Sportiva, Merrell, Keen, Salomon, Vasque, and Asolo.

The sgoes are definately quality, and still comfy. The sizeing is a bit off, these pairs are about a half size smaller then advertised.

I've used approach shoes for light backpacking (mainly in service of trips where caving was the destination). La Sportiva Boulder X and Five Ten Guide Tennies both have Spider-Man grip and enough support for modest pack weight.

Getting after it in Hawaii, got them just for the trip. They took anything I dealt out, great grip, great support. That being said, they get wet and heavy rather easily. I personally love my La Sportiva boots. They’re comfy and survive snow and mud. They’re basically hiking boots made by a climbing shoe company.

Unfortunately you can’t try on if you purchase something online. The shoes itself is good fit comfortable but it is not good to use for example drive a car which I did not know. The sole of the shoes too hard to feel the pedals and it slips very easily.

They are one of my favorite boots. Last 10 years. I tried Lowa this round. So I will see how many years they last. The Swiss swear by La Sportiva for its resoling.

While we love Sportive products in general these shoes run small and we waited too long to return this pair. So we had to modify the back with a slice down the heel section.
