 So like I said it's kind of on the bigger side for a touring ski. If you're lucky enough that you're touring and seeking out a lot of soft snow maybe not like quite as deep as you would take the the ferrex freebird for but you wouldn't choose this if you're just touring at your local resort and you're coming up and down a groomer. You should probably at least be encountering some un-groomed terrain and and ideally some softer snow. This is the 176 centimeter length so I think this is an important conversation with this ski almost 1900 grams

 Today we're talking about the Black Crows Corvus Freebird.

 This is in their touring line of their catalog of how Black Crows organizes their skis.

 Among touring skis, this thing's pretty wide and it's also pretty strong.

 With that comes along with a heavier weight than I'd say a lot of touring skis and we can kind of

 chat about that as we go through it. But awesome ski, it's back for 2023 without any substantial

 changes to anything, construction shape or color. I love the vibrant pink and a super awesome ski.

 I actually know I have some local friends that ski on this thing quite a bit and yeah there's a

 lot to like about it. So poplar wood core in this ski, that's actually a little denser than we would

 get in a lot of touring skis. You know you see a lot of use of polonia or caruba or wood like that

 that's less dense. So poplar as a start to the construction here already gives it a stronger

 feel than most. And then we do get a little bit of titanal underfoot mostly just for binding

 retention but that will add some stability, add some vibration damping, just give it a stronger

 more stout feel right underfoot here. And then we get some carbon kind of woven into the fiberglass

 as well. So you know add up all those things and the flex pattern of this ski is pretty strong,

 pretty strong and also responsive and kind of bouncy. It's got some nice energy to it.

 Looking at shape, you know we've got a rocker camber rocker shape here unlike the non-freebird

 corvus which is flat. So you can you know you can see that there's some rocker in the ski

 but we do get long tip rocker as well. So tip rocker starts say about somewhere around the

 black crow's logo or the bottom of the black crow's logo there and then tail rocker actually

 interestingly is is pretty similar you know kind of right at the end of the of the logo there.

 So not a tremendous amount of rocker but enough to increase its float you know increase its

 maneuverability while still remaining or retaining good strength underfoot as well. 107 underfoot

 107 underfoot in this ski 21 meter turn radius. So like I said it's kind of on the bigger side

 for a touring ski. If you're lucky enough that you're touring and seeking out a lot of soft snow

 maybe not like quite as deep as you would take the the ferrex freebird for but you wouldn't

 choose this if you're just touring at your local resort and you're coming up and down a groomer.

 in it in its name or the freebird indication in its name. There's nothing wrong with putting

 like a hybrid resort alpine binding on it or a resort touring binding on it and kind of using

 it for both applications. So like we looked at it's got a pretty strong flex pattern it's got some

 decent vibration damping. There's no reason why you can't ski this ski in the resort. In fact the

 people that I know that own it and that really like it that's exactly what they do with it.

 You know if we get a bunch of snow maybe they'll take it to the resort first kind of enjoy some

 lift laps on on fresh snow and then later on that same day or the next morning go on a touring

 mission with it and try and find some some more soft snow you know stuff that wasn't just tracked

 out at the resort. So it's super fun ski I do think it has a really nice blend of feeling

 both stable and playful. I almost think of it more like in a lot of ways it's sort of more

 of a touring version of the atris than it is of the non-freebird corvus. That corvus is very

 strong very stiff with two sheets of metal. This does have a little bit more playfulness in it not

 as much rocker rise as an atris but maybe somewhere in between those two things is a better

 way to think about it. But yeah super super fun gonna be a great choice for somebody who

 is touring is encountering soft snow but also wants some strength and quite a bit of versatility in

 their ski. So that's it that's the corvus freebird from Black Crows. Let us know if you have any

 This is just the place that I was skiing them, so I'm going to speak to these from that perspective. So the brand claims that this is a really awesome ski for touring, primarily going to be great in heavier snowfall, lighter snow, anything in the backcountry. They're going to do really well uphill, but they're still going to be a competent ski on the downhill, particularly when you're skiing powder
