Best Braided Line 2021 - Berkley FireLine Superline - YouTube

This is my preferred fishing line. I use it in weight ratings from 4lb to 20lb exclusively on spinning reels. It is strong, reliable, and casts extremely well.

It rarely frays, even when dragged across beach sand over-and-over, or dragged across snags and logs. It's a two-year, maybe three-year, line.

Using either a Modified Albright or an Alberto's knot to join it to a backing or a leader, and a carefully tied Palomar to tie to a swivel, it has never failed me at the knot. I have never had it break-off (Disclaimer: I haven't hooked a twenty pound fish on 4lb FireLine, but I have landed a 9lb fish on 4lb line).

It costs, but if I get two years out of it, the purchase price balances out. And if it last three years (and I think it will) I come out ahead.

I was so happy to find this on Amazon since it's much cheaper to buy it here than from a beading store or beading website!

You just need to be really careful not to knot your projects; quite a few beading instructors have been warning that knots will break with this, and I've seen it happen when they demonstrate it.

Not just for fishing -- this is great for beaders, too!

 It might be good for some uses as bead thread, but a 300 yard spool is pretty big and pricey. I will be more careful about getting the right weight next time.

 First cast on that Berkeley, with that Berkeley six pound test and I detected that bite easy. Holy cow, that line is so set, oh look at that guys, hook right in the roof of the mouth. Detected that bite like crazy though, holy cow, let's release this feller, sea of fish. It's a little bit windy today, winds are about, I'd say just under ten, gusting under ten, so we got some chops, a little bit of chops here in this little tiny pond

This is like our cousin's pond, this is our proving grounds when we're testing new stuff. Yeah, it's insane, it's insane how sensitive this line is for how thin it is, I mean look at that, I don't know if you guys can see that but it's really thin and trying to see this line out here, you know with the waves going along the water, like you're just waiting to feel that bite because you really can't see the line that easy

 First the bite, there we go, we got it, we got it, yep we got it, there we go. She's heavy, look at that belly, look at that belly, holy cow, oh look at that, another good hook set, right over the nose, look at that guys, she is, she is fat, look at that belly for a small fish, alright three fish. I'm pretty impressed with this Berkeley Fireline Smoke line and at six pound test I mean it's excellent for my like ultra finesse set up here, I got my six foot two medium light, it's almost like an ultra light to ultra light rod, it's crazy how much you can detect those bites and hopefully you guys go out there and get yourself one to try.

 I guess an advantage of this line is it being so thin but yet very strong is if you're doing a lot of finesse tactics, I mean the fish will probably have a really hard time seeing this line underwater. Alright guys, just for comparison, the one above is the Berkeley Fireline Smoke six pound test and the one below is the Berkeley Fireline Crystal, but at eight pounds test. Oh there's a bite, there's a bite, there we go, there we go, we got it, oh yeah, he's a jumper, got it. Alright guys, wow, it's crazy how you can really detect the bite, oh wow, perfect hook set again, look at that, right on the roof of the mouth guys, whoo, nice, yeah I see it boils over there so I'm gonna focus back on that side, that's where I caught the first fish

Today, I went out to a small pond for a quick test and first impression review of the Berkley Fireline Smoke 6lb. test spooled on my 6'2" Daiwa D-Shock Medium Light Spinning Rod. 

Last night I went to a local Academy store and found that the Berkley Fireline Smoke was on sale for $14.99 for the 10lb.+ lines, but when I did a price scan for the 6lb. test it only rang up for $5.98, so I decided to buy a few.

For the last few months, I've been using the Berkley Fireline Crystal 8lb. Braid line for my wacky rig and it's been an amazing line to use for this finesse rig for bass.  So I figured maybe I can downsize to a much smaller diameter line and see how it does when bass fishing.

First impressions is that the line is very thin, super thin! Second, for such a thin line it's super strong and the only way to try it out was to catch some bass!  It's also super smooth, slick, and when it spools out on a cast it just glides along the eyes of the rod.  Didn't have an issue at all (even with some winds) casting this with only a soft plastic on a drop shot hook a mile out! 

It is harder to see than the Crystal version especially when there are waves on the water from wind, and so with today's conditions, I really had to rely on bite detection.  Soon enough, the first cast gets me a bite quick and it didn't give me any problems at all getting that bass out of the water and catching a few more along the way before heading back home.

I would say, that I would definitely recommend this braid line to others especially for finesse rigs.  It's braid yet it does sink a bit when partnered up with the right stuff.  The only thing I think I would have a problem with is if you're a visual person, this thin line would probably get a bit of getting used to being able to see it, but on clear and calm day it shouldn't be a problem at all!
