If you want to ride it without the motor on you want to go as light as you can. The ride1up roadster v2 is only 33lbs with a 350w motor, the radmission is under 50lbs with a 500w motor, the storybike story road bike is 33lbs with a 350w motor, and the babymaker pro is 33.2lbs with a 350w motor. Those lighter bikes will feel a lot better on the road if you are planning to ride with the motor off

Hi everyone! I'm yet another newbie to ebikes looking to make my first purchase. I've done enough research to be overwhelmed with the options and would really appreciate some guidance in finding "the one."

Background: I started cycling as an adult about 8 months ago on a basic mountain bike purchased for a song from my local bicycle coop. I've ridden about 375 miles since then, almost all on bike paths because being on the road in Atlanta is terrifying when you can't pedal fast enough to get out of the way or approach a hill and can't conquer it. Those are the main reasons I want an ebike - to get over those hills, give myself a larger area to ride when I can get up to speed on roads with cars, and extend my range when cycling with stronger/more experienced friends. I still want to exercise and get stronger with my ebike, just with not as much struggle as my manual bike.

Expected use: I mainly want to ride in town or at least on paved roads with the occasional dirt/gravel section of a bike path. While the idea of mountain biking sounds romantic, I don't think I'm there yet. I'd also love to start commuting via bike to work, which I absolutely could not do on my mountain bike. It's 8.5 miles each way, 5.5 miles on bike paths but 3.0 miles on roads with cars, 1.0 mile of which is a heavily trafficked road that's scary even in a car.

Test rides: I've tried the Magnum Navigator, a Gazelle something, Edison (local Atlanta ebike), and the Ride1Up 700 series. I've preferred the hub drive/cadence sensor over the torque sensing options. I thought the Ride1Up checked all my boxes on paper but it felt too big and bulky in person. I have a 32" inseam and have preferred the more traditional frames to the step throughs, and I like a more aggressive/forward riding style versus a laid back cruiser. I've enjoyed the responsiveness of hydraulic brakes (esp. considering I want to go fast on the main roads), but I don't know that I've seen them on more "entry level" ebikes.

Wants: Gears and PAS 0 (so I can ride like a "manual bike" when I can), removable battery (so I can charge at my office), throttle (for intersections and to get up to speed/out of the way quickly), not too heavy/bulky, under $2000 (less is better as I imagine if this sticks I'll want to upgrade later).
