 When it comes to the audio chain, none of the thing happens digital here. That sounds a little bit weird in the first place, but if you think about that, you have a good turntable, a good vinyl, and at the end you put a shitty USB output with a very cheap HDD conversion stage, you just kind of ruin it at the finish line, and we just don't want to do this. So we give you pure audio quality analog from the beginning to the end, and we have a knowledge in cartridge. That's our core competence, and we say that's what we need to bring to DJs as well

A turntable for DJs from Audio-Technica: AT-LP140XP #NAMM2019

  If you are an audiophile on a budget (or just don't need a super high-end turntable), I feel that the AT-LP120XUSB will do the job very nicely.

 Speaking of which, this turntable uses the universal DJ style cartridge head-shells. So, audiophiles can have more than one cartridge available if so desired. The AT-LP120XUSB has a switchable internal phono preamp for those amps and receivers that do not have an onboard phono preamp. All cables [AND a ground connection] are detachable

Better Than what I Was Expecting

 I know that the suggested tracking weight for the cartridge is between two and four grams but the greater the tracking weight, the louder the thumping. It is also very sensitive in a way that my old Thorens was not as LPs that played fine on it have play with one or two skips on the AT. As I am not an audiophile per se, any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated here!  All said, I certainly hope Audio-Technica keeps this model in production indefinitely!!

  I do have a couple of issues, though, which may very well be down to things I need to do. First of all, I do notice that with some of my LPs, I can detect a thumping kind of sound between tracks. My old Thorens belt drive finally bit the dust after almost 25 years. Needless to say, purchasing a new turntable, and fast, was a top priority for me.  This cost me less than the Thorens, but I have to say that, for me, this is the superior turntable. This thing is a beast!! Very solidly constructed, super easy to set up and use, it sounds great! The great reviews are certainly justified

 It features all of the same functionality and adjustability, and its removable head shell even can accept the same types of cartridges as the costlier Technics. Speaking of cartridges, the included cartridge from Audio Technica is solid. Actually, it's very surprising given the budget nature of this turntable. It's a very punchy sounding cartridge

 And in that video, I raved about that turntable, how much I loved its build quality, its sound quality, I just loved it. What I didn't love about it was its price tag and the fact that because it's a limited edition turntable, it was sold out within about a week of that video going live. So when I came across today's little gem, I just, I knew it was going to be our next turntable review because it bears more than a striking resemblance to some of Technics, well, more iconic design. So the question for me was, how good is it really, you know, it being a budget turntable, but more importantly, how good could it get? So that's the question we're going to answer today

 It has good low end weight and some dynamics, though I'm not going to say that it's lightening quick or the firmest down low. The mid-range is more full-bodied. And for those of you wondering how the Audio-Technica compares against, say, the 1500C from Technics, which we've reviewed on this channel, straight out of the box or from the factory, the 1500C is the better turntable. But if you upgrade the Audio-Technica using the 2M Black, not only are these two turntables very evenly priced, I'm going to argue that the Audio-Technica is going to give you more functionality, not to mention better performance

AS GOOD AS TECHNICS!? Audio Technica AT-LP140XP RECORD PLAYER Review

 I was looking at the audio technica LP120XUSB however I couldn't get it in black, and I really didn't need the built in preamp or usb so I settled for this even though more expensive I figured it would be more robust since its DJ commercial quality...

He has bought in the brand new Audio Technica turntable and we're just going to have a really quick little chat about it, he's going to pitch it to me mate, he's going to tell me where this is the best thing out in the turntable market right now, so yeah, tell me about it Joe. I've heard of sliced bread, and this is the best thing since, so everyone knows us for our M series headphones and our LP120, well the LP120 has now been replaced by this which is the LP140, really wonderful turntable, of course I would say that, I'm biased. I mean to be fair, first impressions of it, it looks really nice, it looks like something from the past, so yeah, it's kind of hard to break away from that design and plus us DJs are quite fickle aren't we, so we don't really like change too much, so it's kept in the standard format, really cool, high torque motor, the platter, if you don't mind I'll just pop this off, so unlike the 120 that's preceded, this one is actually dampened so we've got rubber dampening here and it helps the balance, also helps with isolation of rumble that you'd get from Laotown systems, so this is the ultimate Audio Technica DJ turntable

 It will be £379 which really creates its own market, you know, there was a turntable in that price range that has the facilities that this does. It's again, excuse the pun, it's punching above its weight really, you can't knock it. I really like the look of it actually, you know, I do like a silver turntable. Well, that's the trick there

 Shipping anytime now, unlike a lot of our previous turntables this is designed for your DJ, this will sit very well in a booth, the quality is unsurpassed, we've been making cartridges for 50 years, this is what we are really known for as a Japanese company and all that technology, all that knowledge has gone into creating the LP140 and the XP range of cartridges. Mate, just something which you did mention before as well, this is the first time from you guys that you can adjust the legs. That's right. Just remind me because you said about it, sitting in a booth, so I thought of it sitting wonky

Which is really cool for creative types, this is turning the turntable almost like a media player because you've got that kind of facilities on there but of course the workflow is slightly different. An interesting feature that we haven't done on our previous DJ turntables is now to adjust the height of the toy arm you have a recession there so it just makes life a lot easier. Now to just adjust it, simple as that

 This most recent version was introduced back in 2016 and has won awards every year since and it's easy to see why the p3 is a belt-driven manual system available in black white or red. The plinth is made from a lightweight particulate core covered with a high gloss, acrylic and then laminated for protection and additional stiffness, like all Riga, turntables. This gives the plants that perfect balance of being lightweight and stable. Riga knows that stability is one of the most important aspects and sound quality, so when they updated to a thicker three millimeter phenolic bottom brace, they also introduced a new metal eyes, skin phenolic top race

Rega Planar 3 Turntable

 For now though, I can't recommend the Marantz PM7000N enough as an all-in-one solution. It sounds great and handles everything I've thrown at it from folk to hip-hop to shoegaze. Currently putting them through their paces with some Guru and Tribe Called Quest.

 The detail is bonkers, and it's nice having a bit more bass 'cause I don't think my neighbor across the hall would appreciate a subwoofer. My next upgrade is replacing the Fluance RT82 with a Rega Planar 3 (unless someone has a better recommendation in the $1000 range) next year around this time, and then I'll probably start looking into cutting the receiver up into separate components a year after that. For now though, I can't recommend the Marantz PM7000N enough as an all-in-one solution. It sounds great and handles everything I've thrown at it from folk to hip-hop to shoegaze

Picked up the second half of my new speaker set (don't ask) today and I can't even believe the difference. Previously I was using a pair of ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2, which are fine, but these KEF Q750s are just a whole other league

Marks out of ten, now that’s a bit difficult. I’m not saying it’s unimprovable, but the Audiolab/Denton combo works really well and I’d say it’s a more grown-up system than most. Everyone who’s listened to my Dentons or Lintons comes away impressed; more consistently than any others I’ve had. But we’re talking your ears, your taste

OK, great amp and speakers. Have those myself. Not sure you need the DAC as you’ll discover the Audiolab’s DAC is pretty good, but as everybody but me seems to be convinced that an external DAC is the passport to audiophile pleasure and credibility, we’ll let that pass for the moment.

 But I love the Dentons and next to the Lintons, my main speakers, they stand up really well. Eventually they’ll be the rear speakers for my own version of surround, and the mains for my mono system (which you’ll realise will be at the other end of the room).

I don’t find the Dentons too shrill, but I’m 65 so I guess I don’t hear as much up there as younger ones do.  Nonetheless, I’m going to implement the “proven” solution of replacing one of each speaker’s link strips with a 1-ohm 5 watt resistor to balance the sound a little better. But I love the Dentons and next to the Lintons, my main speakers, they stand up really well. Eventually they’ll be the rear speakers for my own version of surround, and the mains for my mono system (which you’ll realise will be at the other end of the room)

It does OK on LPs but compared directly with my aged Thorens TD160 it’s some way short. I also have a Rega Planar 2 for mono LPs (remember the mono system?). That’s a significant upgrade over the AT120, old model or new, but cheaper than the Planar 3 and, critically, less upgradeable. The 3 is a potential money pit as you can upgrade it to the full Planar 6 spec. I find the 2 is pretty good and luckily I caught an ex-demo one at around 25% off. Plenty of other options, though, so worth checking some out. I tend to favour belt-drive, and the Rega being UK-made was a plus for me.
