Asus ROG Strix Gaming RTX 3090 Review, Thermals, Overclocking & Gaming Benchmarks

 Welcome back to Harbour On Box. Today we are taking a look at the ASUS STRIX Gaming RTX

 3090 graphics card. And as you can see, this one is another massive RTX 3090. I think they're

 all going to be pretty big, but yeah, we have another huge RTX 3090 to check out today.

 But given how impressed I was with the ASUS RTX 3080 TUF Gaming, I'm very keen to see

 what this STRIX model has for us. Of course, I would also like to check out the RTX 3080

 STRIX card because I suspect that's one that most of you are probably interested in. But

 for now, we have the RTX 3090 version. And we also have... Today's video sponsor is MSI.

 Okay, so let's start by looking at the card. Design-wise, I think the ROG STRIX gaming

 version of the RTX 3090 looks quite good. ASUS is going with an industrial-type look

 here featuring a number of silver aluminium trimmings that are secured to the plastic

 fan shroud using stainless steel torque screws. It is interesting to note that ASUS has gone

 with a plastic shroud here, whereas the cheaper base model TUF Gaming version receives an

 all-aluminium design, but both do look good and appear very sturdy. They also use the

 same AxialTech fans, so again, we've got three 90mm fans with the centrally located

 fan spinning counterclockwise to reduce turbulence. I should also note that the card includes

 a stop fan feature, which activates when the GPU drops below 55 degrees.

 As for dimensions, as mentioned earlier, this thing is a behemoth taking up 2.9 slots at

 58mm wide, so in other words, it takes up 3 slots. It also measures 319mm long, stands

 140mm tall, and weighs in at 1,756g, so quite a bit heavier than the 1,570g of the MSI Gaming

 X TRIO 3090, but also quite a bit lighter than the 2,172g of NVIDIA's Founders Edition

 Now, around at the backside of the card, we find a full-size backplate with an opening

 at the end that allows air to pass through, though this pass through really only benefits

 a very small section of the heatsink. The backplate looks quite good though, and we

 find more silver aluminium trimmings, which continue the theme found around on the front

 You might have noticed that this model, like all ASUS RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics cards,

 use MLCC capacitors exclusively behind the GPU for power filtering. We don't yet know

 if this is better than, say, a mixture of MLCC and SP caps, especially when talking

 about overclocking, but the results seen with models such as the TUF Gaming have been good.

 Then, around at the I.O. end of the card, we find 2 HDMI 2.1 ports and 3 DisplayPort

 1.48 outputs. So that's an extra HDMI output when compared to NVIDIA's FE version, though

 please note it can still only support up to 4 displays simultaneously. ASUS is again including

 a stainless steel I.O. bracket, which they say protects against rust, while providing

 Now just quickly, let's talk about RGB lighting, which can be found on the edge of the card,

 so the section facing outwards when traditionally mounted. ASUS has gone with a fancy light

 bar type design, which can be controlled using their Armoury Crate software, and I have to

 say the lighting effects are integrated into the design quite well. That is really all

 I have to say about the RGB stuff, so let's move on to tearing down the card.

 As I noted earlier, the ASUS ROG Strix 3090 weighs in at 1756 grams, and 63% of that total

 is accounted for by the heatsink, which weighs an impressive 1112 grams, which is 10% heavier

 than the cooler used by MSI. Design wise it is very different, and despite featuring fairly
