I have a pair of red Back-roller classic. I made zero complaints, used them for two years and they're holding up just fine. 

I am getting my first set of panniers for my touring bike. I will be primarily using for errands locally, occasional work commuting and a couple of credit card weekend tours per year.  Like Ortleib as i have other bags of theirs that i like, but there are so many pannier choices i am not sure how to narrow down those choices.  Appreciate your thoughts.

Seeking opinions on panniers - what model(s) of Ortleib panniers do you like? Errands and 3-4 day weekend tours primary use.

 When it was on the bike it stayed on the bike, and when it was off the bike it sat steadily on the ground without tipping over. 

The design drives me crazy every single time I take the panniers off the bike, because they do not stand up on their own. They always flop over- on the sidewalk, in the house, at the grocery, at the garden, you name it, if they're off the bike, they've flopped over on their sides. Then if you try to carry them, into the store, into work, into the house, they are impossible to carry balanced and at your side. The handle to carry is not on top, and there are not two handles like a shopping bag, but there is one handle on one side of the pannier, so the whole bag tips awkwardly and bangs into your legs if you try to carry these at your sides

In summary, I can't recommend these if you ever plan to take your panniers off of your bike to carry them or set them down.

Disappointing quality and poor design

I purchased these panniers when I committed to a daily bike commute and have used them for nearly two years. The bags have a tight rolling seal and are fantastically waterproof - I have never noticed a leak, even after riding in the worst of rain showers. These panniers are incredibly secure once you adjust them and hang on a rear frame very well.

Overall, it's a great bag. It is definitely the best bag that I have ever owned. Given the overall exceptional quality of the bag, I was very surprised by the design issues that I encountered and have described below:  First, I would suggest is that the front clips have a short piece of strapping between the bag and the clip. These will be the best money you've ever spent for a commuting or touring bag, and they carry 40 pounds of groceries very well too!

Will Outlast Your Bike

  These panniers have made things so much easier.  carrying the weight lower has made my bike smoother in the same way a little weight in the bed makes a pickup smoother.  I don't have to have an unsightly milk crate zip-tied to my back rack all the time.  I don't have to unpack all my cycling gear from my duffel whenever i do a weekend trip

Have been bike commuting 6-10 miles each way per day (sometimes leave from my significant other's house) for a few years now.  Had a milk crate on my back rack and would put my waterproof duffel inside in milk crate.  These panniers have made things so much easier.  carrying the weight lower has made my bike smoother in the same way a little weight in the bed makes a pickup smoother
