I'm going to show you the Arc'teryx Rust Jacket. one of the pinnacle Jack is in the Arctic ski line. so this jacket is a three layered gore-tex It is designed with the backcountry skier in mind. It's got a regular fit, it's one point three ounces so it trims some weight from some of the heavier jackets from Arc'teryx and it's got a heavy duty gore-tex outer and inner so that if you're constantly putting your gear to the test, this is gonna be the jacket for you

 It's got pull strings on the on the hood. It's got a something that'll take the volume out of the hood. So if you don't want to wear your ski helmet and you're using the jacket for other purposes and you have the elements coming down, you can take the volume out of the hood and it makes it smaller so it fits over a baseball cap or a beanie or something like that. There's also essential on the back give you a little more protection around the neck and there's cinches on the front as well on each side right here that'll come down and allow you to shrink the opening in the hood if you are in some really extreme conditions

 It's going to keep you warm, it's going to keep you dry in all conditions, so let's get into it. So on the outside of the jacket, we've got a lot of the standard Arc'teryx features a good easy to work waterproof zipper. This is important as you can do it, use it with one hand. It also has so these pockets are really large

I have had the Patagonia PowSlayer, Patagonia Powder Bowl, and some others and this is by far the best fit. (5-10, 170).

Looking for a new shell jacket - something nice, primarily for active resort/sidecountry use, in Europe. 

What are people recommending these days, and what should I avoid? 

I'm 5ft 8, 157lbs (71kg) - and sometimes find myself in-between sizes with US/American brands (Arcteryx) where I'm a solid "Smedium" in some of their lines. 

In terms of a starting point, I've looked at the Mammut Stoney online and it seems to fit the bill, but open to any options really.

Looking for ski shell recommendations

 Pocket to put your goggles or gloves if they're wet and help dry them out. You could probably even put your skins in there if you're a backcountry skier or split boarder. Then you get one zippered pocket right here to put your valuables. Oh and that zippered pocket there is also a leash for your keys so you don't get lost

 And then you have your little stash pocket here for your chapstick or season pass or what have you. And there are two more pockets inside and I'll show you in a second. Of noting the hand pockets are lower because it's a resort resort-based jacket. So if you're wearing a backpack, backpack straps, the hip strap would absolutely hit here

 It's about 150 denier I believe. It's very thick material. It has a Gore-Tex two-layer waterproof membrane built into it. So this is not a three-layer so this would be good for resort riding or just durable construction

 So this is going to be a workhorse jacket and as I mentioned it is helmet compatible and it's adjustable. The fit is spot on. I've got a 36-37 inch length on dress shirts. It fits great so of course you have adjustable cuffs

It's insulated with 100 grams of fill in your body and 60 grams of fill in the sleeves so you get that warmth where you need it. You have a three-point adjustable hood, two draw cords on the side

 You also have the zippered pass pocket right here on your sleeve. So if you have a mountain resort that just uses the passes where you just kind of need to put it close to the turnstile, you can put it right there, hit that turnstile, and you're going on the lift.
