Outstanding jacket. Much warmer than I predicted. I bought a large and I'm 5'11 190 lbs, chest 44 waist 35 sleeves 34.5

Fits great w room for layers

But this is too bulky in my opinion as I don't love wearing two jackets around town (different when I'm in the back country). \-I have a Fission SV which is super warm (almost too warm for most winter days here - I use it when temps dip below -15C). May be too hot of a jacket for most days.

 And no, it's not just a glorified poncho, the breathability and weight are key when you're on a long trip. My Alpha SV is comfortable in any weather ranging from summer rain and wind to a snow storm well below zero, and all activities ranging from a walk to cycling to mountain climbing above 15000 ft.

Something like the Sabre AR or the Beta AR costs between $750-800 CAD for a paper-thin jacket that happens to be waterproof and breathable. Isn’t it just a glorified poncho for 40x the price? I get that I’m kind of exaggerating but I’m failing to understand the practicality of it for its price. 

Like alternatively, the Fission SV is also 800 CAD but is not only waterproof, but also warm af, granted that it’s not as breathable. Why do the shells cost so much? Is there a hidden value that I’m failing to see?

 Further, I’m a big fan of the Velcro cuff adjustments, which easily secure either over my undercuff gloves (the Black Diamond Dirt Bag) or under my gauntlet-style mittens (Arc’teryx’s own Alpha SV mitts).  But for $500, it’s definitely a souped-up option: The design is decidedly fashionable (as we’ve come to expect from Sweden-based Fjallraven), considerably more durable with a 60-denier polyester fabric, and heavier at 1 pound 0.6 ounces.
